Staying signed in?

Whenever I come to this site, I always have to sign in, even when I click the "remember me", this is not recent, been going on for 3 or 4 months. I am using windows 7 with FireFox and am accepting cookies. It's just plain annoying to have to sign in every time, even if I don't shutdown my computer it still forgets me. I like to click on an instructable and have to set to show all steps on one page, and when I sign in it does just that, but when I open a new tab to have another instructible open, it forgets me again. Any fix to this? It also does it on the Seamoney and Chrome browsers on my laptop.

Neon sign transformer

Hello everybody, I am looking for a Neon Sign Transformer (NST), I can not find any in my local area and cannot use ebay because I am 15 years old. So if anybody has an old used NST that you don't want anymore and willing to give it away or can obtain a NST for free from your local dump or neon sign stores, I would really want it! I will pay the postage bill. If you are curious why I wanted a NST, I want to build a Tesla Coil, I had built other Tesla Coils using other power supplies but I always have bad luck with them, they don't work properly so that is why I wanted a NST.I really don't mind how much voltage the NST gives out, like between 6Kv to 15Kv, but I do mind how much current it gives out, I only want a transformer that can give give out current between 20mA to 40mA, because of this, I don't want to build a big Tesla Coil yet...So, if you have a NST that you are willing to give away, please respond to me ONLY if you live in UK (United Kingdom), because I cannot afford such high postage (shipping) bill from other countries like America..

won't stay signed in

It doesn't happen every time but enough to be aggravating, I go to view an instructable from the main page and get signed out so I can't see all steps on one page or comment. Clicking sign in doesn't do anything but when I return to the man page I'm signed in ! Some times like today it's an instructable I've viewed before and commented on and want to reply to a reply. This has been occurring since the last update or whatever was done and happens on different computers and access sites (home, coffee shop, daughters house etc)

Hacked Road Signs

This may be one of the greatest pranks I've heard of in a while. We see them everywhere these days, digital signs by the side of the road telling us about road conditions or that we should prepare to stop or that our local bridge might be closed next Tuesday from noon to midnight. And if you're like me, you've always just assumed that the message on the signs is legitimate and properly authorized. But what if the sign, instead of reading something like "Ice Ahead" was flashing the message, "Zombies Ahead"?It's true that in San Francisco or a few other cities, such a sign could be put up by local transportation officials to warn people of an impending zombie march, but even in those places, the more likely explanation would be that the sign was hacked. And if you're in the Boston area and saw signs hacked in this way, there's always a decent chance it was done by students from MIT.According to the blog i-hacked.com, some programmable road signs are easily messed with, largely because they often have unlocked instrument panels, a text-entry system that is easily accessed, and are often protected with uncomplicated, or unchanged default passwords. That's some of the text from an article on cnet, here. I love what the hackers did with the text. :-)

A Third Math Sign - not just positive or negative

I was thinking about a random thing the other week. We have positive and negative signs in widespread and ubiquitous use in mathematics. What if we had a third sign? The number line would look like the one in the picture. It's not even a line anymore. Since I am absolutely dumbfounded as to how even the basic operations would play out in this type of system (although I have a rough idea for addition and subtraction), and nor do I know what the possible applications for a redundant sign could be, I'm just putting this here. Got ideas? Fire away.

eco-friendly exit signs?

Hey, I´ve been reading a lot about green technology lately and while doing it I came across something that really surprised me - nuclear powered exit signs. I had already known that both cars and trains, for example, can be nuclear powered but I didn´t realize that an exit sign can use no electricity, even when it´s self luminous. Apparently it doesn´t require any wiring or batteries so I started thinking how I could make an exit sign myself. Btw, does anybody know anything about the regulations as far as the material used in fire exit signs is concerned?

CNC plasma cut signs

My freind is letting me use his CNC plasma cutter & so I thought It would be nice of me to offer to every here on intructibles to make them a plasma cut sign like in the pictures. right now the price of 1/4'' steel is about $2.50 per square foot where I live. The CNC plasma cutter makes really nice looking signs and can even cut out pictures, I can take a regular picture of a deer, an elk, a bear and cut it out. just look at the pictures below to get an idea. If you want me to cut you a sign out you can post a comment below and we will talk and fine tune the cost down. I prefer money orders, they are much safer for all of us. just not as quick. Thanks, Daniel

Solar Lighting Needed for Highway Sign

We live in the country, and it would cost thousands for the electric company to bring power to light our highway sign.  The sign is two 8'x8' signs shaped in a "V" so both directions of traffic can see the sign.  I have tried garden solar lights, but they are not bright enough on the ground shining up.  I've tried connecting garden/walkway solar lights to the top of the sign (4 of them on each sign), but they are rather weak, and the battery is not big enough.  Can anyone come up with larger LED lights and perhaps how to daisy chain the smaller batteries together.  Actually I've thought of just getting a larger battery, controller, etc.  But I would still need help designing/finding LED lights that would work.

Using a laser printer on sign vinyl?

