Simpsons Mosaic Table

This homemade mosaic table take Simpsons characters and takes it in a very unofficial direction. Milhouse drinking wine and Lisa getting ready to chug Duff while both Moe and Burns malevolently look on? Excellent.Craftster via Craft

Simpsons Map

The Simpsons are awesomely hilarious. I remember when my parents thought it was too vulgar for my child mind to handle. And now it's a very tasteful and often smart cartoon. Some dude took the time to collect all the different locations from every episode and created this completely insane map.I guess if you ever plan to visit The Simpsons you'll know how to get around.Oh, if you want to brush up on your episodes, here's where you can watch them online for free, legally:The Simpsons Episodes.

Help with Simpson's Hallowe'en Costume.

I've got an idea for a Hallowe'en costume this year and I'm a little stuck on the mask.  The clothes are no problem. Here's the issue: I need to make a mask of Professor Frink from the Simpson's  The reason it has to be a mask is that I wear the costume to work and I have to be available in a short time for actual work, and the work I do doesn't lend itself to weird yellow makeup. I've done costumes before: Marvin the Martian, Beaker, Bender, The Black Knight, etc.  For some reason I'm flummoxed by Frink's head. Any ideas?

Star on BoingBoing TV!

Our good friend Star Simpson finally explains her side of the Logan airport debacle in an interview with Xeni Jardin of BoingBoing TV. She decided to talk to Xeni because BoingBoing was the only news source to get it right the first time. Check it out, and see for yourself!Edit: don't forget to check out Star's Breadboard Sweatshirt Instructable. And yes, the interview is in the control tower of the old Instructables HQ.

what is this component? Answered

I opened up this toy (Homer Simpson Talking Eight Ball) to circuit bend it, and found something odd. The  board has a strange-looking brass (?) ball soldered to it. It's attached to the board with three prongs and is soldered to the board at one point, soldered to the wire for the play button. It is labeled S1.

Star (stasterisk) arrested at Logan airport for bomb scare

A 19 year old female M.I.T. student was arrested at gunpoint after entering Boston's Logan International Airport with what authorities claim was "a fake bomb" strapped to her chest, according to wire reports. The device is said to have been some kind of computer circuit board with Play-Doh and wires attached, strapped over her black hoodie. Link to AP report on her arrest. The young woman is identified as Star Simpson, shown in the image above left, and she is a sophomore from Hawaii. She has a user account on Instructables. Boingboing story Star's Instructables pageUPDATE: CNN videoUPDATE 2: Pic addedUPDATE 3: Canida's response added to BoingBoing, and a call for geek-protection sticker designs!UPDATE 4: Simpson pleaded not guilty to a charge of possessing a hoax device at her arraignment in East Boston District Court Friday afternoon. She was released on $750 bail and ordered to stay away from Logan Airport.Simpson could face up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine. WBZTV storyUPDATE 5: We had a quick chat with Star! She's doing fine, and after dodging packs of media she's finally getting back to work on her problem sets. There's still school, you know. Of course, they've impounded her sweatshirt, so she's got to do something else for the career fair.

OK, Let's clarify some things....

1) OK, I will clarify this after it confused me for so much time. For those of you who didn't know,Eric and canida are marriedI tell you this to help you avoid all the stuff I went through. I saw a lot of things that pointed towards this fact, but nothing actually confirmed it. I didn't have the courage to ask here, if I was wrong, the embarrassment would be too much.... So there. What happened to Stasterisk?Star Simpson is a girl that strapped a fake bomb to her and tried to go through an airport. It was a circuit board with play doh attached to it in certain spots. She is currently a student at MIT, which explains the website url. So if you want to get more of an idea of who this Star Simpson girl is. Check outthis pageAnd this ibles postMy name is BryantAlthough, I think Gorillazmiko made that quite clear. Get over it.

Giant sprinkles?

I making a giant Doughnut for my friend's Birthday; I'm going for something Homer Simpson would eat. I have everything figured out, but I really want some giant Sprinkles for it; ideally they would about one inch long with proportional width. People have already suggested Mike&Ikes and that does not appeal to me. Ideally they would be flavorless sugar, just like real sprinkles, but don't let that hold you back. Thanks!

