Cricket is a great sport, but in north america we don't exactly play it. I was wondering if anybody other than me and Kiteman know how to play. Do you? If so, PM me.

I would like to have some opinions on my entry into the Make up a Sport contest. I really am not looking for a lot of "hits" from this, just so I get some opinions on it from a few perspectives. Thanks: Entry Link: Cheese Racing

even though I don't normally sit down and watch "sports" of any kind (unless I am trying to pick up some pointers, like watching snooker, chess, or other tournaments), that compared to football in the USA, or baseball, the action was definitely more engaging. I mean, they actually moved around on the field, and for longer periods of time then 2-3 seconds. Our football is comprised of 1-3 seconds of movement followed by nearly 30 seconds or more of wondering about until the next play. Rugby to American football is like a cheetah is to a snail. If I am going to watch one of them, I will watch the cheetah :-)

Listening to Silvio Rivier, the host of Global Village, there was a section on Hydrofoil Surfing. I turned to the television, interested by this large word, to see this guy surfing a foot above the water! It seems that instead of floating along the water like a normal surfboard this board actually would be below the water while you stand on it. A jet ski pulls the surfer up to speed, bringing him up to the top of the water, but that's not it, there's a fin that leads down a foot and a half or so below the board, and attached to the end of that is a special shaped piece of metal called a hydrofoil that collects the water as it comes up from the bottom of the sea and goes over as a wave. The surfer then keeps going upwards, until the "foil" is about 4 inches under the water. Therefore the surfer can balance above the water, with very little resistance & going very fast. It's technically possible that this could be used for surfing not just close to land, but hundreds of miles out, so the person can surf for as long as their legs hold out, because they can surf in rougher water. Does any body think they could build one of these? Balancing on one is supposed to be like using a uni-cycle, & I'm having trouble surfing normally so even if I did build this I probably couldn't ride it. This goes out to Laird Hamilton, the creator of this funky board, & I'm looking forward to an Instructable. Cheers everybody, ~K P.S. The links aren't working so I'll add them as soon as possible. Neither is the video button, sorry about that, I'll have to add a picture instead.

Does or has anyone here played sports? Which sport did you play? Were you pro? I'm currently trying out for my football team at school, so if I make it, my Instructables usage will decrease sharply. Thank goodness it ends in November. Well, now it's your turn.

I once saw a local musician play the guitar and sing in a small venue. For one song, they dimmed the lights on the stage almost completely, and the sport coat he was wearing suddenly "switched on" and he had hundreds of tiny little light beads sewn into the jacket that you could not see before. They were not string lights, like for a Christmas tree. They seemed to be much more LED like, and bright, and most of all, small to the point of being invisible. I hate to be a copy cat... but I want to make a jacket like this too. I do not care if it is portable. i.e. if I have to plug it in, that's fine. Anyone have any ideas for where I might start?

I want to build a sports car, Everyone (Kurtis,Crosley, etc.) did it in the '60s, why can't we do it now? Anyone got ideas? I might have an engine to a Datsun 280z, but it might be too rusty. I still need ideas for fuel injection/ignition.

Hi, Patrick here. I am building a scrum sled training device and hope to use an Arduino MEGA to do the thinking! Basically the idea is simple enough. I want the Processor to start a timing sequence once a start button is pushed. I want the processor to then activate a voice saying, 'Touch, Pause....Engage' Much like you hear the ref saying in professtional rugby. Once the word 'engage is said by the processor through a speaker or buzzer, a timing sequence would start, and ending when the player makes contact with the pads on the scrum sled. This conact will bge made by limit switches feediong back into the processor ending the sequence. I have attached a PDF of the sled design. Can Anyone help me with the programming!? ANY HELP at all, is very much appreciated. Thanks again, Patrick

I once read that technology never dies. There are people today that still make flint knives and start fires by friction. Furthermore, these skills have been passed down generation to generation. To prove the hypothesis, the authors got an old Sears Catalog from the 1890s and picked out two pages of stuff they had never heard of. They found all of them still available for purchase somewhere. Why then, can I not find the Cycle Skates in this 1923 video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjtPn4orR9A They were apparently invented in 1870. (http://pedespeed.blogspot.com/2007/07/following-is-from-leonard-de-vries.html) I cannot find the patent info as they seem to be from France. I know in 2004 someone "re-invented" them as Chariot Skates. Anyway, I would like to learn how to make my own 1870 / 1923 style cycle skates. Anyone out there who can help?

