Xbox 360 Keeps Shocking Me, New Mouse Pad Is Making Cursor Twitchy

Whenever I touch my Xbox 360 after playing it for a while, it shocks me. It's really fucking annoying. It hurts too. It's made my finger go numb at the tip a couple times. I put a piece of a static cling fridge calender over the drive eject button, and that works most of the time, but any time my finger is a little bit off the piece of plastic and touches the Xbox, it shocks me. It gets me if I touch a thumb drive I've had in there a while too. I think it might have something to do with me not being grounded to the console via a controller wire, because my controllers are wireless, unlike my GameCube ones, which I would never (or rarely maybe, I dunno) get shocked from. I have another problem too, I have this mouse pad with a wrist rest, but the mouse pad part of it is fabric on top, and always catches hairs and dirt and stuff, so I cut it off. I have the wrist rest taped to my keyboard tray now where it would normally be, but I'm using a Dell mouse pad that came with my computer. The problem is, ever since I've started using it (yesterday) my cursor has been twitching, anywhere from a few centimeters to going all the way to the edge of the screen. This happens constantly, probably once a minute. This is also driving me crazy. I've heard that having a mouse pad with colours and stuff like that all over it can make optical mice twitch. The one I'm using now is just different shades of grey, I don't think it should be this bad.

shock of a 9volt battery

Have you ever put a 9volt battery on your tongue? You will get a shock, or a charge on your tongue. How come if you put it on your finger or arm, you can not feel the same charge? How can I get that charge to be felt on your finger?

How to administer a tiny painful (but safe) electric shock...

I have no electronic's experience, but I need to develop a tiny device that can administer an electric shock for just like 1 sec that is strong enough to hurt, but is safe.  And it has to be no larger in diameter than a US quarter coin, and no thicker than maybe the face of a watch.

device that applies braking force proportional to speed?

Hi, I'm helping a team of students make a brake-assist device for a two-wheeled walker.  We were wondering if there are mechanical brakes out there that apply a force proportional to the speed.  A circular damper, is how we would describe it, I think.  Or something like a gas shock (the things on screen doors and car trunks) but with a circular motion rather than a linear stroke.  Anyone have any ideas?  Anything that's commercially available, small, and somewhat inexpensive is fair game.  Bonus points for things that can be made by hand..  Thanks!

sustained mild shsock device for artshow

Hey guys I'm hoping to fins some help. I'm doing an art installation piece that is hands on. for one of the pieces i would like it when it is held to create a tingling sensation similar to that of holding a 9v battery to your tongue only in the hand of the participant. i don't want it to be painful, just tingly. i was planning on painting the object with conductive paint into halves so when it is held it would complete the circuit. i would like it to be sustained until they put the piece back down. is something like this possible and if so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thank you again for any help

Can it be made? electro-stim

I am wanting to make a special gift for my man this valentines day.Is it possible to make one of these with things lying around the house, or maybe a local store? This is a device that I can put on my mans "man-hood" and it will send electric waves through it.You can see it here:a ---FRIENDLY--- link here:“Electro sex is a method of sexual stimulation involving the use of low voltage electronic signals to stimulate the nerves in the sexual organs into triggering pleasure and orgasmic response. Utilizing electronic signals to duplicate and increase normal sexual stimulation can have quite a profound effect on the sexual arousal of an individual or individuals. The nerves can be triggered in a way that never occurs, even in the best "normal" sex, or with friction or mechanical vibrators. Nerves are electrical triggers, and by applying electronic signals to activate them, the feelings are incredible.” When you realize that ALL impulses in the human body are electric impulses... it's obvious that you can stimulate an orgasm using the right equipment and tools.

Is it possible to feel a zap from a watch battery and LED?

Here's the setup: one LED with its leads tied by conductive threads to magnets which stick to a watch battery, in contact with skin for multiple hours.  I had somebody say that this somehow was zapping them (enough to leave a rash).  Is this possible?  I've handled lit LEDs with watch batteries a lot (even underwater) and never felt a thing!  No spark, no zap, no shock, nothing.  So have I just been lucky?  Can this setup actually zap you enough to feel it, or even irritate your skin?  Or was the zapping perhaps an allergic reaction to the nickel magnets which was mistaken for being sparked?

Cameras make high voltage?

I heard disposable cameras use high voltage for the flash. so if you were to take out the capacitor from 2 and plug the lead to the flash from 1 camera into the battery holder for another you could keep putting them together to get higher and higher voltages right?