Foameez - Foam building and packing block

My MIT undergraduate advisor and all-around-mechanical-design-ninja, Alex Slocum, created these foam building blocks/packing material, he calls Foameez. He sent Instructables a box full of them hoping we'd be able to come up with some cool uses. So far we've made Marge Simpson hair and a Fantastic Four Thing-like costume. What would you build with these? If your idea is compelling enough, I'll send you some...

Forum topics that go nowhere

Has anyone noticed some forum topics look like by Grampa Simpson rambling?  They are usually by new members, and I often flag them as spam,  they often look like this....... But less funny We can't bust heads like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to tell 'em stories that don't go anywhere - like the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so, I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. "Give me five bees for a quarter," you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah: the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones. Three wars back we called Sauerkraut "liberty cabbage" and we called liberty cabbage "super slaw" and back then a suitcase was known as a "Swedish lunchbox." Of course, nobody knew that but me. Anyway, long story short... is a phrase whose origins are complicated and rambling.

holiday inflatable - giant floating (indoor) balloon

We have a Gemmy inflatable at work (a giant Homer Simpson -- about 8 feet tall) and we were wondering if we could somehow fill it with helium and float it on the ceiling. We're concerned that it's too permeable (when the fan is not going, it deflates FAST).  One idea was to coat the inside with polyurethane (turning the fan on to blow it throughout the balloon) but that seems like it wouldn't work very well (too patchy), and could make it too heavy. Another option would be to take a bunch of balloons, insert them into the Homer, and then inflate the smaller balloons (and tie them off). Any other thoughts or suggestions?

Can you live without TV?

I've pretty-much given up on TVThere's nothing much on that I need to see.Having internet access is helping, but most of that isn't passive, so it's not really a substitute. Can you live without TV?I usually look at The Simpsons, but if I've seen it before and don't have sufficient interest I turn off. If I'm interested enough I might wait and give up at the next ad'-break.Get used to life without TV and quite literally "you do not know what you're missing", which is mostly not worth watching.?Only today my dad was watching some lame cable car-crash show, which it turned out he'd already seen on Sunday...

I just put this up on the Mythbuster's site......

I just posted the following over there, so hopefully a method can be devised to test this safely: (1999) A US Navy safety publication describes injuries incurred while doing don'ts. One page described the fate of a sailor playing with a multimeter in an unauthorized manner. He was curious about the resistance level of the human body. He had a Simpson 260 multimeter, a small unit powered by a 9-volt battery. That may not seem powerful enough to be dangerous… but it can be deadly in the wrong hands. The sailor took a probe in each hand to measure his bodily resistance from thumb to thumb. But the probes had sharp tips, and in his excitement he pressed his thumbs hard enough against the probes to break the skin. Once the salty conducting fluid known as blood was available, the current from the multimeter traveled right across the sailor's heart, disrupting the electrical regulation of his heartbeat. He died before he could record his Ohms.

Dr. Zoidberg of Futurama Costume! :)

(thank you for the direction into the forums! haha) :D :D :DI didn't even know who Zoidberg was until my boyfriend told me that he was going to be HIM for halloween, right after we met haha. SO, I was wondering how he was going to do it and I had a few ideas...I ordered a Lab Coat from AllHeart.com or something like that, and had it embroidered with "Dr. Zoidberg". For the Claws, he bought a hot glue gun and some felt and I was kinda puzzled as to how to make them .. cute/realistic/wearable, just make sure to have good scissors, stack the felt 2 at a time and wisely cut so that the 2 pieces match up. I used elastic to keep them on his wrist and stuffed them with polyester fill, to make them more functional. For the FACE...lol..we lucked out. Tripped over a bart simpson mask at Target and we ended up making the eyes into the shape of goggles, leaving tabs on the side for elastic attachment to hold them onto his head. The "mouth fingers" were a pair of women's gloves. (I cut the thumb off and hand sewed it shut and then took the part and attached it to ITSELF in the back, behind the mask, also stuffed the fingers a little. We then painted his head with some cream makeup from.. a halloween store ($1.50) and it goes a long way. You can cover the elastic with it too, but be careful not to dye your eyes red unless you are going to go as Zoidberg with PINKEYE. lol.As he would say "bwoo bwoo bwoo bwoo bwoo!"