Question:  I've gotten a nice sized scrap of  sign vinyl from where I work at, and I'm wanting to cut out a replacement logo for the side of my pedal-start moped.  I can do it by hand okay if I could transfer the design onto the sign vinyl and follow it.  (because, I don't have access to a vinyl cutter or a Cricut type machine.) Can you do the toner transfer method from a transparency made in a laser printer, or would that melt the vinyl?  Or, if cut to proper size, could you print directly onto the vinyl, if the printer's paper path were essentially straight?  It wouldn't have to be permanent, just on the surface to follow it.  This stuff is pretty opaque, so a light table won't work either. Thanks for your time!

Battery Powered Programmable LED Sign

Hi all! I am working on building a sign to hold up at a concert I'm going to in a couple months, and I really want it to stand out!  To preface: I am very technically inclined but know very little about powering LEDs (have only done basic diode and battery combos) and have zero programming experience, but am a quick study.  What I am looking for is a solution that can be mounted on a 20x30" corrugated plastic panel, and run via battery pack with enough juice to last a 4+ hour concert. I know that one can easily buy battery powered LED strips, which I'd mount in an array on the plastic, but I'd really like to ideally be able to control the lights colors and show different bits of text, possibly via an iOS app.  I know this might sound quite ambitious but as my dad always likes to say, go big or go home! Anyone have any ideas where I can get started? Thanks in advance :)

The '+' signs disappear in my image tags after saving and closing the page

Hi, When I add an image tag (or whatever they are called) on my images with some text on it, the site does not always save those as it should. I especially experienced this problem when having the '+' sign in the text. After saving, closing and reopening my browser, the + sign is replaced by a space. I'm using Firefox 24.0 on Ubuntu 12.04 with cinnamon. Is there anything i can do to use the + sign in my images? Thanks in advance.

Two questions: 1. How do I calculate a "sign" with Arduino? 2. I have difficulties with fractions. Answered

Since these are two questions in one go, I'll be rewarding a patch!!! Question 1 How do I calculate the sign of a number? e.g. Sign(-3)=-1  e.g. Sign(5)=1 I could use an equation like: (-3)/(sqrt((-3)*(-3))) but that would be time consuming. Is there a function avalable? Question 2 Consider the following program int Xcoord[]={12,17,23,25,22,29,33,32,35}; int Ycoord[]={15,13,16,20,23,26,22,19,15}; int xCount = 9;  int x; int y; int a; int xx; int yy; float SlopePower2; void setup() {    Serial.begin(9600);    } void loop() {     for (int a = 1; a < xCount; a++)      {   int xx=Xcoord[a-1];   int yy=Ycoord[a-1];   int x=Xcoord[a];   int y=Ycoord[a]; SlopePower2=((y-yy)/(x-xx))*((y-yy)/(x-xx)) ;   Serial.print("SlopePower2 =");   Serial.print(SlopePower2);   Serial.println();   delay(5000);     } }  //end An Array is used to read numbers (this works fine). Then the power of the slope is calculated. Sometimes this number is larger than 1 (then the calculation works fine). However when the calculated value is between 0 and 1 ( a fraction thus)  it is rounded off to either 0 or 1 (although I have assigned it as a "float"). Why?

LED advice

So, i'm a pretty avid fan of our local roller derby team (HKRG BABY!), and i belong to a group of super fans who focus on doing a lot of weird crafting and costuming and other such insantiy for the bouts. so, i'm wanting to make some pretty fancy signs for next year's derby season that will  light up. i've got some plans to use some EL wire/tape and the accompanying equipment but i've also got some other sign plans that would probably be cheaper/easier to make using LEDs instead. so, basic premise is to have a sign that would be able to light up some cut out letters separately and sequentially. i know how to make the sign itself so that's not the issue, what i need is a method to cheaply and easily make the letters light up in sequence. so it's a 3 letter sequence (let's use D O A as an example) that progresses at the normal speed that you would imagine a large group of people chanting a 3 letter call sign to go. so the D would lights up for a second or two, one-two second pause, O lights up for a second or two, one or two second pause, then the A for a second or two, lather rinse repeat. i'm imagining that each group of LEDs for each letter would be wired in series, then each group would be wired to whatever circuit would be needed to make the lights cycle. i'm not sure exactly how many leds will be needed per letter, but maybe between 10-20 of them per segment? i'm going to have several of these types of signs (all 3 syllable chants) so i'd like it to be something that's easy to repeat and not terribly expensive (i'm a derby nut, but there is a line where cost kind of gets stupid)

Flashing LED project?

I have undertaken a sign project for my work that involves LEDs flashing in sequence. We are a Fire and EMS education program and want something that is going to grab attention. At first the project was supposed to be just solid burning lights but has been changed. I'm guessing they want something like the old style movie poster chasing lights or alternating flash between 3 sets of LEDs. It's a little more advanced than I had planned and don't know where to start as far as components go. I've already got the switch they want me to use,  it is very similar to a toggle switch but has a safety cap. My sign is a little larger than a standard letter size paper and I'm thinking 10 or 15 lights across the top should look pretty cool. Any suggestions on where to start or what I need? Thanks, Matt   This is the switch: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062493   The photo I've included gives you an idea of what it is we do.

A question on instructables....

I was wondering, an instructable can be how to do or learn pretty much anything, right ? It doesn't necessarily need to be about building something concrete? I was watching one of the videos I have a fondness for (because of my involvement with "the subject") and thought of something I might be able to put together for my first instructable, before my wife gets around to cleaning her junk away from my work area.