Timed Shocker, or Shocker w/ a Timer

I was wondering if anyone knows how to build a shocker hooked up to a timer? Or at least how to hook up a timer to a shocker? If anyone can show me how to hook a good, strong shocker to an electronic timer, i'd be grateful. I already have a timer and i can post pics of it's insides if anyone wants a look, it's the one i plan to use. I was hoping to rig it up to the world's smallest shocker. Thanks in advance.

Hydraulic Shocks - how to get/install/use them...?

I recently obtained a nice massage table for my wife (she does massage, studying to be an aesthetician too)... and it has a very nice feature; beneath the head-end of the table, there is a little lever, when depressed it raises from flat to about 60 degrees; and stops at any point in between as soon as the lever is released. And it stays there, even with most of my weight (250 pounds or so) pushing down against it. As soon as you press the little lever, it can be moved up or down again. I looked it over, and much of the mechanism is hidden, but I can see it relies on a (deceptively small) gas shock or hydraulic shock, like what is used in many car trunks and 3rd/5th door lifts for SUVs and hatchbacks. Though, obviously much stronger than those devices. So my question is, where can I find one of these things, and how does it come to be controlled by a little lever so that it can stop at any given point and bear a load without moving until the level is once again depressed? The main reason for my query is that the massage table is too narrow by far, and I plan on making a bigger one for her, with a few nicer features; but that is one I have no idea how to duplicate at the moment! Thanks!

sheet foam shock absorber

Im making a trailer for a longboard (skateboard) with a speaker setup on it weighing around 20kg, the speaker im using for it is a fairly durable plastic mobile DJ style speaker but even so i'll be pulling it around over potentially rough tarmac/asphalt surfaces on a trailer made from skateboard parts so could a couple of small sections of foam sheet sandwiched between skateboard truck baseplates and the deck offer adequate shock absorption? i have squishy 1.5cm thick yoga mat foam or firmer 1cm thick sound proofing foam to choose from...

World's Smallest Electronic Shocker?

A few days ago, I had built two really tiny electronic shockers, they are smaller than a penny... The shockers I had built, they operate on a 1.5v battery and gives out about 450v at short circuit of 18mA.So, what I am really asking is "is this the world's smallest electronic shocker?", I had done some research about if they are any electronic shockers that is smaller than mine, but I did not find any results... So I am asking you if you know any electronic shockers that is smaller than mine...Also I gave my shocker some more input voltage to see what happens... When I gave it 3v, it gave out about 900v (wow!). And at 4.5v input, it gave out about 1200v (BIGGER WOW!!!). I want to know how much voltage it gives out if I had given it 9v power, but I cannot risk doing that, because I might break my multimeter (it can measure maximum 1000v), I will have to build my self a high voltage probe...Heres the instructable... How to build the World's Smallest Electronic Shocker!!!

phototransistor for high voltage

Before the begining sorry for bad english I want to make laser tag with electric shock when hits This is circuit of taser what I want to do is remove the switch and replace with wire so that the taser can charge automatically then I want to put a phototransistor(that react to red laser) to the poles(where you get shocked when touch them together) but because the both poles are attached to bodies the taser can't be charged so I tried to block one side of pole with phototransistor but when I touch the two poles phototransistor burned(?) and I got shocked in this case what can i do?

Shocks w/ electro magnetics

Hello Every one this is my first post, and since I am a full time student, full time para legal and full time parent, I'm just going to throw this idea out there and let others build on it. Its just an idea that I have had for years. Concerning electro magnets and shock absorber for your average car. Let me know your thoughts. My main thought is that the magnets would be working with reverse polarity add in electricity and you have a pretty good repelling force for going over those bad Jersey roads. Let me know your thoughts.

annoying static discharge problem

I really like these liquid vitamins, but every other bottle I get gives me a long series of random painful electric shocks when I try to open it! You can't hear it, but in the video when I get near the bottle with the probe a snapping sound can be heard. The shocks are seemingly random and some went as high as 500mv. I didn't catch the first shock, which was the worst, from the first time I tried to open the bottle. I tried grounding the bottle, but nothing seems to help. Thanks for any suggestions

An Alarm Clock Idea - No Lights, No Sound

I'm a pretty deep sleeper, and I don't wake up very fast in the mornings, which is bad since I ride the school bus to school. I set my alarm clock, with a high volume, but it still doesn't wake me very good. I've thought of trying to make an alarm that flashes a strobe light, something like a deaf person might use, but didn't think it would work very good. So, my idea now is to think of a way to make an alarm clock that gives pulsating shocks when it goes off. I have absolutely (well, 99%) no idea how to connect it up, nor how to produce the shocks. I'm thinking a shock with high voltage, but low current, like static electricity. I figure that should wake me. Do y'all have any ideas, or better suggestions? Also, do you think that the shocks (if usable) would cause any dangerous effects on my health? Thanks!