Useful Batch Commands

Hey guys, I wanted to post a quick forum topic about useful batch commands that are seldom used or not well-known, or maybe just useful tidbits. Note: These do not have to be used, they are just extremely helpful and are just "extra," meaning you could probably find easier-to-understand but not as useful commands. 1. The CHOICE command The reason this command is so cool is that unlike other Y/N menus, when you enter the desired number, you don't have to hit enter, it goes straight to the next screen. You can also program it to execute a command after a set amount of time. Here's how to write it out: choice /c:12345 /t:5,10 if errorlevel 5 goto ha if errorlevel 4 goto joke if errorlevel 3 goto tired if errorlevel 2 goto fried if errorlevel 1 goto chiken To time it, you type /t and then a colon. You write the choice that you want to be timed, e.g. 5, and the amount of time in seconds you want it to wait for seperated by a comma. 2. The Random Variable The reason I deceided to put this up is because it is one of the only if not the only variable that is already programmed into the system. By using it correctly, you can generate a number between 1 and 32767. WHAT?! Of course, you can narrow it down, to, say about 1 and 100. :dim set rnd=%random% if %rnd% GEQ 101 goto dim if %rnd% LEQ 0 goto dim set number=%rnd% So as you can see, %random% is a set variable and generates a random number for you. Please keep in mind that this can take one second, or one eternity (literally) since it doesn't narrow down the choices after finding that a number doesn;t work. So, you may keep on generating 101 forever and never get to 100! 3. The ^| Command. Ever get frustrated because you are making an animation with, for example, stick figures and are getting driven nuts because the minute it gets to a certain part, it exits on you? The reason is probably because you used the | symbol, which is actually knd of like a command by itself. So, if you're doing something like this: echo [0] echo /| echo / The reason it is not working is because you didin't use a ^ before the |. Here's what it should be: echo [0] echo /^| echo / Yes, it looks wierd in the editing stages, but looks much better in the real thing. Just remember, you will have to remember that the ^ will be invisible, so make sure everything else in front of it is like this: echo [0]   [ echo /^|    [ echo /     [ So that the [ or whatever it is is one space ahead from the others. 4. The %TIME:~0,5% Command. What time is it? Oh, it's 3:16:52.29! Ever been frustrated with the TIME command? For one, who ( and when I mean who, I mean the average batcher who doesn't use the TIME command to synchronize seven different computers around the house which I could never hope to do) needs to be that exact? When making a batch alarm clock, for example, the user wouldn't really want to do all of that, would they? So, for those of you who would want to make such a clock, here's an example: @echo off title Alarm Clock :start cls color f0 echo. echo Use 24 hour clock echo. set /p a=Set Alarm: cls echo. echo Alarm set to %a%. :alarm if %time:~0,5% EQU %a% goto alarmset goto alarm :alarmset color fc echo echo echo cls echo. echo It's %time:~0,5%! echo. echo Press 1 to acknowledge. choice /n /c:12 /t:2,1 if errorlevel 2 goto alarmset if errorlevel 1 goto sleep goto alarmset :sleep goto start So there's one example. %TIME:~0,5% sets the time from 3:15:00.00 to just 15:15. This doesn't work just with the TIME command, you can do this with any variable. If I had a variable %x% and it said "crayon" and wanted it to say "cray," I would type in %x:~0,-2%. If I wanted to make %x% say "on," I would type in %x:~-4,0%. 5. The AT Command The AT command is exactly what it appears to be. You tell it AT (time) /every:[day(s) of the week] (command to be executed). So, it I wanted an alarm to go off whenever the Simpsons are on, I'd type AT 19:30 /every:sumtwthfs echo ALARM!!! Now, I know that the Simpsons are on at a different time on Sundays, but that's not important. Please not that you HAVE to specify what day you want it to go off on (it can be dd/mm/yyyy to be really specific). Default is set to "tomorrow." This was probably too confusing. For one, I talk too much. Thank you for even getting this far, anyways. Thanks a bunch!
