Hi, I wrote a tutorial a few years ago and popped it on youtube with a link to download the supporting files. It looks like one of the instructable 'authors' has taken my code, complete with stupid comments and popped it on here as their own work. I'm not worried about someone building on top of what I made but they appear to be offering little in the way of help to the people asking questions about the instructable and asking for people to vote for them in a challenge? Taking it, improving it and citing the source would be fine, or even taking it and citing the source but this seems to be straight out 'here's some code I wrote' Is there a way to lodge a complaint about this sort of stuff other than emailing info@ Thanks

This Instructable, as Ranie-K pointed out, is an exact copy of this by someone else on another site (who wrote it at an earlier date). While the author did credit the original author they didn't bother to take their own pictures or write their own instructions. They copied the original author's exact instructions and even used the original author's photos. The same is true of their other Instructable, which seems to be copied from here. This doesn't seem fair.

I know milk crates are a really sturdy container and popular for a lot of "green" projects. The problem is that they're stolen. They belong to the dairy whose name is printed on the sides. Dairies reuse these crates. They don't discard them, contrary to popular belief. Reusing them would be green if they were discarded. Sadly, dairies must keep replacing their stolen milk crates. That means more resources used. The milk crates outside stores aren't being thrown away; they're awaiting pickup from the dairy driver. Even damaged crates belong to the dairies. They send them to be repaired and continue to use them. http://www.gotmilkcrates.com/myths-and-misuse.html

I recently acquired a knife in poor condition. It is a Frost Cutlery Flying Falcon lock back. The thumb catch knob is missing and I was wondering if any one had an idea to replace it. Also, I was wondering if anyone had any info on stainless rostfrei.

Mouse Mouse was last seen on tour with us at Austin's SXSW earlier this week. He made lots of friends at Dorkbot on Saturday, but someone walked off with him while we were setting up at Sunday's PopSci party! Did he go on walkabout, join a punk band, or leave with a cute female Mouse Mouse? We hope so, but suspect he was simply abducted and can't contact us for help. If you have any information, please let us know! No kidding, I only made one1 and would really like to have him back. Drop me a note if you've got any news on his whereabouts. We'll take him back, no questions asked.1Yes, I can and will make another, but it's my art project, and therefore unique. (You may know how to make more children, but still want to keep the ones you've made.)

If you have msn and you are worried about someone stealing your password, do the following things: >Don't give out your alternate email or its password >Don't give out your hotmail password (Duh) >Try not to let too many people know that you have a hotmail account >NEVER tick remember me on this computer when signing in >NEVER tick remember my password EVER (that's how most passwords get stolen) If you do happen to have your password stolen, send the hotmail administration email requesting your password.

My car stereo was recently stolen.. Bummer. Here is my idea; I am tired of putting stereos in my car only to have them stolen. I don't want to buy another CD player w/ an aux in input for my mp3 player, since I don't really play cd's anyways. What I want to do is install just an aux input line to my car speakers and mount that easily in the empty hole. Is that possible? Do you somehow need to power the speakers? How do you go about doing that w/out buying a new stereo? My main goal is 1)to put something there that will run the sound from the MP3 player 2)not need a stereo to do it. 3)do this so no one would think it is something they could steal and profit from. HELP! :)

Lateral Thinker forwarded this one to me and I thought it would be of general interest. Two people suspected of stealing up to 1000 pieces of luggage from baggage claim carousels at a US airport have been arrested by police who found piles of the stolen bags strewn throughout their home. There were so many suitcases that Phoenix police could only give a rough estimate of their number... Go here for the 'rest of the story'...

Ok, picture the scene, you use your own laptop for work, and after some time, decide you need a better job, and so start looking. Some people find out you are looking and your company TAKES (pilfers, steals, lifts....) your laptop and erases the HD ! WOW, did they ever pay for THAT little blunder.....go here for the FULL story...

