Beer Mat Collectors?

Does anyone else on instructables collect beer mats? I just started as I love ale and have seen loads of cool designs. I thought I'd post to see if anyone else on here collects and would like to swap some of their duplicates for some of mine?

Swap Meat

I just ran across this thing:http://www.coudal.com/swapmeat/You send them something you made, and they send you something they made. I always have stuff I made that for various reasons I don't want to keep - it's not quite up to my tweaky-high quality standards, or I changed my mind about the color, or it doesn't fit and I don't feel like working on it any more.Normally I would try this first and report my experiences, but since the deadline is Aug 31, I might not have time to ship and receive AND write up! So there it is, not a recommendation but a Mere link. I'll comment here once I've sent them something and again if I get anything back. I plan to send them a Tribble.Has anyone heard of this? Did you send anything? Did you get anything back?

Member gift exchange?

I just heard about imgr doing sort of a secret Santa type gift exchange for valentines day and thought that was a super cool idea. While we're probably too late for v day, maybe that would be a fun thing to put together for a "spring cleaning" maker trade. There's a lot of amazing talent on this site and I bet some of us could definitely stand to clear our workbenches of surplus or unsold projects. Each person would get the name and address of another member and send something they make, and receive something from a different person in return. I'm happy to help organize it, but I'm not sure about the best way to assign gifts since we can't just draw names out of a hat. Suggestions? And do we divide it by country so nobody has to deal with international postage, or leave it wide open? I welcome ideas and definitely would like to gauge interest.

Mcbook LCD swap for 12inch

I am working on converting my macbook into a tablet PC, and I have everything pretty much figured out but...I was wondering if there is a way, or better yet, how i could swap the 13inch LCD with a smaller LCD.I have the LCD from a 12inch powerbook g4 on hand, and would like to use it instead of the standard 13inch screen. This will allow me more room to relocate things inside the tablet, as well as allow better fitting for everything. It will also help with the purchase of the touch screen as most touch panels I find are 12 or 15 inch.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Swap: my tea envelopes for ... surprise me!

I'm offering a big fat bag full of tea envelopes to someone who is willing to send me... something fun. Make me an offer and see if I'll bite. I probably will. I'm in the Netherlands, but this offer is international. The envelopes are empty: there is no tea included in this offer. Many people like to use these colourful envelopes to make stuff, like cards. The picture is only a sample. The envelope you'll be getting will really be fat. There will be different tea brands present, and different flavours, but also many of the same brand and flavour so you can make a pattern. You'll find mainly Dutch and German brands. Any takers?

GIFT SWAP =D

My skills include: computer OS (aka Ubuntu), misc. little crafts, and a basic knowledge of woodworking, paracord, and electronics. Here is a link to my featured Instructable What I'd like to make for someone: maybe a kool lookin' clock, from an instructable on this site =D I'd be willing to make this size gift package for someone (choose all that apply): (S,M,L): I will make a smallish medium object I'd be willing to receive a smaller or larger size gift package from someone than the one I make for someone else: sure! What I like: electronics, computer stuff, gadgets, soccer, steam plunk, jewelry (necklaces/bracelets), Antique/refurbished items. What I don't like: taxidermy, food items, lawn gnomes, pink/girly items I absolutely can't have: alcohol, and I cannot have scallops due to allergies, but I doubt that is anyone's gift idea ;) Type of thing I'd love to receive: I would like if it fits into one of my interests categories, or a surprise would be nice! Would you be willing to ship to an address outside your own country? Only if absolutely necessary. Confirm that are at least 18 years old or, if not, that you have the approval of a parent or guardian: yessiree bob!