My neighbor was selling a standard paintball gun and all of the accessories and a pant pistol. He made me an offer for $40 for just the Pistol and the accessories, i don't know what he'll charge for the gun and the accessories but probably a little more. Should I get just the pistol and use it only or should I buy both if the price is low. What do you think? (Thats not the one in the picture)

I hate sports on TV. In math class today, we were talking about how some major league baseball player who gets paid at least 1 Million dollars per year has a batting average of .235, which is pretty lame. Why the heck do people pay tickets or watch TV just to see average people play baseball or basketball or any sport actually? In that case, why don't people pay to watch kids play basketball in the gym or to watch adults play softball in their free time? It's the same thing, the only thing that the people who play sports in their spare time don't have is a huge corporation backing them up and putting their faces on TV. Secondly, it gets in the way of programs I want to watch. I turn on the TV at the advertised time to watch Family Guy, which was at 7:00, and instead I get to watch a baseball game with sub-par action. I don't really care about who won what game, and I don't see how this is any different from sports games that adults play out of their spare time. To make it worse, kids at school just talk and talk and talk about the sports games. Shut the hell up people! I don't care about the games, I don't care who won, I don't care about that pass or slam dunk, stop wasting my time. Boycott sports. Don't buy tickets, don't watch games, and DON'T BUY ANY TEAM JERSEYS THAT STORES HAPPEN TO SELL!

Ok, this is a forum topic for Chicago Bears fans (and really, all sports fans). Who thinks that the Chicago Bears are the most depressing team to be a fan of? I just got done watching the Bears/Falcons game. That was depressing. They had their chance to come back... and they blew it! Oh well, there's always next week.

The world's first international hydrogen-powered motorsport race was held in Rotterdam this weekend.Dubbed the Formula Zero championship, the contest pitted teams from five countries against each other in a zero-emissions go-kart race. Each team's entry was powered by a commercial fuel cell that produces electricity from hydrogen. It may be small-scale, with only six teams entering go-kart sized vehicles, but Formula Zero is an officially-recognised motorsport, with plans for scaling up to Formula Three and the Formula One style and speeds."In 10 years if the motorsport industry as a whole hasn't engaged in zero or low emission principles, it probably won't be around," said Greg Offer, who headed up the Imperial College London team. "Teams that embrace this new technology early on will succeed, and those that don't will fall by the wayside."Racing excitement won't suffer, though; Dr. Offer says that fuel-cell powered vehicles don't represent a compromise in performance over traditional petrol-fuelled engines.'"With a combustion engine, you have to reach three or four thousand revs to get your peak power," he says. "With an electric vehicle, it's all there from standing, and they're more efficient." The next races are planned for the US in March 2009. Plenty of time to get your own entry built.Imperial TeamFormula Zero homepageBBC news article

Looking for someone who can make a agility/reaction timer or make the plans for it so it can get to work. Found on YT (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=820YiXvPF9I (after minute 10') Great for sports like badminton. One controler that choose the direction left/right and times the reaction-time. Timing is optional for me.... Found it also in Japan on internet www.onigoe.net But making one with flashing light with adjustable timing. Random left/right. Anyone?

I saw this video of a Japanese game show where players try to play a game of soccer with binoculars strapped to their heads: It made me think: what other kinds of games could you have, where your own perceptions were the challenge? Fisheye lenses over each eye? Periscopes? Let's hear some ideas; maybe we can come up with some cool, brand-new Instructable ideas.

You can see the games in person and see some footage of us playing them as well.If you're near any of these it should be worth the trip. Hey guys, I was on xbox live the other day and I saw an avatar of an xbox controller in an NBA style logo. It's where the center image is totally white, and there's a blue background on the left, and red background on the right. Then I thought to myself, "It would be awesome to have robot there in the middle.", so I did some paint editing, and came up with some different variations. Let me know what you guys think, because when I get some decent transfer paper, I might make one into a t-shirt. You guys edit them to your liking. I could have done a bit better, but didn't get very far in paint, and I'm not very coordinated in gimp. So if you guys make other variations, I'd love to see them, post a pic! Hope you guys like them!, Gunk on Floor