I need some help. I don't think this person did this Instructable legit. This person's "Instructable" can be seen HERE. Here are links to the original creators: Here, here, here, and this one I don't know exactly who made them, but the original images are here. (Scroll down to see.) I am kinda mad right now since I thought he did these legit at first, but then figured out he didn't. Anyhoo I hope people don't believe that he is the actual creator. -James

There are various projects I have come across that use stolen stuff. By posting them you are supporting theft. Example chair from shopping cart. Those are not cheap to buy for the stores they are stolen from. Road sign furniture. Unless you have a contact with the road crew for old signs, where do you think the signs come from. There are others, but you get the idea. If you what to be a respected site, do not post the work of thieves. Later Zipperboy aka adventureboy7 etc.

I noticed that somebody has stolen this instructable, but the author hasn't done anything on instructables since 2006. The stolen version has different photos, but near word for word duplication. Anyone have a suggestion on what can be done about these types of situations?http://lab.helixated.com/montblanc-g2-pen/

Insurance. Why bother paying for it? People say that by paying for insurance, you are protected and don't have to pay so much for repairs if something happens. Wrong. Insurance companies do everything they can to not pay people. For example, in light of our recent burglary, mom went down to the insurance company we signed with to make a claim and get some money back. However, we didn't get a single cent back due to a $1,000 deductible that applies to each individual item stolen. Since none of the items stolen cost over $1,000, they didn't give us anything. What really stinks is that when we signed up for their program, they had a $500 deductible, which applied to the total cost of everything stolen. They basically jacked up their deductible, without notice to us. As for Auto Insurance: www.ninjapirate.com/article/deadrat

Again How To Hi all, not sure if this is really the correct place to be raising this (and can’t seem to find it mentioned elsewhere), but a new website called again how to has appeared aggregating content and reposting on their site, along the lines of ehow. It does appear to be pulling a hell of a lot of Instructables up on it, as well as off peoples personal sites (how I have picked up). I hope the Instructables legal team can have a look at this. Well i do not now how & where to present this issue(not my issue). It is something i came across while browsing new instructables as usual. A person copied someone else's Instructable(He copied Everything).Just to enter a Contest . Everything same except the title Here is a link to both of them The original Instructable:- https://www.instructables.com/id/Portable-Speaker-1/#intro The Copied one:- (He think's that the people here are fool's) https://www.instructables.com/id/Battery-Powered-Portable-Amplifier/ The person who copied the instructable will be reaping the benifit of Pro membership(for featured instructable),which he does not deserve.

What is one to do if they start a collaboration and someone else steals it out from under them and publishes it as their own Instructable? The Colaboration system is too flawed and I will never consider working on projects publicly again. They should be hidden from view of all but members of the collaboration itself. I had a project titled USB UPS and opened it for collaboration. A user (neelandan) saw it, copied the idea, threw together amateurish circuits and published the parts to it as his own. I had planned on publishing a very professional step-by-step for a usable project. Now the idea is moot since it's already been published.

I posted the first answer to a question (this one, for reference). The original poster replied to my answer, and I got an email notification saying "You have 1 new answer to a question you asked!"I thought "that's a bit weird", replied to the reply, and got another message from Robot saying "People are answering your question! You have 1 new answers." and feeding me back my own answer. It's not exactly a fatal bug for me, but I couldn't help wondering if fwjs28, who was meant to be getting these notifications, actually wasn't, which would be a wee bit more serious.

I am using a mobile phone tracker site to track my car in case it is stolen. I wanted to adapt the old mobile phone by stripping it down to essentials to ensure that the sim signal was still running but there was no need for the display / keyboard. Is there an instructable or website that offers advice on how to do that? The phones are old nokia phones so not worried if they get trashed.

Who should we be reporting stolen content to? IE. having it removed for review It's not MY content but I won't just watch and ignore while other people submit material ripped off from others. It shouldn't require a request from the owner for something do be done when it's so obvious. Step up and confront it. At least add something to the flag menu.

My daughter is going into high school and has had her scientific calculator stolen for three years in a row at school. These are pricey, running from $30-$40 each. Besides that, all the other things in her pencil bag, like compasses, triangles, pens, mechanical pencils. Frankly, I'm sick of my daughter not being prepared for class and spending money for the reprobates to just steal it. Is there any way to tag her calculator economically to track it down?

