Startup file to copy a picture

I have a school tablet that was forced upon us by my school. The IT department at my school insists that the computers stay 'uniform' by having the same background for desktop and log on etc. As the mischief making students that we are, we quickly tracked down the destination file and replaced the image with one of our own. But the IT found a way to stop this by changing the file back every few times we boot. So I was wondering if I could get some help with the coding for copying a file on boot. All help is appreciated.

Wanted: Electrical Engineer for Tech Startup

Good evening, We are two students who are currently working on our startup project where we are developing a product for the electronics industry. A large amount of research has been made and the theory/concept of our product is in place, but we are of course open to suggestions. As we are in the process of developing our first prototype, we are now actively seeking for an electrical engineer to join our team. As a part of our team, you would become a Co-founder and receive equity in the business entity. We found Instructables and thought that there might be an interest for these type of projects from its members. We are actively seeking a person with an electrical engineering background or similar, who is familiar with the process of prototyping, to join our team. The process of developing a first prototype will include evaluating and matching components, product specifications, product functionality and testing. The goal is a prototype that gives proof of concept with verifiable data that can be used while meeting with investors. Several investors have already been contacted and shown interest, including major angel investors from New York Angels etc.  We do not expect you to know everything, we value commitment and passion over 10+ years of experience and it is important to us that you share our vision and mission. All we require is that you have knowledge within electrical engineering and can bring something to table, especially in the prototyping process. We are located in Honolulu, Hawaii, but are open to working together with you remotely. Feel free to reach out if you feel that you can be committed to the project and seek a challenging co-founder tech related position! Best, Anna & Oliver startupanimalprotection@gmail.com

Feedback on Website

Hi there, I work for a startup called Swifto (swifto.com) and I was wondering if some people would be so kind as to answer a few questions about our site.  We are looking for initial impressions, so don't worry about going too deep.  This is all about the front page. Anyway, here are the questions.  Looking forward to hearing from you! 1. What do you think we do? 2. What aspect of the site confused you? 3. Does anything make you reluctant to use us? 4. What do you think of the design? 5. What would improve this site? 6. When was the last time you needed something urgently and what was it? P.S. - The black rectangle in the preview is actually a YouTube video.  If you want to watch it, go to our website: http://swifto.com

I have tried to run two file recovery programs get data back and restorer xp, but cannot find the missing inbox.dbx file. DO I have any chance of recovering this .dbx file or is it gone ?

I want to be able to manufacture my product/project myself and sell it for a low price so I thought that a good way to do this is to use lcd panels with driver boards for only hdmi or composite. How would I make a computer generate sound effects on startup?

Here's the deal... I build computers as part of a hobby, and I often advice my friends and family. My sister would like me to build her an ultimate PC which she would like to title "Zeus." Now despite the fact that Zeus is the father of all gods, we have a budget, and I am thinking of a build that has only moderate-high speed that way there is some money left over for the aesthetics. I already plan on having a black case, possibly painted by an artist if I can find one. with a clear side panel and UV or white LED lights.  What I would like to do in an ideal world is have the LEDs flash on startup (like lightning) and then remain lit and have a sound effect played (like the sound of thunder) I am complete stumped on the lights for the moment but for the sound effect I was trying to figure out if there would be a way to remove one of the sound generators from one of those "halmark cards" and just plug it into a fan connector on the mobo for power or something. (Some minor guess work soldier work there). But the problem with that would be how do reprogram the flash memory that plays the specific sound file to a different sound file.  I could be going the wrong way about all of this, but I just thought of this idea the other day. I welcome any constructive ideas...

