Favorite Medium for sketching?

I've been a pretty-much strictly pen-and-paper sketch artist for most of my life but I've been looking into new canvas materials to doodle/create pieces on. Cardboard is a favorite right now. What do you dabble with?

Portable Drawing Easel

I designed a portable easel out of two pieces of luan (1/8" to 1/4" plywood).  I originally intended to sell them, but decided I didn't really enjoy making them in production levels.  The time vs. cost factor didn't really pan out. Either way, this is a design that might make an artist loved one happy.  It is fairly quick and easy and has a bit of style to it, I think. I added some molding at the bottom to act as a sort of pencil or brush holder.  Just some metal rings to hold the two pieces of wood together and a SWEEEEET woodburning on the front with my name--feel free to put someone else's name on yours! What you don't see in the photos is a leather strap with a small dowel at the end that fits into two notches--one for holding the two sides of the wood from splaying apart when it's in easel mode, and another for when you want to keep it closed for carrying it.

Drawing Anthros Guide

I just wanted to submit a link to this awesome guide I found for drawing anthro's. It's really great and it's also long and detailed (I printed it and it took 102 pages). In the process of teaching you how to draw anthro's it also has great drawing guides and tips for drawing anything - including humans and animals. So, for anyone interested - here's the link: http://hippie.nu/~unicorn/tut/xhtml/

Guides to Drawing Wolves Instructable

A while ago I submited an instructable titled "Guides to Drawing Wolves" that was a collection of four wolf drawing tutorials that I had found helpfull along with my own explanations and reccomendations to go along with each one. For everyone that enjoyed and/or benefited from that instructable I wanted to let you know that I've amassed even more tutorials, some of them even better than the ones I originally had that I made the instructable out of. Thus, in the near future I'll either be updating the original instructable to include more guides, or I'll be making a part two. Either way, if you want to see more keep an eye out for it!

Simple Trick for Drawing Proportioned Human Figures Freehand

I discovered a simple system that makes it easier to draw a human figure freehand with well proportioned and positioned body parts. This video will show you how to do it (very easy). Basically you draw 3 overlapping stars and they show you the proportions. To make the figure look taller / skinnier move the 2 main stars a little further apart. Or if the person looks too narrow move the 2 main stars closer together. Towards the end of the video I show a couple other pieces of artwork that I could show you how to make if you want.

Sketch Furniture - 3D designed and printed

The four FRONT members have developed a method to materialise free hand sketches. They make it possible by using a unique method where two advanced techniques are combined. Pen strokes made in the air are recorded with Motion Capture and become 3D digital files; these are then materialised through Rapid Prototyping into real pieces of furniture.Trendwatching's analysis:Swedish design group FRONT has launched Sketch Furniture, which is a method to materialize freehand sketches. Pen strokes made in the air are recorded with Motion Capture, and the resulting 3-D patterns are output digitally to a laser sintering machine. Over several days, the machine produces the object by shaping and hardening 0.1-mm layers of liquid plastic. Sketch Furniture is on view and on sale (about USD 10,500 per piece) at the Barry Friedman Gallery in New York.

Knife's Edge- Sketch Up

This is a design I came up with and drew (i guess is the term) into sketch up. The Wings swivel up (shown in second Set of pics). This took about 10-15 hrs of drawing and about 2 hrs of rendering. The wings swivel to maneuver and when landing inside atmosphere. I haven't added weaponry and such so it's still a WIP. But suggestions are welcomed. Tech Specs: - Engines:             10 engines (4 small  large) -Take Off type:       VTOL - Class:                  Frigate - Operation zone: Space/ Atmosphere And for you sketch Up and rendering junkies...  used 40 passes in each render.

Help with basic arduino sketch for Halloween

Hello all, I'm very new to Arduino programming, and was trying to write a basic sketch to flash some LEDs in a jack o lantern for halloween, but I'm struggling with the code. Essentially what I wanted to accomplish was blinking a LED from pin 13 x times, followed by fading (pulsing) another LED from pin 9 x times and then repeat.   If anyone would be so kind as to help me accomplish this, I would be very grateful. Thanks in advance.

20$ for Arduino sketch

I will pay 20$ for Arduino sketch. please if you can do; reply here and I will send the flowchart. Flowchart steps: Arduino has one PIR sensor input. when sensor detects a surface at distance 25 cm or closer; it triggers 2 DC motors and 3 servo motors to move randomly. the 3 servos move back or forth at range 0- 60 degrees. Direction is random and amount of movement is also random. but speed is fixed 20 degrees per second. the 3 servos should move same time but independently. the 2 DC motors move forward only for 250ms at full speed. but the interval between on move and another is random between 1-3 seconds. they both independent from each other. you are free to choose which pins you use for input/output. use arduino Nano. Thanks for reading

Linkit One not working

I have a Linkit One that keeps disappearing from my ports when I try to upload a sketch. I was doing some testing of a sketch I had made and I keep getting the message that there was not board on the port I had selected. I have successfully uploaded sketches with this setup before. This was on a Macbook Pro running Yosemite 10.10.5. After several attempts to fix the problem I moved my setup to my Windows 7 machine. The issue is similar. I cannot get the board to remain visible on the port for any amount of time. I plug it in and it shows up for a few second before disappearing again. I fear my board's usb port has gone bad. I can upload to my arduino uno with no problems.   If it is a bad usb port is there anything I can do? Can I upload sketches another way? I would hate to lose the use of this board. Thanks for your time.

I need a mini-arduino! Help with finding one!