I'm not one to promote or advocate a lot of products but this is pretty cool. I even know of one person who got their iPhone back after it was stolen. It's not cheap but it seems to work, catch criminals and it's still cheaper than the replacement cost of getting new stuff. I haven't checked yet but I'm guessing it'd also get you a break on your insurance if you insure your gear. Might be enough to pay for the service. www.gadgettrak.com/

My troop used to have this great reflector oven, that was good for making brownies, cookies, cakes, etc. But somehow, it has been stolen/lost/misplaced/destroyed, and we no longer have it anymore. After looking at the internet for a while, I haven't found any good how to's for making a reflector oven, so maybe one of you engineers who loves camping and good food could make an 'ible on how to make a Reflector Oven. After 10 minutes later and the steam clearing away two of the men find that the other is dead. WHO KILLED THE MAN. After somebody has given me the answer I will post the correct answer in a edit of this forum. Good luck.

So I got an xbox 360 elite for Christmas. I set up my xbox live account and already have 75 gamerscore lol. My xbox 360 gamertag is "InvariantMedal". I'm not a serious player, but I am decent at games when I master their controls. I'll post pictures of my xbox setup in my den later on. Maybe tomorrow. What's your setup look like? *EDIT- 3/18/10* Don't expect to see me on live for a while. Some asshole broke into my house and stole my 360 and other game consoles. I did manage to get 2615 gamerscore before my 360 got stolen.

This is so intriguing to me. A NYC based artist, Kacie Kinzer, did a very interesting social experiment. She wondered if a human-like creature could traverse the sidewalks of New York City, and perhaps provide insight into human interaction and urban connectivity. So she built robots. Naturally. The artist built small robots (which were rather errily similar looking to our robot!), attached a white flag to the top stating the its destination, and let them loose. The results were surprising - not a single robot was crushed, chomped, stolen, lost or broken. All the "tweenbots", as their creator dubbed them, safely reached their destinations with the help of kindhearted citygoers.Link

I stumbled upon a go kart motor in my shed that my grandfather was going to use to make a go kart. It was supposed to be built when i was 12. I'm 21 now. My grandfather has passed on. The go kart frame was stolen. I want to put this motor to good use. The problem is that I don't know what to build to use it. I want to build something more than a go kart. if i wanted to go for a drive i would just take my car. Lol :P Any suggestions? Motorbike? Atv with caterpillar tracks? Help me decide and I will post full instructable!

It's good to learn about the best way to keep your ride secure. The only time I've had anything stolen from my bike in several years in San Francisco was because I was lazy and didn't lock up my wheels with a cable. I figured that they were crappy wheels and weren't worth much, but he replacement cost for a new set sucked and they never rode as well as the first. Live and learn.Speaking of which, here are some great locking mistakes that mostly apply to cars. I wonder where these are from because I've never seen anyone do stuff like this in the States ever. 15 Strange Moments In Anti-Theftvia Neatorama

Hey there I am a dude who is just trying to find a car, I recently had stolen and it went through a chop shop. The insurance company will only settle to give me a piece of crap settlement fund, so in other words I need a vehicle (preferably running). I live in the central Texas area, and would love some help here because I need a vehicle to get to work and school to pay my bills. Please PM me if you have any ideas or can offer any help on the subject. I only have a few hundred dollars I can spend (the insurance settlement). I don't mind doing a bit of work cosmetically, or even functionally as long as it wont cost me a fortune to fix up front. Thank you. AB

We're situated in Tanzania on a cereals farm. Needless to say - plenty of empty plastic chemical containers, creating massive headaches when it comes to destroying it. Does anyone have some pointers as to how we can do re-cycling on the farm - keeping in mind we're about 800km (500miles) due west from Dar-es-Salaam. We'd like to make some 5-7 mm sheeting out of the stuff to be used on the farm - to replace stolen sheet-metal water gates used for regulating water flow into rice paddies. Any sparks out there to light our fire? Kind regards Hendrik Neethling Kapunga Rice Project Limited (KRPL) Tanzania Mail: firstname.lastname@example.org Land: +255 752 44 5572 Cell: +255 768 299 813