How to fix blue screen? Answered

Hello I hope that all of you are fine. I recently bought a second hand HP Pavilion laptop from eBay… when I received it I came to know that there was a problem with the wifi reception… I intended it to repair myself… so I unscrewed the LCD and came to know that the connections for the wifi were broken, so I soldered them, while doing so small bead of molten soldering wore fell on the LCD, but only damaged the plastic protection and found no dead pixels when it was turned on after fixing it… the windows started up pretty good… got the wifi signals as well but after a minute or so… one or two pixel size dots appeared on the LCD and after that the blue screen appeared… I tried to restart the laptop again but the blue screen appeared every time restarted it. I tired to restore the laptop, fix the startup, also tried to run the safe mode, but everything was useless as I  got blue screen every time… the laptop manages to operate in safemode with command prompt only once and as I tried to restore the system the blue screen appeared again… further more it sometimes gets past the windows loading in the widows repair section but when it loads the resolution changes and I get a blue screen again… it also hanged while repairing setup for the windows was operating... So a lot of different hang ups… but 99% of the time I got blue screen on all the options available… I am attaching the blue screen that I usually get… it would be so nice of you if you could guide me and help me fix my computer. Please see the attached pic Kind Regards Raishikoh

Easiest low voltage cutoff (ensure minimum startup amperage for solar fan project.)

So, if I weren't so electronically derped, I'd know this. I've seen a few easy ideas for a 12v solar fan.  Basically stick a capacitor on it. However, I'm trying to work from a few low amperage panels (~100ma@12v total).  Since I want this to keep my tent feeling cooler once the sun comes up, I don't want to be stuck for an hour or two in the morning until the minimum amperage comes out of the panels. Anyone have an easy idea of what I could use with simple parts from scavenge boards or electronics teaching kits to make it have a low voltage cutoff (so that it won't go to the fan until it hits a minimum voltage on the capacitor (so that it has a minimum startup amperage))  That way, even in the morning, at least it would pulse on for small whiles even when it didn't have enough power.

Keep getting "invalid token" errors in C#

I've spent the last few days trying to learn the C# language, but Visual C# 2008 keeps saying "invalid token" when my syntax is perfectly fine. Here is my source code: Console.WriteLine("Initializing...");             string path = "startup";             private Hashtable text = new Hashtable();             text.Add("startup", "Please type a command. For a list of available commands, type .");             Console.WriteLine("Start up complete.");             while (true)             {                 string info = text[path].ToString();                 Console.WriteLine(info);                 string comm = Console.ReadLine();                 if (comm == "help")                 {                     Console.Writeline("...");                 }             } The main thing it keeps rejecting are the parentheses. I've even tried removing them, to no avail. I would vastly appreciate some help.

Damn you service pack three!

Well I finally gave in to the little pop-up box in the corner of the screen and installed Xp service pack three and it messed me about something shocking... A list of issues: - The quazi-vista theme I was running wet itself completely, now replaced with Zune theme - Firefox three got very upset and now has a mint theme because it had a bog standard theme that looked similar - The startup screen (login bit) and the login screen for password protection on knocking off screensaver is going mad, both do work but have some bizarre half breed theme on the go - The computer ticked and banged for ages - Multiple other weird ones - Oh startup programs decided to appear, suddenly I was inundated by FF, messenger, skype, media player and photoshop all opening on startup rather than just wireless G-utility... The odd three are on my taskbar list, some connection... Skype, I have no clue. Before the restart everything worked really oddly, I caught on that it was time because it refused me the ability to install programs and generally messed around. On the upside I hit a couple of sites and the combination of a less heavyweight theme and a ram optimiser majigger have got the computer running faster, now I'm just clawing back all my old settings. Slowly.

Need Help writing a Star Trek themed Arduino code

Hey Folks. I really need help  writing an arduino code to control a star trek model i'm working on. I don't really understand programming but I'd really like if anyone can help out. The code is supposed to use 2 momentary switches. When the main switch is pushed it will activate some leds in sequence, the last 2 will fade on one after the other in the same manner, this will be called the 'startup mode'. Then when the second momentary switch is pushed (while the main is on) it will 'switch modes' and the 2 leds that faded on one after the other initially will now fade off or ramp down at the exact same time then 2 more leds will fade on or 'ramp up' in their place at the exact same time. Finally, when the button is pushed again it will simply switch back. A video demo shows what im talking about with some very small differences. Any help would be appreciated! This video below shows what Im trying to do. Please see from time frame 0:35 to 0:54 which shows the 'start up sequence' described above. And one more showing the actual model i'll be working on and the startup sequence with the movie timing.