Hey guys! I had a question! I got several ATtiny85s and they were great! I was able to use my Arduino Sketches and my use Arduino to upload the code to them. But now I have a new project and I need more then 2 outputs! I need another microcontroller just like the Attiny85 but with say 4-10 outputs. Any sugggestions? Oh, I have to be able to use my Arduino sketches with it, so I can't use things like the picaxe thingy. I also don't want to buy a miniduino or microduino. Thanks!

So anyway, I cracked open an Etch-a-Sketch and got aluminium powder all over my desk. Can anyone help?

When the top half of the case finally snapped off, a cloud of fine aluminium powder was ejected over a large area of my desk. I'd like to clean it up soon, (read: before my Dad gets back), but I can't figure out how to get it off. A light brush from a paper towel smudged it into a nice shiny streak, and blowing doesn't get near enough of the particles off. Would water help or make things worse? Anybody else have experience with this?

I'm having trouble with my sketch regarding how to code , my stepper motor traveling to a limit switch then reversing and accelerating to another limit switch.

I'm having trouble coding at a point, I built an Equatorial Platform for my telescope so I can track the stars.I have a Nema 23 stepper( 1.8 * step, 200 steps per rev.) motor with an Arduino and a Easy Driver for my micro controller. My problem when I make my sketch I have the stepper motor running at 92- 104 RPM with a potentiometer to fine adjust, at this point when my platform hits a limit switch then I want to reverse the motor and accelerate it to 2000 RPM then decelerate to 25 RPM before the platform hits an other limit switch, then start the process over. How do I incorporate accelerating coding that to a certain point then decelerate motor before it hits the other limit switch. Do I need to find some timing coding ( for some length of time), before I want the motor to decelerate to hit the second switch. I don't want the motor running at 2000PM to hit the limit switch, I want it to decelerate before the limit switch. then reverse the motor again to 92 - 104 RPM. I'm a novice at coding with little electrical background. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Jack Brockhurst e-mail jacam9803@yahoo.com

Take a look at this work. The idea was to parody the spots of Red Bull. I thought I would have to do by hand initially, but got a very similar result using the "Sketch and Toon" render in Cinema 4D.

My day job in fast motion.

I have my own business painting murals and doing custom art for clients in commercial and private spaces. Here's a time lapse I did a while back. Thought it was fitting here in the art section. This ceiling is roughly 16 feet by 14 feet in size, and the center of the ceiling is about 17 feet high. I actually painted this ceiling twice because the original owners sold the residence and the new owners wanted a new and different mural in the space, about twelve years apart. A master sketch of the whole ceiling was created, and then each main detail was sketched a second time as a close up so I knew exactly what was to be painted.

Messed Up URL!! Can it be fixed??? Help

Okay. So, I finished my first Instructable!! Then, I screwed up. I was on the last step when I published it & It put my last-step title in the URL & removed my Intro pictures!!!! If I click on the "See All" button, it shows correctly. I've tried to fix it but can't. The name (& Intro title) of the Instructable is: Arduino Ultrasonic "Parking Spotter", which should be in the URL. Instead, the URL is: https://www.instructables.com/id/And-One-Sketch-To-Rule-Them-All/ "And One Sketch To Rule Them All" is the name of my last step! What can I do to get it to: https://www.instructables.com/id/Arduino-Ultrasonic-Parking-Spotter/ I've tried UN-publishing it, but that didn't work. :( Help would be appreciated! Jeff (AptPupil)

I need help on configuring marlin on my arduino mega 2560 ramps 1.4 for a da vinci 2.0 printer

Hi Guy's I am new at this game and in plane words "I have no clue what I'm doing wring" I bought a Da Vinci 2.0 Duo and after a few weeks the problems started. After searching the internet on solutions I discovered that I can rip out the original board of the printer and replace it with Arduino mega 2560 ramps 1.4. I did that and got some info on what the sketch should look like on Youtube but I am struggling to get the printer fully functioned. This project is a little more than what I thought it would be. I tested the boards but they seem ok, again, Youtube help here but now I am at a loss. I mannaged to get the stepper motors to work but I am struggling with the famouse endstops and how to home the axis's. If you think I am way less than a beginner you are right. These things make my head spin. Is there any one that can share his marlin sketch configuration, that is working, with me. I am tired of this now and just want the printer to work. Any help will be much appreciated Many thanks

Dropbox application in background process on OpenWRT processor of my Arduino Yun.

Hello everybody, Simple question: does the Arduino YUN support the same DROPBOX functionalities as my laptop? Basically, I need to download data from the SD card of my Arduino Yun to my application server. But the internet connection of my Arduino is not very stable. How I want it to work: 1.    I have a sketch that writes data on a TXT file to my SD card every 10 minutes 2.    I want to install Dropbox on my Arduino Yun 3.    Then, whenever the Yun is connected, it will synchronize all the files from the SD Card with my Dropbox folder on my server. That would happen (I guess) in the background, without my Arduino needing to run a sketch. To do that, I think I need drobox to run ‘in the background’ on my Arduino microprocessor. Did anyone do this before? Thanks. What does NOT work: Initially, I used the "LogToDropbox" sketch inserted in the "Datalogging to Dropbox with Arduino Yun" tutorial at the following link: https://www.instructables.com/id/Datalogging-to-Dropbox-with-Arduino-Yun/ in order to ‘actively’ upload files to my Dropbox app console from my SD card with an internet connection. But if , my Arduino Yun is losing the internet connection, it is impossible to upload the files created during the downtime to my Dropbox app console. These files are stored on the SD card plugged on the Yun during this time interval, but not synchronized.