In 195 days and six hours, Mark Beaumont rode around the world on a bicycle, totally destroying the previous record of 276 days. Some data: - He ate 6,000 calories a day. Since he's a vegetarian, most of that was plant-based, but he did eat some meat to keep his energy up. - His bike was worth almost $5,000 - He carried 176 pounds of gear, including a tent and a video camera to keep fans updated - He had gear stolen once by crack addicts in a motel - He hopes to have raised 18,000 pounds for charity. - Scariest bit was riding in Istanbul, a city of 15 million. - He rode through 20 countries - Was knocked off his bike once by a driver who ran a red light. linkvia treehugger

Not sure where this should go but I've looked and couldn't find anywhere more suited. I'd like to report two user's as I believe they are either the same person or one has stolen from the other. The specific intsructables I am on about are here:https://www.instructables.com/id/LED_light_12/?ALLSTEPShttps://www.instructables.com/id/LED_Light_11/?ALLSTEPSYou will notice they both have the same idea, as well as the reel of blue tape is the same and so is the surface on which the photos were taken, and of course they were both submitted on the same day. I flagged both of them as spam (now I think about it maybe 'inappropriate' would have been more appropriate), but I'm sure this will just be ignored once whoever checks them find nowt wrong with the individual instructables (I don't think just one person would look through them all).Is there perhaps a moderator or admin that I can send a message to?

Hello Instructables community!I have a laptop and it has been driving me crazy recently!Specifically the graphics card has been driving me crazy, its an integrated mobile Intel(R) 965 express chipset family chip running at 470mhz with 256mb of graphics ram ("stolen" from the normal ram and controlled by the OS) I was wondering if anybody knows of a program that is capable of overclocking it, I have tried rivatuner and power strip with no luck, rivatuner didn't even recognize the card and power strip wouldn't let me change the clocks.I want to make sure that I can change the clocks before I upgrade the ram.BTW: the specs on the computer are as follows:Compaq Prescario c700t CTOIntel Celeron @ 1.7ghz1 GB of shared system and graphics ram (soon to be upgraded)80GB SATA toshiba hard driveWindows Vista Home Basic sp2

I am hopefully going to be designing an after school program for the spring semester. the age group is potentially 5- 11. but could be, if i so choose, only 9-11. I am trying to create a program that is exciting, fun, educational and of course, relatively cheap. The first idea i have is to build a model wind tunnel, then have the students design and build pinewood racers (with assistance of course), then we can test the drag in the wind tunnel and make adjustments, then race them. Giving the students the oppertunity to learn a little about wood working and also aerodynamics. I am also looking for suggestions for other projects that would meet the criteria of fun, educational and inexpensive. so if anyone has any ideas at all please feel free to share them. also if anyone is intereted in persuing the above project i am happy to supply links, as they are all ideas i have stolen. thank you Alec

I was recently sent this update from UC Berkeley and Indiana University, and thought I would pass it along. I have never had a brush with the "Dark Side" of crafting they describe here. Have you? Do you sew clothes, print posters, or shop for craft supplies only to realize your craft has negative effects, e.g., on the consumer or society at-large, morally, socially, and/or legally? Do you see a “dark side” to craft? If so, UC Berkeley and Indiana University researchers conducting a research project on handcraft and computing would love to talk to you. We will conduct interviews by instant message, email, phone, or in person within the next few months. To help us with our research, please email Daniela at email@example.com, Jeff at firstname.lastname@example.org, or Shaowen at email@example.com. image blatantly stolen from pirateluv which just has so many other cool things on it too.

Unless i constrain myself this will sound like one of Gordon Ramsays shows... ;-) Fu blo he. It's fung time to do something about those bloo videos that stu people are carpet bombing Instructables with. ! Please limit the possibility of posting an unlimited amount of instructables/slideshows/videos per 24 hour period. One (1) per 24 hours are quite enough for anyone that are actually doing something good and not just carpet bombing/spamming crappy videos from Metacafe to get some money. As a temporary solution maybe just banning Metacafe-videos would help remove those obnoxious spammers. Or can you also get payed by videos on Youtube/Google? Talking in friendly manner to these guys doesn't really help. It only fixes (possibly) the problem with one guy, but there will just come more and more of them all the time. (The image of Gordon is stolen from telegraph.co.uk - sorry about that...)