Electronic Swap Program -- Intrest Poll

Muff and I are in t3h (hehe) process of trading a few parts, he sent me some stuff I needed, I'm going to send him some stuff that he'll need.Anyway, it brought up an idea: An Electronic Swap Program! It'd work where you'd send stuff that you have tons of to someone, and they'd send you stuff they have. This is really a great way to get stuff you need -- and the parts end up being cheaper, since you try to send parts that you have in bulk. (Its cheaper to buy in 1K quanities than 1)I'm just trying to see if theres interest. The plan, ATM, would be something like this:Send parts and $2** to me I use $2** to send you a mix of what people, and myself, have donated. You get parts and are happy. (happy or die!)**Outside of USA: I'd probably have you guys go online to our postal service's site, and buy the postage for me, and send it to me to print out. Or just send me more monies.(You end up paying postage both ways)$2 is just a guess on how much it'd cost. Muff's package to me cost $1.14 -- so $2 seems about right. If you're interested, or have a suggestion, lemme know!

GPS question: Swapping a SirfstarII chipset with a SirfstarIII chipset

Does anyone know if it's possible to swap out a GPS chipset with a different one? I have a broken GPS with a SirfstarIII chipset, and I also have a Pharos iGPS-360. The Pharos uses a sirfstarII chipset, which really blows. So is it possible to swap out the SiftstarII with the Sirfstar III?

Upgrading the Charging Capabilities of an Android

I would like to know how difficult it would be to swap out the charging port on an S4 for the new hyper charging ports on the new Droid Turbo. I know there is not a lot of free space with in the cell for mods. And I am assuming that the hyper charger is smaller. That being said the tools for a repair swap out do not seem that difficult to master. What else would be needed to make this project successful, a power converter? Basically I want to see if its possible to take the outdated cells people would normally throw away or trade and mod them into something of desire for a cheaper price. Thank you for your time Instructable Community

New/swapped columns in Instructables -- restored

On Monday 8 Feb 2010, I wrote: I'm not sure that I like the swapped page layout -- with the author info, staff feature options, and so forth on the left side.  Since English is read left-to-right, this means that administrative info is given "top billing", while the actual Instructable content is relegated to second place.  It also means that some of that content is cut off of the viewer's display, depending on how they have chosen to size their browser window.  The fact that I'bles makes assumptions about browser size and shape is, of course, wrong in the first place, but the new layout makes that wrongness even more obvious to the casual user. UPDATE:  Tuesday morning, 9 Feb 2010, the administrative info is back on the right side of the page.

1381-J replacement for Miller Solar Engine?

I know BEAM robotics have fallen out of style a bit, but I hope someone is still mucking about with them because they are super cool.  I am working on a Miller Solar Engine and trying to find a replacement for the 1381-J voltage trigger. I tried out the DS1817. It was recommended to me by one the technicians at Digi-Key as a replacement for the MN1381-J and on paper it looks like a good swap, but in the circuit it is just not resetting once the voltage drops.  I have it breadboarded and I can stick the 1381 in it and it works perfectly.  When swapped with the DS1817 it triggers once the top voltage is reached, but then never resets (it just drains forever.)  I double-checked the component type to make sure it was just not a miss shipment of the wrong item, but it checks out.  And I tried swapping the DS1817 component out thinking that I just had a dud (or 5) but it does not seem to help.  Any thoughts? Here are the data sheets on the 2 items. http://datasheets.maximintegrated.com/en/ds/DS1817.pdf http://www.semicon.panasonic.co.jp/ds4/SAG00003CEM_discon.pdf one bit of weirdness I already figured out is that the 1381 looks like it has a different 1-2-3 pin out sequence at the top of the PDF but it turns out it does not at the bottom.

Spell checker

I was going to put this in bugs, but its really a feature request.  Feedback I guess? Does the WYSIWYG editor support custom dictionary additions?  It would be nice if it didn't attempt to correct the name of the website. It would also be nice if I could swap it to British English, but I'm used to being second guessed now! Thanks

Combichrist Shrunken Heads quote.

Does anyone know where the quote from the Combichrist song Shrunken Heads For All Occasions comes from? If you haven't heard the song, there is a voice saying "Now, shrunken heads for all occasions, collect 'em, swap 'em, give 'em to your witchdoctor friends". I've tried searching for it, but with no luck whatsoever.

