Will two or more IIC devices share the same IIC pins on arduino? Answered

HI,All I got 4 IIC soil moiture sensors, could be named A,B,C,D.but my arduino nano only have one set of IIC pins.i want to set IIC soil moisture sensor's chips internal timer to go sleep mode each at diffirent period.so arduino could take correct readings from one sensor at a time.i want to know if the sensor overlapping of same ardiuno IIC pins feasible?my second question is suppose it is feasible.how can arduino to know which sensor is being taking readings.i mean arduino may think signal taken from the IIC pins several time in a day may mean only one IIC device is being connected.it could not distinguish which is A or B,etc..I wanted it to distinguish which is which. But i don't know how. gada888

How do I share 2 printers on a single ethernet jack that is hooked to an internal network?

Every office in my building has an ethernet jack. One room houses a HP laser printer that is currently utilizing the single jack. I'm putting a wide format color inkjet printer in the same room. I need to connect it to the internal network for others to share this printer as they do with the laser printer. There is a hub located in another part of the building that connects this intranet. To add my new printer is it a matter of plugging another hub into the existing jack and then plugging the two printers into the hub or is there another way? Thanks, Chas.

Can I network my desktop computer with my laptop and share internet from a USB Aircard?

I have a desktop computer that is running XP and a laptop running Vista, I purchased a wireless card for the desktop and a wireless router, both are Linksys N capable, a wireless printer, and internet is provided thru a USB Aircard. What is the best way to network these devices where I can use the printer and the internet on both computers? I know a little, but am still very new to networking. Is it even possible with a USB aircard?

How to solve: Pinterest is rejecting my ability to pin an instructable?

I've tried twice now just within the last half hour to pin a link to an instructable; one for microwave omelette in a cup and the other tandoori chicken. Both attempts were rejected due to the website containing inappropriate content.I've pinned many Instructables before, never have I had this issue. Please, can someone tell me how to solve this issue? Otherwise, I shall find another outlet for sharing, remove my data from Pinterest, and do everything I can to expose them.Thank you.First, they came for my facebook, so I deleted my account. Then they came for my Pinterest, and I suspended my activity. Then they came for my Instructables, and no one was left to defend me.

sharing draft Instructable?

Hey - I "shared" a draft Instructable for others to review and comment.  But how would they reply to me with any revisions/approvals?  I tested by sending email to self but that did not appear to work well.  Suggestions welcomed.

Pinterest Share Option

Would it be possible to add a Pinterest share button?  I'm creating a board that aggregates a lot of the costume walkthroughs that I've favorite here in Instructables, and it would be great to easily get it to Pinterest.  Right now I'm having to copy and paste the link and do everything manually.  It would increase traffic to the Instructables site and really help Instructables users.  Thanks!

Share Your Animations

I've been using Corel R.A.V.E for simple animations. I am an amateur at it, but I got simple creations out of it. But I wonder if there are other types of animation creators out there. I would like to see from the Instructables community some animations they made too. Post them here for everyone to see!

What are the motives of making and sharing documentation of DIY Projects?

Hi, I am building a documentation system specially for fab labs. I have noticed that some fab lab users do not wish to make documentation of their projects because they think "there is no reader". Guys, Can you share your thoughts on why you post instructables here? For personal interest? For wider project viewers? Best, Zhao

What Should I Do With This?

Hi Folks!I would like to propose a new topic, please let me know if it's already hiding somewhere on the site and I've missed it. This might require a whole section to handle all of the possible separate threads, not sure...It's called "What Should I Do With This?"...I have several weird items in my possession that I KNOW have greatness lurking within them, but I'm at a loss about how best to unlock their potential. I'm sure lots of other folks are in the same boat. So here's the idea:We post a photo and/or description of the item, and ask what to do with it. Readers can offer suggestions (hopefully something besides "give it to me!"), advice, etc. Then when/if the advice is taken, we make an instructable, or at least reply to the thread with the results. For example (I'll post pix if I can), I have an ancient external, ~5 lb serial-port CD player in a serious metal housing about a foot long with a power supply built in. What's especially nice is the huge sticker along the side of the silly beast that says "PORTABLE" in huge block letters. It's crying out to be the platform for some device, just not sure what.Another item is a big Fostex 1/2" 8-track reel-to reel with a bad (and I'm told, prohibitively expensive to replace) tape head. So it's got a smooth, quiet & powerful motor (or two), eight analog meters, lots of RCA in & out ports, plus switches, leds, and pulleys for aligning and running the tape. I'm thinking a belt drive for a Van De Graaf, maybe some random dancing needle meters for various projects...See what I mean? I'm sure somebody has some ideas for the bits and pieces I haven't even mentioned, or a better way to re-purpose the entire apparatus without reducing it to it's components.Maybe if somebody was looking for input and got a suggestion that they thought was amazing but outside the realm of possibility for them, they could offer to send the item to the person who made the suggestion (if the recipient paid shipping, of course). But for the most part, I think sharing ideas would be most valuable. What do you think? And, perhaps even more importantly, what should I do with the stuff described above? Thanks!!Mike

Photo sharing (site suggestion)

I did a quick forum search, but didn't find anything that really fit my idea, but I've seen a lot of really cool things on instructables, followed some step by step or took the idea and customized a few steps or two, but wouldn't it be nice to have a section to share your own photos of the projects you've started by way of inspiration of an instructable (like Think Geek's "customer action shots")? Show what people have done with an instructable, how they modified/improved upon/or spectacularly failed (but got a great photo!) following an instructable. So call this a site suggestion: a column on each instructable possibly parallel to the comments where people can post their results. Especially with the many great creative minds here.

