Speakers

I have 4 speakers from the JBL On Stage ipod speakers that i want to rewire and use as portable speakers. I'd like to wire them together into a headphone cable so they can be plugged into a laptop and powered through the laptop or by batteries. I realize not all four may be able to be wired together so even just 2 or maybe 1 i'd be fine with. They are 1 inch in diameter each. Is it possible?? General Specs Drivers Four Odyssey Neodymium drivers Power Output 6 watts per channel Frequency Response 80Hz – 20kHz Input Impedance >5k ohms Signal-to-Noise Ratio >80dB Voltage Input 120 Vac U.S.

Hey you guys are all so creative and knowledgable, this site is so great (tho terrible for my procrastination) does anyone know how to build a speaker to fit certain dimensions? like how flat could i make a speaker, and how loud would it be for something only a half inch thick (if thats possible) and up to 12" wide? it is meant to plug into an mp3 for power source etc.

Speakers

So I saw this in the ad, and thought it too good to be true. Are they nearly decent? I don't need anything fancy, just something that doesn't sound crappy to the untrained ear. And if the normal speakers are crap. Could I just use the sub?http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7784926&st;=7784926&type;=product&id;=1142290023793

Directional SPeaker

I saw a youtube video of a guy who built his own directional speaker (actually I remember it as a directional megaphone as he would talk into it, and it would target a person). I was wondering how easy it would be to do this? Can we build one with household material? Thanks for being awesome guys!

Speechbubble speakers

Hey guys and gals! I saw this cool speaker design on Yanko, speechbubble speakers. essentially two speakers in the form of speech-bubbles. (see link) So I was wondering how to go about making speakers in this style myself. Would I use two speech-bubble shaped pieces of wood with a cutout for a speaker, connect them with little wooden blocks and cover the sides in some sort of flexible wood and the front with black speaker fabrick and paint all the wood a glossy white or what? Would I be able to fold real plastic around the wooden sides, as it would be with the real speaker design? Or do you gals and guys have any other ideas? Images below!

Crystal Speakers? Answered

I'm planning on building myself (or modifying my existing one) to create the ultimate workspace and among the several features I have planned (usb hub etc) I have one particularly tricky one, I'd like to integrate the desk with a speaker system but massive drivers wont cut it on such a small surface area. I had recently seen a speaker system that uses glass or crystal vibrating to create amazing sound, I was wondering how I'd shape such crystals and if anyone has any general ideas on the design of the speaker system  ?

Speaker on the blitz

I moved all my stereo equipment around a month ago or so. And I noticed that my speakers never sounded the same as before the move around. Today I got a little fed up with the shitty sound they had, and apon turning my balance on my mac to the left, the music sounds very tonal. It's not very bassy like my right speaker. If I turn it over to the right speaker it sounds normal, and shakes the room, but the left one does not vibrate my room worth 2 cents. I even switched the speakers around to see if it was my left channel on the amp, and it's not, it's the speaker. Anyone have any ideas why it sounds like this?? And yes, it was hooked up correctly, I did try switching the wires around, and it sounded worse, so yes it was connected correctly. These are technics twin woofer floor speakers, thought they were decent but my faith in them is very little right now. Thanks guys for anything you come up with.

DIY Speakers

What we did was took different types of copper wire to find out which was the best for the quality of our speaker. We tried a wider gauged wire, a longer, and a couple other unsuccessful hypothesis´. The best one was the longer wire. About 1 meter long.  The things you need:  -copper wire -av cables -box without the lid -magnet from a speaker -av cables -stereo to connect to the av cable -tape to put you copper on the box

Bad for the speaker?

I stole some poly fill/insulation shit out of a old pair of speakers that are waiting for some new drivers and I stuffed it in my subwoofer box. It doesn't sound like it's going to explode as much as it did before (it's a rather "rickety" box). But I did some googleing and it can overpower a speaker or something? I won't hurt my sub will I? -Punk

directional speaker

My neighbours (25m) play music outside every night till 4-5am. The bass is the problem. I'm going insane. Police comes and goes. Need instructions on either option - killing, hijacking speakers or building directional speaker for payback.  Can't spend much and have no knowledge of sound system but have CB in my car, 1200W sound system with wireless rear, sub and amp removed from car. Any help would be great as Im already researching ninja road stars. The bass is so strong I can't cover it with mine.

Turn passive speakers into active speakers?

