Member stats

What is the point of the "Best answers %" ? With 220+ Best answers, and nearly 3900 replies to questions, my "BA %" is very low. Its a major disincentive to continuing to contribute, because I should go to great lengths not to help people further with their problems, after an initial answer, because it forces my statistics DOWN. I'd appreciate a more meaningful statistic related to my contribution here.

Launch it and stats

As you may have noticed, the stats are not working right now. This part of our system has been a near constant thorn in our side, and has led to a variety of problems and time-sinks for us. Since the current Launch It contest will rely on a pageviews measurement to award prizes, I wanted to let you know that we have a backup, external system (Google Analytics). So, the stats will not be correct for a day or two while we work double-time to fix them, but we've got an impartial third party to help us determine the results. Sorry for any frustration.

Instructables Stats 2008

This week we looked at the top 50 Commenters of 2008 and the top 50 Instructables of 2008. Today we're going to be looking at what times Instructables are published. To break this down, we're looking at the data in three different ways. The first shows, on average, how many Instructables are published for each day of the week in 2008. The second shows the totals for each month of 2008. Finally, we break it down for each of the 52 weeks (minus the last 2 days) of 2008.Check it out.Instructables by day of the weekInstructables by monthInstructables by week

Stats don't match

I just recently realized that the two kind of stats you can get for your instructables don't match. For example my "pram to kids trailer Instructable": Yesterday it gave me more than 1000 hits, when I checked via the stats button on the ibles page. But today as I rechecked via the stats tab on my account page with only this ible marked, it gave me only about 350 hits... It is not of big importance, and I would rather call it a glitch then a bug, but it would be nice to get correct stats on both ways...

View counter not matching with stats

Hello I guess i'm not the only one here who likes graphs and data. But If I compare the view count on an instructable and compare it with the stats view. The values don't match up not even close. For the screenshots please check this link because I've trouble uploading the pictures.

Stats pages still running?

Hey can anyone get the stats page to appear or has it been taken offline again? The only reason I ask is that out of nowhere one of my instructables has been speeding up in pageviews, overtaking one about sex and chasing the jet engine up as well but the referral URLs are all just the usual searches from google etc. Either way, anybody any notions on why people may have a sudden renewed interests in Zippos.

Can't see all of my stats

I can't see all of my stats, I can only see by total visitors. I can't see by instructable or by trafic source. When I want to do this it's loading for minutes and nothing happends. What should I do.

New instructables stats don't work

I noticed Instructables updated the stats with a newer version last night, but it does not work properly right now! Now I can't see where my traffic comes from as the tabs are not working! It keeps loading forever and wont ever show up. Windows 7 64-bit Chrome 45.0.2454.101 Steps to reproduce - Click on the stats icon in your instructable - go to the other tabs which are not summary. It will keep loading forever.

Favorite stats on your instructables tab

When you search for an instructable, you can see it's views and number of favorites. I personally tend to compete with myself on an instructable's stats and like seeing a new instructable beat out an old one. Right now, my Molotov Lantern is close to overtaking my Summer Cocktails in views.  It would be nice to see the # of favorites with the # of views and # of comments on your instructables tab.

Stats tab not working

I noticed the stats tab is no longer working. This is the last tab that is on your welcome page. It just says that the server  had a problem. It happens on all my devices so I believe it is not an issue with me but with the site. If my memory is correct I believe this has happened before. It is a nice feature to have so I hope it will be returning.

Referrers stats showing strange results

The stats window on an instructable show many cool things total views. views today etc.. but the Referrers sections never seems to add up to much... The number does not add up to the total view or even the total view today.. and it always seems that 70% of the referrers are blank? Is this a bug or is there some logic to this that I am missing?

Several questions

1) My 'ible is suddenly getting several hit a minute. With a past 'ible, a similar thing happened, and I looked at the stats, and determined that it was because A) My 'ible was featured/popular and B) my 'ible had been linked to on a high-traffic site. This is not the case with this 'ible, as far as I can tell. My 'ible is the "Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day" one. 2) Please explain the "stats" "referrers" for me. How are they ranked/chosen/listed? 3) I am getting a lot of referrers with addresses like this one: What is this? 4) I am not very computer savvy, please humor me. I am not complaining about the huge jump in hits, I am just looking for an explanation.

We’re excited to announce that just hit 30 million unique monthly users! Thank you so much for being a part of this fantastic, supportive, and inspiring community. You all are awesome. We are a community of makers, and we’re all striving to improve our skills. What makes Instructables special is that we’re also sharing what we learn, and in the process, we are becoming better teachers. The two things feed off of each other: improving skills and then teaching them. If I break down my build and explain it to someone else after I'm done, it gives me a chance to examine the how and why in my process that I might not have otherwise done. Creating an Instructable for a project is a chance to reflect and improve upon my design. All that is to say that I love the Instructables community, and I think it is making a positive difference in the world. We live in interesting times. As Instructables author Dominik Textor put it, “things you couldn’t find in a library in the past and had to travel far to learn can be learnt now in moments.” Instructables is a repository for a lot of knowledge, and it is growing every day. I can’t wait to see what you make next!

Stats Suggestion

Are there any plans to update the "launch stats" feature?  It looks like the default is your top five based off total views even though these projects could be years old.  I know you can click on any project to see current stats but that isn't very convenient.  I guess I'm looking for something similar to youtube analytics (overview and realtime).