Attaching a motor to a bike? Answered

I have an old motor that I'd like to attach to a bike. There are a few things that concern me though that I was hoping some people could clear up for me: 1. I'm wondering if maybe the motor is a bit too powerful for a bike. The motor is a briggs and stratton 4-stroke 3 horsepower 127cc engine that runs at 3600 rpm. It originally came from an old edger. I've read of people fitting bikes with 70cc engines, but nothing this powerful. If it is too powerful, is there any way to rectify that problem? 2. As I see it, there are 2 ways the engine could be attached: by friction to the tires, either front or back, or by chain directly to the front gears.  Ideally, I'd like it attached via chain in this way creating a gearshifting system from the already existent gears on the bike. But can a bike's deraileur handle the power that an engine brings, or would it be too much? 3. Lastly, I plan on using a centrifugal clutch. However, I've had bad experiences with them in the past that made startup of the engines difficult. (mainly due to the fact that the clutch kept engaging even though the engine was off. You could see how during startup of a go-kart, this could be frustrating.) Do you think a new and properly selected clutch would behave that way? Thanks a ton in advance!

Computer not playing sound? Answered

Whenever I play music out of my computer, a thing keeps popping up called Realtek HD Manager saying that I've plugged something into the microphone socket! I've checked both of them (Front and back) and nothing is in them! So I disabled by going: Start > Run > 'msconfing' > Startup, then disabling it. It told me to restart my computer for the changes to work, and when I booted it up again it had no sound, so I turned it back on and rebooted the computer and it still dosen't work! And yes, I have checked all the obvious things like if the sound's muted. Thansk, Flannel UK

Computer question?--Solved--

I was cleaning up my computer the other day. In My Programs there was a folder called Common Files. When I opened it it had a lot of the same things under my programs and was very big in size. should I delete it? I don't want to hurt any programs that may rely on it. Another question, when I start up my computer it takes forever! (about 20 min.) but thats if I don't go into the process tab and end a few things. I know Doscan.exe hogs up a lot and I've been through the msconfig stuff. Yahoo messenger always starts up even though I have it un-checked for startup. I had some really bad trojans a while back and never reformatted. I took the offensive and got rid of them but I think they left a lot of "leftovers" in the registry and system folders. I also think thats whats making the startup slow. All of those viruses trying to launch but cant because their main files arent there. Of course once its up its speedy it sometimes takes a while to load things but once they're up they work flawlessly. Anybody know how to help? Please? --I guess my problem was not having enough RAM. And last night one of my friends gave me a gig and a new video card. Now it runs a whole lot better and the start up only takes about a tenth of the time it used to. Thanks to everyone who gave me some tips on what to do! Thanks, Rockerx

12 volt stabilizer/regulator (high current)

Hi, I need something that's able to regulate the car voltage that vary from 10.2 to 14.7 (with lower voltages at startup that's not relevant)  to a stable 12v with a tolerance of 1-2% at high current (need at least 35A but I don't want to full load it too often then 40A would be better). I saw something like a lm317 with some external transistor that's able to put out something like 15A but it required a 30V input and it was a too much low current. can you link me an image of a circuit that's able to do what I want?

Gateway laptop wont boot up, any ideas?

Hi, I have a Gateway M520 that will not boot up.  It runs XP.  The problem started when I was messing around on it, running multiple programs, and than the screen went blank and the power light started blinking steadily.  I tried restarting it, but after it got to the XP startup screen and started loading, the screen would go blank, and the power light would blink steadily.  I have reformatted the hard-drive 3 times with kill disk, tried booting up and installing the newest Ubuntu, and re-installing XP, but the screen always goes blank and the power light starts blinking steadily somewhere along the line.  Any help would be appreciated! :D

Hard Drive Failure Advice? Answered

Our family PC was on and running today, but when I left for a minute and came back; it was at a pure black screen that simply said "Hard Drive Failure" (similar to below, substituting my message in quotes). When I tried to reboot, it got stuck at the "Dell" startup screen, and wouldn't boot into the HDD from BIOS; although it did recognize it. Powered it off, left it for an hour; and it booted up. However, it did hit a "Windows Error Recovery" screen, and has been for a while now upon a boot up here and there. The computer is three years old. Should I ignore it, or replace it (the HDD) asap? My guts say better safe than sorry, but extra input couldn't hurt anyway.