Is there a way to make a small motorized greeting card opener ?

A friend wants to be able, at swap meets, to display greeting cards as people pass by, but in a novel way. That is, have a card slowly open, stay open for maybe 15 seconds, then slowly close. And repeat, ad infinitum. Is this doable with cheap parts, or maybe a disco ball motor ? Thanks in advance ! Alan, Quantum Leap Unlimited Onward, Upward

One-handed keyboard mod

I saw this on the MAKE Magazine blog.  A programmer (who actually knows how to bend metal :-) ) did a homebrew keyboard modification to allow himself to touchtype single-handedly after some left arm surgery.  Using his left thumb, he can hot-swap all of the keys on the left side over to the right and touch type with only his right hand. Read the whole story, including some guidance on construction, on Daughtrey.

Which Direction Does She Spin?

Check out the optical illusion below. Since the figure is totally black, there's no depth- you can see her spinning either clockwise or counter-clockwise. Which way do you see it first? Try reversing the spin direction- moving your finger in a circular motion at the rate of rotation can help you reset. How easy is do you find it to swap perspective? Does it make your brain hurt?

Does anyone want to see me make a new version of this lego computer?

I have attached images of my second lego computer build. I am now planning a third that will be very similar to this, but with much better components including a fan controller and hot swap hd bay. Looking for Eagle file for standard breadboard power.

Hello;   I am trying to find an Cadsoft Eagle .brd file. I want to plug boards into a standard breadboard, for power. I want to plug onto the thin side. It seems to be a metric measurement, even though it is 0.1" hole spacing. Or if someone has the spacing info for the pins? I measured 4mm on centre, then 40mm to 51mm for the far row. So it would be on the left or right of the breadboard. I always round ground at the outside, and 5v in the middle. So swapping ends will work. Thanks, and I will keep looking Mick M

Stepper Motor Controller Problem

I recently set up an Arduino Uno, stepper controller, stepper motor, and power supply. Connected the motor to a shaft on a device I`m making and was able to turn the shaft as I wanted. The controller was a TB6600 that I borrowed from a friend. Received 3 new controllers from Ebay and swapped the new one for the borrowed one. Tried all 3 controllers and none worked. Any ideas on what`s wrong or should I just return them and buy 3 more from someone else?

Copying Hard Drive?

I'd like to know, is there any way to copy EVERYTHING from my computer hardrive (this one) and put it on another harddrive, BUT still in this "tower"? As in, I just like swap out the drives. This comp's HD is 70gig, but my other ones 220 gigs. I want to keep all my programs and such, but I want to put it on a bigger HD. Any suggestions? and please please please! let it be freeware. I just love it. Also, I am using XP, and so is the other computer with the bigger HD, but for some reason, the other computer has bigger icons and not as good a quality.

WANTED: Arduino modules with RS-232

Somewhere previously, (which I thought I had favorited, but obviously didn't), someone pointed out USB Arduino modules are simply converting back to RS-232 when programming the chip. As I want to do my development without Windows or USB, I would like to know if there is anyone out there who has excess modules with RS-232 connectors directly attached, even if I have to pay for the USB versions as a swap. Otherwise, if someone knows these modules better, a USB by-pass straight to the RS-232 part of the module would also be appreciated. Mic

Using a mounted drill to power axle mounted device

Hi, I have just constructed a chicken plucker as in the photo. As an initial attempt the device worked really well - except for the connection of the drill to the axle. This was not well aligned so it ate the threaded bar which was trying to pull itself out and not helped with the thread direction. Are there examples of how to better power such a device?  I would like to be able to re-use my drill, I suspect properly aligned would work better. I could also swap to a non threaded bar but would need suggestions on how to keep the plucker barrel in place. Cheers

headphones for a guitar?