Hi, I finally got around to starting the Altoids Tin Guitar but I have a problem: I have no amp. And an electric guitar is kind of useless without an amp. I figured I could use some old computer speakers but I realized that they are not powered speakers. Is there any way to turn passive speakers into active speakers? Or at the very least is there any software I can download that will let me hear the guitar on my computer as I play? I've tested the piezo (attatched to the 1/8" jack with an audio cable.. I forgot what you call it, but it's the kind that has two plugs) by plugging it into the mic jack for my computer and holding it near my acousic guitar while I strum. I can record audio just fine but I can't hear as I play. Is there any software that would let me do that? (A demo is fine with me.)

Convert USB speaker to 3.5mm speaker

I have a USB speaker (image attached). These work great off the computer, but now I want to extend these to work with my ipod. I want it to host a 3.5mm input switch for connecting a normal ipod or mp3 player, at the same time still use it my computer when I want to. I tried following this, but it's not exactly what I want. Any ideas ?

Turn laptop speakers into aux speakers

My laptop just died and I took it apart. The speakers have a 4-pin connector, which I would like to splice into aux and power to make an aux enabled speaker I can use. How do I do this? Pics: https://goo.gl/photos/PdyBhVxXLBfJfL3Z8 Thanks and RIP laptop. A little eulogy, because why not: Dear laptop, you will be missed. I had you for 5 years and you were a great machine. I took you apart and put you back together. We had a great time together and you lived a long life. I hope you have a great afterlife as a set of speakers, external monitor, hand warmer, and many more projects. You will be missed.

Amp for a homemade speaker box with car speakers?

The speakers are almost definitely going to be a pair Sony Xplod XS-R5743's Specs: 4-Ohm 190W Peak 35W RMS So with these power specs, what should the power ratings for the amp be? I considered building an amp, and unless there is something I've missed, it looks cheaper just to buy a car amp and just make it run from a wall outlet after a transformer. Especially when every amp that I see being built is a low power 1W LM386. Please, let me know the best method for amplifying the audio to these speakers and the required power. Thanks

And if it's possible at all. I want to add 2 speakers that will make the toy sounds more audible. I am not sure of the following though: (a) What kind of speaker to use (b) I assume I need to add a separate power supply for the new speakers, but how do I connect it to the toy Thanks!

Simple, speaker question. Answered

Hello, All I want to do is create a very low, and reasonably audible hum or drone from this speaker ; about as loud as a person humming as hard as they can before their throat hurts and they start coughing. Is it possible to avoid an amplifier and just run a voltage into it so that it just makes a single tone as described ? If so: I found this big broken speaker in the road. As you can see, the Cone is missing a section, but the surround and spider are intact. The cone is credit card thickness plastic. Is it feasible to just patch it up with some similar plastic and contact adhesive; it does not have to be a good sound, just a drone. I realise that my grasp of electronics is child like and readily accept the impending abusive comments and links to the Google homepage. Thank you  FOH

Headphones Speakers hack

I've been thinking about this for quite a while now. Since I can remember, I always had problems when it comes to these, after a while, I always end up with the same problem, my speakers not working properly, its always the same, one speaker works fine, the other not so much, same happens with headphones, one side just stops working, and I have to jiggle with the jack to make it work. Of course after I end up buying a new set of speakers/headphones and that's it. I figured this happens because I plug in and out the heapdhones too many times, I use the speakers during the day, but at night I can't be loud so I swith to heapdhones, well, at least, this is my guess about the problem. This is what I was thinking about. I would need a way to have both heapdhones and speakers plugged in at the same time, and be able to switch between them at my please (by software or hardware). However I never even heard of an on off switch or anything like that. Does anyone have any kind of idea of how I could do this?

car speakers troubleshoot

Ok, so my back speakers of my car aren't working properly... they were working good for a while but aren't as of today... I brought both of them inside and connected them to a household stereo and they both work perfectly in that scenario but one works a lot better than the other in the car. speaker A works well when it is place on either the driver side or the passenger side, speaker B sounds weak and tinny when on either the driver side or the passenger side... Please help me out, i've been racking my brain trying to figure out why they arent working correctly in my car when they play perfectly in my house... and they are car speakers not house speakers

Cell phone speaker?

So, y'know how sometimes you might feel like sharing your music with friends, but you dont want to share you headphones? The solution would be to carry speakers, but usually they're sort of bulky and they wont fit in your pockets very well. So, what about cell phones? even some that are maybe a few years old are still smaller then some speakers. Everyone knows taht cell phones can be Really loud, so what if we somehow add a cable to attach to an audio device, and switch around some things inside, and use the dead phone as speakers?! I would try and do this, but i have no idea how, so this is just an idea for you peoples to think about.!