Making the battery hand gun safer?

Okay, so I guess we can all agree that the battery hand gun is dangerous, so this is my plan to make it safer. I'm not sure if it would work though.Any ideas? I would put the pipe #1(original) into a bigger pipe (#2) and then fill the gap with clay to act as a "shock absorber".In theory, the clay would absorb some of the shock, and IF it did explode, the smaller pipe will fly out of the bigger pipe instead.Therfore, it would reduce the chance of the pipe exploding in your hand. What do you think?

Micro Invisible fence transmitter

I am looking to have a Micro transmitter for an invisible fence made. This will need to trigger the invisible fence shock collar when it gets within 2 feet. I have a dog with a shock collar that attacks a smaller, older dog in the house. I want a transmitter that will fit on the collar of the smaller dog, run off of batteries with a LED to show it is powered on. I have an extra receiver to test with, and i can send photos of the transmitter and what information i have. Willing to pay COD for delivery.

new electronic project

Have just started a new electronics project that i have been thinking about for ages. this is the basic idea, i am going to give someone a christmas "present" at a party which will , when i press a remote button, deliver a small 450 volt shock( very low ampage, i've made shockers before). i am disassembling a remote control car and will fit either a relay connected to the shocker circuit or perhaps the shock circuit itself to where the motor was. assuming all works correctly it should be very funny, i will be working on an instructable of how it was done. thanks for reading, tell me what you think.

How to make a circuit with an IR receiver turn on with an infrared remote control?

We are currently having a Research project in our English class and we thought it would be nice if we tried a research regarding electronics because me and my parter are both interested in electronics.  However, we are both beginners when it comes to electronics. Is there anyone who can help us with the following: A. Building an IR remote that can send a signal to the IR receiver to momentarily turn on (kinda like a push switch) B. An IR receiver that will be connected to a circuit to allow it to momentarily turn on or off based on the actions of the IR remote C. A fabric/system that could give a sudden "shock" to the holder when turned on kinda like the gag shock pens. D. Schematics for the IR receiver circuit I don't even know if this project is plausible but if anyone could help, we extend our deepest gratitude :)

Should I post?

This is a new gun I made after finding about Ipod Killer's "innovative" trigger system. It uses Mepain's ram and part of the Burito Master's clip for his scar gun. The clip pushes up the ammo by itself, so all ya gotta do is pull the ram then trigger. It also uses a spring to absorb the shock of the ram.

conductive paint

Do any of you have experience with conductive paint? does it have much resistance?  i'm thinkin of heating car windsheild in much the same way that the rear window is done.  i've cracked 1 or windsheilds while defrosting. seems thermal shock from heat vents on dash are too much. just got a new windsheild.  don't want to break it.

Broke a torx screwdriver in a recessed hex bolts. Removal?

So I was tinkering with the rear suspension of my new GT LTS bike, where I'm going to fit a monster 8.5x2.5 Fox RP shock in place of the standard 5.25x1 shock. When tightening it back up, I learned the meaning of "the right tool for the right job" I used a torx driver instead of a hex key, and it snapped inside. At this point, I don't know how to handle it. I've tried all unobtrusive methods that I know of. Melted hot glue, magnet, banging on the opposite side with a center punch and hammer.. nothing freed it. Problem is it's twisted, and that's holding it in. I figured i'd ask the pros for advice. Picture attached. I'm thinking I may have to drill it out, tap it with a left hand thread, screw that in, and screw the messed up bolt out. Then my only problem is finding a replacement.

DIY Shotgun Microphone (with wind shield & in-built shock mount)

Hey everyone, this is my first post here on Instructables, and I'm here to stay! My name's Matt (hi!), and I have a YouTube account called DIYPerks (like my username). On it I post DIY videos... which is besides the point, so on to what I want to show you... A while ago I made my own shotgun microphone for my camcorder. It's pretty cheap to build at £12, and sounds great because it's got its own wind cover and in-built shock mount! It's very directional too! I've had several requests about how I built it, so I made this detailed overview video so people will be able to build their own. I'm posting it here as I think some of you will find it very interesting. :) Please take a look at tell me what you think!

Does it violate the terms of use of instructables?
