I want to create a PS2 (slim) based fee paying game room for kids, but I want to make it coin operated. I want to use a MOSFET transister switch like this one http://brunningsoftware.co.uk/FET.htm which also doubles as a timer. The coin handling mechanism is the easy part, so dont bother about that.My problem is where to connect the MOSFETswitch in the PS2 console. My first idea was to connect one switch to each of the controllers ( to enable/ disable the controller's power supply on pin 5) but I understand the controller port is part of the PS2 motherboard and new electronic components cant be fitted there (true or false?). If true where else can I fix the switch in such a way that when a game is finished a new game cant be started without feeding in a coin?Any Ideas?

Okay, yesterday I tried the chipless mod for the slimline PS2, and when I superglued the tab on the inside down, it fell off! The connectors are still on the black piece and there are still places for them to go on the board, is there any way that I can make this work? I really can't afford to be out a hundred dollars >.<

Today i bought a used psp, but it won't turn on. When plugged in to charge, it won't charge. this is a shame because i spend $50 on it : ( when a pandora battery is inserted, the psp light turns on. But nothing else happens, the backlight doesn't light up, and no text is displayed (even when magic memory stick is used) i kind of need to make it work... thanks!

Hey guys(and maybe girls), i just hacked my brothers psp slim. Now i am used to the phat pap where you install the 1.50 subset to get homebrew to work, but that said only for fat psp. Only some homebrew works on the slim psp, but has major issues. for instance psp revolution has no sound anywhere, and none of the bottom buttons work. I have tried both the 5.00 and 1.50 kernels in the recovery menu. Is there some patch, or homebrew launcher that i dont know about?? should i install the 1.50 kernel addon anyway? firmware is 5.00 M33-6

I have a 'SlimArt' Sa-5688 LCD monitor, quite an old one (passive LCD) and it has only a cord coming out the back with an S-Video connector on it. I have no idea how to power the unit, so cracked it open to have a look and the cord connects to the board with a white connector as such: ___________________________________ | Red | Black | Blue | White | Nothing | Yellow | ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From what I've read, this is more than the usual S-Video wiring...so how the hell do I get power to this thing?

The family XBOX 360 Slim is no longer detecting the built in 250GB Hard Drive. When booted the console asks for an update and when we attempt to apply the update the console responds with a message saying "You don't have enough storage space to take this update. Please connect an Xbox 360 storage device with at least 190 MB fee space." The hard disc is not full as no profiles are detecting and when the storage tab under settings is viewed the XBOX shows a non-configured hard drive which I am loath to re-format in the case of losing everything. Does anyone know a way to retrieve the data successfully and without permanent damage to the XBOX? We have already tried disconnecting and reconnecting the hard disc physically with a powered down unplugged XBOX.

The PSP Port of bochs was apparently ported for 1.50 Firmware, and no other, Making incompatible with the modern 5XX Custom Firmware. Does anyone here have experience on this and have you gotten bochs to run and at least got past the BIOS loading part? The reason i am forced to use bochs is because it supports All os'es out there, According to my tests, bochs Should be able to Allocate up to 41.2 MB of RAM on a PSP SLIM, but i can't get bochs to start on my PSP. When i start it it gives me the traditional error(that means that it is only for firmware 1.50) So i installed LEDA It stands for something, supposedly it allows you to run most 1.50 firmware apps on 3++ Firmware. Now it starts, It slowly fades out, like perfect And then after a few seconds it exits, no error, what i suspect being wrong is a configuration file. So If anyone got it to run, At least to the Bios loading part, Keep me updated, and post a comment. Thanks ~ReCreate

I use a PDA that, through some questionable wisdom, is powered by two standard AAA NiMH batteries, but are not easily replaceable. They are plastic-wrapped with a heat sensor and two soldered connections which then connects to a circuit board. . These can be replaced by replicating the set up with tape and soldering in the new batteries, which works fine, but is a lot of hassle. What I would like to do is design and make a battery holder that will cut out at least some of the more tedious parts. Preferably I would like to find a way to just unhook the connector from the circuit board, and then easily extract the two batteries and replace them with no soldering required. The problems are that the space is quite tight, so any method I try will have to be barely bigger than the batteries themselves.

We have had our xbox 360 slim for a good few months now and within the last month or so, a red dot has been appearing on the power ring in place of the green power light after about 10 seconds of being powered up. The error code that is displayed is E82 and we have it connected through HDMI and when we did some research on the problem, it looks like it is a HDMI error and we have it feeding through a Onkyo amp. The link is to an image of what it looks like ( http://gameinformer.com/resized-image.ashx/__size/550x0/__key/CommunityServer.Components.UserFiles/00.00.45.43.99.Attached+Files/5857.rdod.JPG ). I've been searching youtube for videos of how to install LED light strips into my XBOX 360 SLIM and I have yet to find a tutorial of it. Every video I find is either of the original XBOX 360 or just a video of an already completed Slim. I don't have any knowledge of electronics, but figured I could watch an extremely thorough and descriptive video on youtube of how to do it. If anybody has any helpful links with videos and/or pictures that I can use, I would greatly appreciate it. I did find a product named the "Storm V2" for the XBOX 360 that is a color changing LED system that looks extremely simple to install, but i'm looking to save a few bucks if I can (plus i'm not really digging that shade of green). However, instructions on how to install a color changing LED system that is a lot cheaper would be incredible as well. I don't mind videos/pictures that require soldering. I'm looking more into attaching it to the motherboard itself, but if recommended to do it to the disk drive, I'll take that suggestion as well. It just seems easier from the original xbox LED insallations that the motherboard is easier, I just don't know where the spots are located on the SLIM's motherboard. All helpful tips, links, and info are greatly appreciated.

OK, i'm like really good with fixing a computer but i'm not that great about how parts work. So, I was wondering, see, i have an old (Slim) ps2 that doesn't work anymore. I was going to throw it away but decided i should be able to make something out of these parts! Now, i'm wondering if theres any parts of convenience here what can i make out of these parts? I should be able to create something if i fiddle around with old ps2 slim parts long enough. Any suggestions? I have attached a picture of what i have to work with.

I wanted to have a large amount of green LEDs power on with my xbox 360 slim for ambient lighting and just to look cool, with 30+ LEDs I cant power them directly from the USB port so I was wondering if there was a way to have them still turn on by only pressing the power button on the system.

I've have been considering making/purchasing a 3D printer. I've slimmed down the choices to the RepRap Mendel, and the Makerbot Cupcake. Both seem like good choices, but I can't really decide. The big factors in my purchase should be performance above all else, price, availability of parts, and the type of plastic it uses. Can anyone please suggest something?

Has anyone ever gotten outside funding for a project you were building? I have an idea for a device to make our local greenway trail safer but my investment in it would be at least a couple hundred dollars. I'm looking for ideas to gather outside funding for the project because it will benefit everyone who uses those trails. Because i am an individual and not an organization, my chances of getting grant money (even a mere $200) are slim.
