I don't know what to use. Should I use tips that explode or tips to spear. The torpedo I am currently making is made for ballistic tips but which should I use?

I was making a bamboo hunting spear (Which I will make an instructable on soon), and when I found the heart of the stick, it was gross! The inside was covered in this snot-like substance that smelled horrendous, and the sponge type thing that is usually inside bamboo was practically gone! Does anyone know what could have caused this?

Anyone have any clue what this tool was used for or what it is called? It was found in the dirt on a farm. I will attempt to describe as best as I can hoping that this will help after you see the pictures. It looks like the main piece is like a large needle with an eye at the one end and a point at the other. Then there is a curved hook sideways to the main piece (see the shadow on my leg). The hole/open portion in the middle appears to be some sort of clamp. When you press on the tab piece that is closer to the eye, the hole opens up, releases the pressure on whatever may be inside the hole.

May I ask what qualifications you posess? When you say you "know the way of all the weapons and how to make them in under 10 mins" you are lying. Yes they can be made badly form odd found materials throughout the home, but to make for examble a ninja-to bokken or yari spear at best will take days.

Just a few days ago I made a portable K'nex cannon. I was just wondering If I should make it be my first instructable. Here's more info: Range: Average Accuracy: Difficult Size: Medium Extras: Loading stick doubles as a small spear, end of barrel has points, and Includes ammo carriers. Should I post it?

I would love to see a good spear for fishing and a sheild I have not seen many sheilds. If my message body is bad don't judge me i don't really know what to say this is my first time posting something like this and excuse my bad grammar please. Also I'm new here thats why I have not posted any instructables yet.

I'm reasonably certain that I didn't dream this up, but if I did I am sorry. No, not really because somebody should make a coffee brand called that. Anyway apparently there was back in the DDR a coffee brand called 'JavaFix'(spelling uncertain) Which is either a mistranslated or made up name or it was actually called that in which case it's awesome and I have to know where to get a tin or two. (or at least a high resolution image.) Yes I did google it and no I didn't find any appropriate links. (Presumably Britney Spears owns the whole coffee industry with something weird called a "latte" or a 'frappuccino' I assume it is some type of hard drug made of amphetamines ground toddlers and the anguished cries of dying orphans...)

Depending on the program, government Trojan horses may intercept email or VoIP traffic, scan hard drives for relevant digital media or even record conversations and videoconferences. As this type of software captures data and then sends it back to a central server for processing and analysis without a user's knowledge, it is generally classified as a back door Trojan horse virus. Governments have approached implementing Trojan horses in different ways. Swiss government agencies have been reported to be working with Internet service providers (ISPs) to record speech on an infected PC's microphone, as opposed to of intercepting encrypted voice packets. German agencies have sought authority to plant Trojan horses on the hard drives of suspected criminals using email that would install keyloggers, record webcams and microphones and scan infected hard drives for for documents, diagrams and photography. I want to be King Leonidas from 300 for Halloween, but I don't want a cheap vinyl costume, or anything like that. I want actual metal..just having some trouble figuring out what all to do.Helmet - I've heard that aluminum roof flashing is easy to cut and work with..any ideas on how to make the skull cap/hair on top?(Mixing bowl suggested by Jessy)Cape - I'm going to take a deep red piece of cloth, cut up an old belt for the straps, and make some kind of clasp.Spear - Probably some conduit with a cardboard or possibly metal tip (how does one paint metal?)Sword - If aluminum flashing is easy to cut, ill cut out a blade, and then a plywood handle. I am aware that the riveted and pinned construction of these items makes them inherently less durable and less corrosion resistant than single piece construction. However I am a college student who is working with mostly scraps and whatever has to be purchased. Since mild steel thick enough to carve the Warhammers or War Axe is not common scrap material around the college's machine shop the only way to economically create them is to use stacked plate construction. As for the BoneSplitter, BoneCracker, and Bastard sword the stacked plate construction is used to both reduce the weight of the item and stiffen it at the same time.

