Computer modders take prizes in NVIDIA's Speak Visual Contest. The contest was open to computer modders and visual artists, but most of the winners are modders. The grand prize winner blows away the competition and deserves the powerhouse computer that its creator will get. (We met the Austin Modders at Maker Faire Austin - they had some great stuff on display.)Scroll down, all the way down, to see Instructables user whatsisface's entry that won him a couple books.UPDATE: Another Instructables user, nav.sparx, won a BFG GeForce GTX 260 OC MAXCORE graphics card. Nice! Link

I am asking if anyone who can would record their voice saying: "It is time to wake up now" After this is recorded save it as a mp3 or wav and upload the file and post it in a comment below. Thanks!

A "speaking piano" reciting the Proclamation of the European Environmental Criminal Court at World Venice Forum 2009. Austrian composer Peter Ablinger transferred the frequency spectrom of the childs voice to his computer controlled mechanical piano. (translated from German) Peter Ablinger: I break down this phonography, meaning a recording of something the voice, in this case -, in individual pixels, one can say. And if I have the possibility of a rendering in a fairly high resolution (and that I only get with a mechanical piano), then I in fact restore some kind of continuity. Therefore, with a little practice, or help or subtitling, we actually can hear a human voice in a piano sound. link: youtube

Hi I am new to instructables, and while I currently do not have a instructable posted (maybe soon) I noticed there are not many instructables in Spanish. I think i saw maybe one at best. There are many Spanish speaking people who do not speak English in the United States (and indeed the world over) who could benefit greatly from the wealth of information provided by this wonderful website. I speak and write fluent English and Spanish. (I also speak Swedish but I am not very good at writing it.) To get the ball rolling I am offering translation of any instructable on this site. Just send me a message and I will start doing what I do. By translating your post you will be appealing to a much wider audience, and probably get more votes! Who doesn't want that?

I cringe everytime someone uses the word Latino when generically speaking of Spanish-speaking people. I prefer to be called Spanish or Hispanic. Some people may disagree with me but I think that calling me a Hispanic describes my true ethnical and cultural origin. Although many people will bring the fact that the colonization of America by the Spanish conquerors was bloody and opressive, we still owe to Spain the origin of our countries. From Mexico to Patagonia and the Large Antilles, the Spanish conquistadores left their footprint in the form of language, architecture, religion, cooking, stories, art, crafts and culture. In contrast, a Latino is anyone who descends from people that speak a Romance language like: French, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and Romanian. By that definition, when we speak of Latin America we include countries like Brasil, Haiti, French Guyana and, Surinam. The same definition could apply to Italian-Americans, French-Americans, French-Canadians, and Cajun people.

Hi, my name's Oli and I am a speech therapist - aka speech pathologist in US. I am looking for a way (e.g. an app) that can determine how fast someone is speaking, in realtime. This kind of biofeedback would be really useful for many people with communication disorders where learning to speak slower can help a lot (e.g. stuttering, dysarthria). I can also see it being useful for teaching public speaking to students etc. Does anyone know of anything out there (hardware or app) that can do this? Or where I might find someone I could pay to develop this app? Many thanks, Oli

Here is an article and a video about a couple that wishes to sail their boat made of plastic bottles, from San Francisco to Australia. David de Rothschild is preparing to sail from San Francisco to Australia in a raft made of 12,000 recycled bottles. Among other things, he is hoping to convince the world to take better care of its waste. The Link and video are here

Well I've just heard that I'm one of 20 young people in the whole of the Uk going to westminster to speak and be consulted about child services and bereavement, on 6th of may I go over to speak, damn this is cool I will have a say in something... Out of the group that was asked for candidates four of us were chosen from our recent video project work, I was selected because I apparently have good ideas and am skilled at arguing points and expressing my self sensibly... Woot skills...The whole thing is about improving child services around the UK and I've got to say it's about time... There are very few decent social workers and the system is pretty bad on the whole, minimizing the effect of decent social workers and the like, counsellors are soon going to be boning up on dealing with bereaved kids due to our video project along with teachers and if the funding goes through we may be doing another on helping friends or ourselves... Any suggestions from the UK people here in following withA friend in need is a friend indeed Coping with it?

Five runners up will win the BFG GeForce GTX 260 OC MAXCORE. Others will win copies of Building The Perfect PC 2nd Edition or Make Projects: Small Form Factor PCs from MAKE.Even cooler, one of the ways to enter is to submit an Instructable with "modificationstation" as a tag. How excited I was, when my Public Speaking teacher handed out a prompt for our next presentation: "You must present to the class, a toutorial on how to make or do something" I was ecstatic, I thought this would be cake, its in the bag! But, here I am, struggling to find something to do, I have access to some of the best projects ever, but I can't just narrow it down to one! It must be made/presented in 7-10 minutes, to 30 seniors in high school. Would you mind suggesting something I can make, and demonstrate to my Public Speaking class? My thoughts were: www.instructables.com/id/Rubber-band-Powered-Butterfly/ www.instructables.com/id/Pocket-Graffiti-Pen/ Any more ideas?