School sucks right now, have an A,B,C,& D, I'm stressed about that. But I come home today and I check my bank online and see that someone's used my debit card # to purchase $300 worth of soccer jerseys (WTF? SRSLY). SO I immediately call the bank (india) and tell them, guess what, since it's only pending they can't do anything, even though I alerted them, I have to wait until the money is stolen out of my account to file a fraud dispute, ridiculous. At least, I limit my liability to $50 by reporting it within two days (per FTC.gov), but it's a damned ass backward way to do it. BTW the banks solution, call the merchant, sigh, well their 800 number rang and rang, the other contact number went to voice mail, so they got a long detailed message. And of course, I cancelled my card, not at the banks suggestion. I has bad feeling about what a PITA this is going to turn into...

At the moment, it's just a design student's prototype, but I think this ridable cardboard bike has real legs, er, wheels.Built from a single sheet of industrial-strength hexacomb card, the frame should cost as little as 3GBP ($6), and the tiny proportion of metal parts means the bike has a projected selling price of 15GBP (about $30). For that, you get a bike that will survive about 6 months of daily commuting, or a lifetime of the kind of riding most people do.The designer, 21 year-old Phil Bridge, predicts the design will cut bike crime by simply being too cheap to be worth pinching (currently, a bike is stolen and abandoned every 71 seconds in the UK). It also provides an opportunity for sponsorship:"The idea was that it would be a sponsorship from a company who would produce these and get some advertising it. And once you've used it, you'd return it they'd give you another one, they'd take all the metal components out and put them into a new frame and the old frame would go back to the manufacturer."BBC Manchester articleBBC South Yorkshire article

Alright, I recently purchased a cheap silicone case for my new iPod, and it doesn't have the non-slip feature that the one on my old iPod (which got stolen) had. I really liked that, since it didn't slide around on the seat next to me while driving, so I could reach over and change the song without endangering myself and others. I was thinking of making an instructable on making any kind of case non-slip by adding a glue- or caulk-like silicone to the back of the case that can come in (or at least be modified to be ) any color. My plan is to give the old Tron-like lines to the case, to add non-slip functionality, but also to look cool (and cyberpunk). My question is, what kind of silicone (or like substance) would that be possible with? I'm assuming it would be able to last the life of the iPod, because a temporary mod (like perhaps one using creepy-crawlers mix or something of that sort would seem to be) would just not be practical.

Uh this is annoying after last year when there were attacks on cyclists made by motorists I've been thinking it better not happen again this year, well my fears turn out to be well founded, just as our bike month kicks off so does the war on cyclists...Coming down the hill towards work, going well over the posted speed limit of 30mph a boy racer in a vauxhall corsa boxed me in and tried to run me in to parked cars, i managed to get in front of him and out from behind the parked cars, he then went on the wrong side of the road and overtook me, only to try and brake check me, I was absolutely incensed he was looking me right in the eye through the rear view mirror, He got away at the junction at the bottom of the hill because the light was green and he was going straight on, I was going to take out his wingmirror but nay he didn't stop, next time I see the car I'll get his liscence plate numbers, then report his car as stolen... because he'd get off scott free for attacking me like that, despite having endangered my life and broken the speed limit by a lot more than I did...

Well I'm getting a new camera and have come to the choosing part, basically the upper limit is £180 and I'm torn between two but also looking for other suggestions. It's to replace my fuji finepix S5600 that was stolen. my requirements are as so: *Min 10x optical zoom *Needs to have shutter speed adjustment of at least 15 seconds down to 1/2000th of a second *A decent amount of megapixels (6 or more) *Full aperture adjustments would be nice but up to F8.0 is acceptable *Built in flash *Preferably uses standard batteries like AA, unless it's canon, got a load of them already I've already Seen two I like, being most familiar with Fuji and canon drew me towards them. The Finepix S1000FD is the evolution of my older camera and the controls remain the same for the most part, Has 12x zoom which is better and 10 megapixels resolution... The canon SX100 is cheaper and only has 10x zoom, it does do slightly faster shutter speeds but it's a marginal difference, it also includes optical image stabilisation which would be nice, the fuji has no mention of this... Any other suggestions for potential cameras are very welcome, please help me choose between these two or others...