Stats still not working right -- can't change calendar range

With last night's update, Rachel indicated that the Stats tab was "fixed" (no details).  Right now, I see that I can switch from a combined view to a per-I'ble breakdown, but I cannot change the time period displayed.  If I switch the radio button to 3-months or 1-year, the little wheel spins, but the display is not changed.

Feature Request/Revival

The way the stats tab on instructables used to work for search URLs was messier than the current iteration but including the full URL was good in one way, it let you know what people searched to get to your instructable.  I'm not mad for SEO or going mad with keywords, however as a matter of curiosity and to see if people meant to find your instructable with the search or if it just ended up being relevant is very interesting.  With the current stats function is there any way to get at those URLs, or even just the search terms? Was it even a change on instructables end?  I'm wondering because I find I do find use in it along with the idle curiosity.  Insert random library picture...

problem getting stats to update

When I click on the stats tab on my 'you' page, I get a graph for all visitors for the checked instructables. When I try to change something in the options eg. Changing it to By Instructable , and hit the Update Chart button, I get a message saying  Crunching numbers! This may take up to 30 seconds. But it doesn’t do anything but sit and spin.  It does this no matter what I’m trying to do, be it changing something in the options or trying to change what instructables to include or changing the time frame to look at. I’ve had this problem for some time now, although the sitting and spinning is new, up until a few days ago, when I clicked the Update Chart button, it would spin for a few seconds then a message would flash across the bottom of the page (something about not being able to get data? – not sure exactly as it flashes up and is gone so quickly) then the page would just look as if I hadn’t done anything – no changes and no sign of something trying to work.

Referrers data

I have what I believe is a bug, followed by a question, and a suggestion (or two). First, the bug: When viewing the stats on any of my Instructables, I see something like the attached picture, where there are blanks for some of the referrers. That can't be right... Either that or I'm getting referrals from the NSA... I'm apparently not the only person with this issue, but I haven't seen an explanation for it. It occurs for me across multiple browsers and operating systems. My question is why don't the number of referrers add up to my total views (e.g. 41+40+15+9+8+1 = 114, not 203)? Is this because the other 89 views are coming from inside Instructables? My first suggestion is that the stats window could use a bit of explanation for people who aren't familiar with what referrals might mean. It would be nice to have mouse-over explanations or something. My other suggestion is that I would love more detailed stats information. It would be really neat to see how people are finding my Instructables internally to the site (e.g. was it a link or a search, and if it was a search, what were the search terms?). it would also be nice to be able to see precise referral links from external referrers. Thanks for making this neat data available. I hope that the solution to this bug is quick and easy!

I'm glad to see the referrers back

Today I noticed the 'graph' button in the sidebar of my I'bles, next to the words 'About this Instructable'. It shows some (maybe all?) of the old statistics that went missing with the latest site changeover. I'm happy to see that these have been added back and I like the current incarnation. So, thanks! It's entirely possible that I'm the last person to notice this. In that case, sorry and feel free to point and laugh.

Author stats and some other fixes

The author stats are back and are updated daily. See how many people have read your Instructable today, this month, and in total. Look for the stats in the upper left of your Instructables. With the author stats working again, you can sort the Instructables by pageviews. This can give you a sense of the popularity of various projects. Among other small fixes, we've found and removed the main culprit in the SQL deadlock issue. I haven't seen one in a few days, so we're cautiously declaring success. If you try to post a comment or save a step of an Instructable and get an SQL deadlock, send me an email. More fun stuff and fixes are on the way. Thanks for sharing your awesome projects and being patient while we grow.

Suggestion To Upgrade STATS Display

Glad to see STATS tab back in the info box that appears for all instructables!  Did anyone else miss it?  Wouldn't it be great if the "daily views" could be placed on the front page of this box?  Instead of making us click one more time, an instant display would be an improvement, IMHO. Check it out.

Why is the Stats "Total Views" wildly different when logged in vs. logged out?

I see dramatically different "total views" when logged in and not logged in. Why the difference? Which is correct? 614 logged out 3513 logged in It doesn't seem to change when I repeatedly open the instructable, so it doesn't appear to be counting my hits.

Launch stats graph doesn't match instructables views

Hi, I noticed that the graph displayed under the launch stats does't match the number of views of my instructables. I included the most obvious example from an instructable that has 2.4K views. As you can see, the instructable was added in November and only the first few days are displayed in the graph and it stopped working afterwards, even though the number of views keeps increasing. The rest of my instructables also have a huge gap between the number of views and the data presented in the graph. Is it a bug from my account or a general problem that affects everyone? Thanks for your reply,

When I view my own instructable pages, does it count toward my total views?

I'm new to this site, but I have posted 2 instructables. I was just wondering if the total view count that is displayed under Stats includes the times when I view my own instructables. If so, that's kind of sad (ha ha!) because I've clicked on my own pages a lot.   Thanks, Lauren

User statistics report -- breakdown by traffic source is buggy

Here's the second bug I've found with the resurrected user statistics report (/you/stats/).  If you choose the option "By Traffic Source", the y-axis scale and detailed numbers get really weird. The first plot below shows the inclusive last-3-months data for my top five I'bles, while the second shows the same data broken down by traffic source. As you can see, the data points are all at 62 and 125 (from which I guess that the first is actually 62.5 :-). I think what's happened is that the data has gotten multiplied by 500/8 before plotting.