I need some help with english in connection with scientific work in a lab and things like that. I am able to speak english nearly fluent in normal conversation but on special subjects i am lost. I am studying chemistry and a few days ago, when i had to talk to a lab assistant, who didn't speak german(my native language), I thought something like 'WTF is that thing called where you store volatile compounds and where you do the experiments etc.'. It would be nice, if you could tell me some words for common lab equipment and phrases that are essential in a chemistry lab, especialy for the case that something goes wrong. (well of course i also need a short explanation if the meaning isn't obvious) Thanks in advance.

Hello, As a french user, there is a feature that I feel is lacking on the website: the possibility to translate an instructable to make it available for people who do not speak english. There have been a few times here where an Instructable was the perfect how-to to share with people in my local maker community, but most french people are not fluent in english. So I had to translate it for them. Furthermore, I would be happy to translate some useful instructables here and there when needed around me. But this work is not shared to the community of Instructables and makers that could benefit from it, only to a few people around me. Could there be a functionality on the website so that an instructable could be translated and made available in multiple languages ? I do not mean that everything should be translated in every language and all, but if someone translates something, then it can be made available to other people speaking that language. Well, I hope you consider it, My 2 cents, pol / littlevache

I am looking for designs for "secret boxes" that could stand up to being permanently outdoors, most likely mounted on some surface. As we speak, I'm running some searches here on Instructibles, but thought I should also go straight to the creators. Also... please let me know if this might be better posted in another forum. Thanks!!!!!

I'm sure this must be covered somewhere but I can't figure out how to get rid of someone's inappropriate comments on my Instructable. Any help is appreciated. I went to the comment, clicked flag. Marked as inappropriate. Does it just take a few days? I don't want my project to be a platform for a loudmouth that isn't even speaking about the project.

As chatroom mods, we try to keep the chatroom up to snuff. Sifting out the bad, making the room presentable to new members. So, speaking for all of the moderators in the Instructables Chatroom, how well/bad/mediocre are we doing our jobs? Is there anything we can improve on, would you like to join us, and be a mod? Make your voice heard!

I'm presuming i'll need momentary switches of some kind. Thanks for any help :) Note: this is for a guy who is autistic and won't speak. It will enable him to be able to have an opinion by just pressing the button

Hello, I am creating an audio billboard, you all have seen billboards with words, this is a billboard, but there it also talks to you. WHY? Because I am here in Kara, Togo West Africa. In this village they speak 3 local language, and if very educated, they speak French, but if you really wanted them to listen, you would talk in Kabye. I would like to offer free Malaria medicine to people, and this could save babies from dying, 1 in 10 dies that has the Malaria parasite. Mothers avoid going the lab, or taking the cure because it cost one weeks pay, about 7-10 dollars. The longer they delay, the more likely the baby is too weak, and dies. The need to know, money is the problem, but how to tell them, this audio box is to tell them money is there in their own language. But to make it work for one-month, or one year without maintenance is the challenge. I am will experiment with the device inside a Hotel signs, and try to have the Hotel help, they get an ad, and the public ad is served, help them, and they help. The electricity goes off between 3 and 10 hours, sometimes more in Africa, about 200 countries and this box is not close to electricity lines, but next to water pick up spots. I want to power a 6 Volt Radio I can buy here in Togo, West Africa with a 6 volt motorcycle battery. I am hoping to have the radio run for 10 days, 24/ 7. I can buy a 6 volt motorcycle battery easy, and can even charge it by connecting to a running cycle with alligator clips. But, I need to figure out the correct way to set this up. I learned today, I cannot buy a 6 volt battery charger here: - So I put a diagram down below showing how to make one? Is there a way to know when the thing is fully charged? http://www.alpharubicon.com/elect/3dollarbattggn.htm What is needed to connect the battery the radio? - I put a wiring diagram with a fuse and diode, is this correct? This is a French speaking country, I speak ok French, but not the word needed to make this device. I need help. Andy Graham of HoboTraveler.com in Kara, Togo West Africa. Thanks

I really wanted to know why contests are open to canadian members except Quebec? In my head, that does'nt make any sense, because even if the first langage is French, almost everyone speaks English too. If the reason is anything else, and if you know the answer to my question, please answer me. I would really like to have a chance to win a contest while sharing my creations with the world. Sincerely, Tjay42