Sharing Pro Membership With Spouse

Is it possible to share my pro account with my spouse, where she has her own saved instructables and log in?   For example, at our greeting card website, American Greetings, I can add my spouse and my son (up to 5 household members) to my account with their own login and calendar reminders.  With Netflix, we can add each member of the family and we each have our own cue for things we want to watch.    If we cannot do this at this time, I would like to recommend this as a future feature to add.  My wife and I both enjoy Instructables, but it's silly to pay for 2 accounts when we are sitting together anyway.  The ideal situation would be what American Greetings offers, the ability to add my household members under a master account that allows them their own individual login and storage folder.  If you create this where any purchases are tied to the master account, it will help reduce fraud as people won't want others using their credit card.    I've never asked a question here.  I sure hope I get a notice when this is answered and where to find the answer!  Thanks for your time and consideration.

Bill Gates shared an Instructable!

Congratulations to Instructables author gallactronics for catching the attention of Bill Gates!  He posted the Solar Scare Mosquito Instructable to his facebook page!  Mosquitos are a nuisance, and they also carry deadly diseases that kill over a million people every year.  The device works by creating ripples on the surface of still water to prevent mosquitos from laying eggs, and killing larvae that has already hatched.   Go check it out and leave a comment, or build one yourself!

Fun Halloween pics to share.

A few Halloween pics from this year..The image note making function isn't working, so I'll just explain here..1: A spooky spread on a bloodsoaked (99cent) tablecloth2: Haunted Gingerbread house. I hate it when people say these things are 'too pretty to eat'.. That's what we made it for!!3: Crunchy Cats! Tortillas cut out with cookie cutters, spread with sunflower oil and crisped in an oven.. Dip in a selection of goopy dips, and enjoy! (These felines are sooooo addicting!)4: Spooky Orange flavoured cupcakes!! Oops, I took the photo after I ate one. whoops.5: Witch's Broom PB Cookies with pretzel broomsticks. The salt and sweet flavours together are divine.6: The ice Queen and the Monkey. We should have taken photos for an indestructible on that hair and makeup. It was great!7: My wife's ice queen makeup close up8: "Phantom of the Paradise".. No helmet pics just yet.. They're at work.9: Phantom and Monkey10 & 11: Two Shots of a Mr. Tumnus costume I made for my friend Dave. It's been a fun Halloween. I have tons more fun photos!!

Social Media Suggestion

I would love a button that would enable you to easily share a contest win on social media. Yes, I can type one up and post it, but share buttons are so nice in the way that they compose a simple message for you and provide an image. It would be another opportunity for Instructables to use social media to advertise contests and sponsors. The message could be something like "I just won some great prizes from ____ in the ____ contest on Instructables." It would also be an opportunity for us to thank and share some victory with our friends that support us.

I have a question about how to organize what I have been doing for the past 8 months. . .

Many of you know I am, part time, mentoring and teaching science to a young lady with Asperger's syndrome.  Partly because I have so much fun with them, and partly from just forgetting, I tend to not use my camera nor camcorder much if at all.  Aside from that, I am NOT sure how to present/organize it all.   Each "session" contains between 5 and 30  different "experiments" some as simple as comparing a rubber ball rolling down an incline to a paper tube doing the same thing up to the making and use of lab equipment. The subject matter is diverse, from physics to chemistry to astronomy. I would appreciate any adive.   Thank you.

Can usb ports share a ground?

Im converting an old printer (25 pin) switchbox into a switchbox that will be used for my monitor, speakers, keyboard, mouse and two computers. The problem is that the monitor has 15 pins, the speaker has 3 pins, and the two usb ports have 4 pins each meaning that I would need 26 pins rather that 25. I could just solder the left and right speaker pins together and make those two 1 pin, but i would rather not have to do that. My question is can two usb ports share a ground pin, meaning that it would only need 7 pins rather than 8.

Share your websites for free samples

A while back I was doing an electronics project and needed some components. I found that you can get free samples of components from some companys if you ask nicely. There are some good instructables on that that I will link below. I am now trying to experiment with different metals and am trying to find some websites that will give out free samples. But please put all the good websites for samples here so that anyone can find them if they have a project they want to do. The website I have found so far but I have not ordered from them yet: http://www.garrisonminerals.com/ Some of the instuctables i found: https://www.instructables.com/id/How-To-Get-FREE-Electronic-parts/ https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Get-Free-Electronic-Samples/

Have Any Good Stories to Share?

Got any interesting experiences you'd like to share? Scary? Happy? You get my point, right? Kind of like these:https://www.instructables.com/forum/Crazy-things-youve-done/https://www.instructables.com/forum/Driving-Stories/https://www.instructables.com/forum/Ever-saved-a-guys-life/Here's a scary experience I've had:. Some friends and I were bored so we took a walk to the fire station. We brought along some markers and cardboard and decided to kill time with some harmless Hijinks. We held up signs that said "Free Lemonade" with an arrow pointing in a random direction. People honked their car's horn or waved, it was all good and fun (We were in fifth grade BTW). About fifteen minutes in I hear screeching and my friend yells "RUN!". Not knowing what was happening, I look behind me and see a huge cloud of white smoke. We ditched the signs and booked it out of there. For a few seconds I didn't know what we were running from, but I could tell by the look on my friend's face it was bad. When I asked him later, he said that the guy driving the car looked pissed. He said the smoke was from the car pulling a hard U turn and accelerating towards us. We knew the car was chasing us so we ran into the bushes by the driveway of a cop's house. We heard a car coming up the driveway a few feet from us, and got really freaked out. We saw that it (thankfully) was the cop's patroll car. We ran up to him and told him about the car. He said he saw the smoke and called it in on the radio.