How I had a computer turn on automatically when the BIOS did not support It

So, I just got a Kindle and want to automate the downloading of news feeds to it. I wanted a PC to turn on when I woke up in the morning, download the feeds, transfer them to my Kindle, then shut off. First problem: The spare PC I put together for this does not support automatic startup in the BIOS, and neither do any of the other motherboards I had. So, I thought of a way to use an alarm clock to turn it on. When the alarm clock would go off, it had a speaker that would produce a tone. This means it was switching power to the speaker on and off very quickly. This would not drive a relay directly, so I made a "filtering" circuit consisting of a few transistors and a capacitor. When the clock goes off, it charges the capacitor with a transistor. This buffers the on's and off's into a kind of pulsating DC current into the cap. The capacitor drains into another transistor, turning it on. This activates two relays at once. One presses the button to turn off the alarm, and the other turns on the computer. Since the alarm was turned off just a moment ago, the speaker does not sound again and it does not turn the computer back off. In the first picture, you see two sets of black and white wires going into the PC. One comes from the relay to short the power switch momentarily, and the other goes to the +5VSB on the power supply. This line provides +5v at low currents, even when the computer is off. The 5v powers the buffering circuit. That was the difficult part and took about 4 hours. Everything else was easy. When you get a Kindle, Amazon gives you a free email address you can use to send files to it. I installed Calibre (an awesome free e-book manager) on the PC and had it run on startup. I set it up to download the feeds then email them to the Kindle through WiFi. Turning the computer back off was easy as well. All you need to do it make a shortcut to "shutdown.exe -f -s -t x" and add it to the startup folder. The .exe is the Windows shutdown program. -f force-closes any open programs, -s specifies a shutdown (instead of restart, logout, etc) and -t x is how much time it will wait before shutting down, in seconds. I set it to a half-hour. So, now I can have my news feeds on my Kindle before I leave for school. :D Funny thing is, the whole alarm clock bit could have been avoided if I wasn't too lazy to just press the power switch when I woke up in the morning! XD

How to get ride of an Acer laptop popup window? Answered

I have an Acer 5534 laptop. An Acer popup window comes on for about 20 sec after log on or after coming out of a sleep mode. "Your Acer Product is Registered" also "click here for more information" bottom right of screen. If I click for more info it takes me to an Acer site like a bookmark. I have gone into msconfig, start up tab unchecked any thing that said Acer, no luck. Gone into another location to change the Acer settings to hide both desk top Icons and notifications for the task bar, no luck. Any ideas how to get this nuisance turned off. Acer iformed me to make the msconfig, startup change which did not work.

My First Project (Electronic Questions)

Good morning everyone. I'm new but very optimistic on the creation and programming in PIC and I would love Buddy aid for my project. Project Idea: Store 60 responses at most 1 character (núemro or letter), to questions such as: 1 = 2 = 3 = 60 = .... At the end of the data / informed responses would be sent to the PC via USB cable or WIFI for later imported by the PC system. My questions prior to starting the project would be as follows: I'm thinking of using PIC16F877A microchip and NOKIA5110 screen. A) Any other microship less expensive cases do this activity? B) The screen initially want to use this model because it allows me to print graphs on startup and letters larger than 16x2 screens. The following outline of the design for greater understanding.

Hardcore Hardware Hacking weekend in London

Just wanted to drop you guys a line about a workshop that i'm putting together on the 21-22nd of July in London for advanced Arduino users :)Lead by Massimo Banzi (Founder of Tinker.it) and Matt Biddulph (CTO of web startup Dopplr.com), they will be helping advanced Arduino users put together self-directed projects over the course of 2 days. We'll be giving out the latest tinkering tools, thanks to tinker.it and we have the pleasure of having Moritz Waldemeyer come by on the Sunday to present his work in hardware hacking and micro-controllers.I hope you'll come and join us, if you can't , we'll also be having drinks at a nearby pub on the Saturday evening. You can go find all the details on the workshop site : http://tinkerit.eventwax.com/h3-hardcore-hardware-hackingJoin us!