We're used to thinking about the cost per unit of energy (e.g. $/gallon of gasoline) with the implicit assumption that cost is a rough indicator of what is required to obtain that energy. The Oil Drum has a nice piece on Energy Return on Investment (EROI) and the implications of using low EROI energy sources. To dive right in, it's instructive to think about the EROI of domestic oil production as a function of time:100:1 in 193030:1 in 197011-18:1 in 2000EROI on the Web part 2 of 5, (Provisional Results Summary, Imported Oil, Natural Gas)Energy return on investment, sometimes called EROI and sometimes called EROEI, is thought by many, including myself, to be a critical issue for determining the past, present and future status of human society. It is usually considered in terms of energy return on energy investment, but it can also be considered in terms of energy return on monetary investment. While much of human progress has been attributed, rightfully, to technology, much of that technology has been a means of using more energy for human ends. This is true for fire, knife blades and spear points (energy concentrating devices), the development of agriculture and the increase in its productivity and, essentially all aspects of the industrial revolution.EROI is simply the energy delivered by an energy-obtaining activity compared to the energy required to get it. If the numerator and denominator are expressed in the same units (barrels per barrel, MegaJoules per MegaJoule) the result is a dimensionless ratio, i.e. 100:1 or 10:1). Obviously a higher ratio implies a more desirable fuel than a lower one, other things being equal (which is rarely the case). The concept is extremely simple in theory but often very difficult in execution, mostly because society generally maintains its records in monetary rather than energy terms. Another problem is that the U.S. Government has not supported such studies in a consistent fashion and it is my perception that the quality of some energy records as are kept by e.g. the U.S. Departments of Energy and of Commerce appear to be deteriorating in recent years. Thus deriving the energy cost of getting energy (or most other things) is generally somewhat, and oftentimes exceedingly, difficult. A second problem is that the usual measure of the quantity of a fuel, its heat value, often does not give a full assessment of that fuel's ability to do economic or other work. Most simply electricity and thermal heat from e.g. coal or oil have a great difference in their ability to do work, such as we are willing to trade three or four heat units of coal or oil in a thermal plant for one thermal unit of higher quality electricity. Thus if the input and output fuels are of different quality then it is often thought desirable to weight in some way the inputs and the outputs. A third problem is that it is important to consider boundaries: how large should we draw the boundaries of the energy analysis for the inputs? We will consider these issues in far more detail in later publications but there are many reasons why it is important to make summaries of EROI available at this time even though many uncertainties exist in the numbers that we present here, and indeed with any numbers that might be possible to generate.via jforbess

MARKET STREET PROTOTYPING FESTIVAL OPEN CALL Autodesk Keystone Project Call Opens: July 11, 2014 Call Closes: September 2, 2014 Shortlist Interviews: September 17-19, 2014 Proposal Selection: October 1, 2014 CALL SUMMARY: The San Francisco Planning Department has partnered with Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (YBCA) to produce the Market Street Prototyping Festival: an innovative, hands-on, publicly sourced approach to creating the next chapter of San Francisco’s public life. The Market Street Prototyping Festival builds upon a five-year, multi-agency effort for a Better Market Street to re-establish San Francisco’s civic spine as a place to stop and spend time, meet friends, people watch, or just stroll and experience the scenery. As a formal piece of the planning process, the Prototyping Festival will commission and exhibit up to 50 design projects that aim to improve lives by improving public spaces. Each of the selected prototype projects will be installed on Market Street for the full duration of the three-day festival, which will take place in April 9-11, 2015. Matched with one of five Festival Districts on Market, selected teams will work directly with community members to shape the direction of their designs. The call for applications for those 50 projects is currently open and will close on September 2nd, 2014. More information on that process can be found on the Market Street Prototyping Festival website. Market Street will be broken out into 5 districts along the corridor: Civic Center, Central Market, Retail, Financial, Embarcadero. Each district, or "Block," will be represented by a Block Captain. Each Captain will mentor 10 selected prototyping teams and will be responsible for developing their own Keystone Project that will serve as the primary focal point for each district. As the Block Captain for the Embarcadero district, Autodesk is seeking proposals from engineers, industrial designers, architects, artists, and interactive designers for a large-scale Keystone Project to serve as a physical, visual and social anchor for the Embarcadero section of the festival. While there is no official theme for the festival itself, the Autodesk Keystone Project should relate to the ethos “Inspire, Design, Create.” Additionally, it should connect to the character of the Pier 9 Workshop where artists, designers and fabricators are empowered to test the limits of existing technology, both digital and mechanical. Special consideration may be given to projects that incorporate the following themes related to place-making and the unique social and spatial conditions of the Embarcadero district: • site specificity: social, cultural, geographic, and civic histories • connecting digital and physical realms • daring experimentation/playful prototyping • edge condition: city + waterfront • wayfinding and transportation networks LOCATION: Over the course of the festival, the city anticipates foot traffic of over 300,000 visitors. The Keystone Project may be installed anywhere within the festival’s Embarcadero district, which starts at the intersection of Market and Spear Street, extending to the traffic island at Embarcadero and Market, possibly including Jimmy Herman Plaza.