About five minutes ago one of my friends brother told me my friend was annoying him by playing his electric guitar at 7:30PM as loud as he can so it got me to thinking, to make headphones that work on a guitar it couldn't be as simple a swapping the jack right? if i made the cassete player amp instructable and just plugged normal headphones into that, the headphones would work so only the guitar player could hear it right? my music teacher told me that plugging headphones into an amp was a bad idea for some reason so im just using that to try and make headphones for an amp another way

Swap Search Engine - Save Rainforest's

Http://ecosia.org/ This website is a search engine just like Google or Bing, However this website saves the planet Search engines like Google place relevant ads alongside the search results, when you click these links the company earns money. To power these searches the company must have massive servers which consume vast amounts of energy and produce a lot of CO2. Now, When you search using Ecosia you can save 2m2 of rainforest per search, this is because Ecosia donates 80% of their profits to the WWF. The WWF work in places like south america protecting rainforests and their inhabitants. Also Ecosia's servers run on 100% green energy, this means they don't release any CO2 and help to reduce climate change. "Ecosia is an independent, non-profit website. At least 80% of our search income goes to a rainforest protection program run by WWF, which uses this money for the sustainable protection of rainforests." I admit it, when I first saw this I thought "nice idea, the search will be rubbish though" BUT i spent about 15 minutes comparing search results with google and bing, trying to find news articles or products and I found that the search engine is actually really good, it sometimes had even better results. You dont have to go to the website every time you want to search, you can install the search box in you browser, it's not a stupid toolbar, it just goes where your google box is now. Here are some stats Total Rainforest Saved rainforest area that has so far been saved by your searches 6,208,793 yd² Total Incoming Searches number of searches so far conducted with ecosia 2,629,518 Saved Rainforest Per Search the average rainforest area saved by one search 2.36 yd² Active Ecosia Users people who have accessed ecosia within the last 24h 27,256 WATCH THIS VIDEO, it explains everything in more detail and has more stats.  :) Frequently Asked Questions; http://ecosia.org/faq.php Search; http://ecosia.org/ Install search-box; http://ecosia.org/install.php So, if you can, switch to Ecosia, Its just as good searching and they are supporting a fantastic cause /eco-warrior

Any Harry Potter fans out there?

OK, good, you know about the whole Harry Potter thing, but do you know about this? Here's the idea. - You put these MP3s onto two CDs and get a copy of The Sorcerer Stone. - Mute your TV. - Put them both in CD and DVD players. - When you're at the DVD menu you hit play on both players at the same time. - Swap CDs for the second half of the movie. - Enjoy the hilarity!OK, I'm guessing on the last one. I haven't tried this and it'll be a while before I have the time to do it. Has anyone else done it or willing to try?

invisible comments

Several family members are now Instructable members so occasionally we like to check and see what each other has said about an Instructable. On every occasions when we go to the Instructable comment section we can not find each other's comments. To double check we swapped member names and passwords but as feared we could only see the comments for the member names we were logged under. Ironically we can see all (?) comments by other members. I logged this as a bug and sent several emails to info@instructables.com but nothing, no response and no reply. Has anyone else experienced this trouble or have any idea of the cause?

Custom Refrigerator Skin

I wanted to figure out how to create a skin for large items such as refrigerators, washing machines,  etc.   I am having trouble conceptualizing the necessary steps to completely hide cosmetic blemishes on large machines and appliances.  Would creating a skin be a good solution?  I am guessing there is a more elegant way than simply placing a large image printout underneath glass?  Also FYI, some of the appliances are completely brand new so I would ideally want a "top layer" solution as opposed to a "painting" solution. Nice to have features: 1.  weather proof 2.  Can be easily swapped with new design

Noobariffic LED art question (Batteries)

Uhh, hi everyone. I have a super basic question, and I'm going to appeal for help because I'm running low on time for this project. I have a signpost I want to light up with about 100 3volt LEDs. What kind of power source should I be looking at? Would 4 AA batteries suffice? I've seen online calculators for determining resistors, but not for an ideal power source. Do I just wire up as many batteries as I want and get the proper resistors? I'd like this thing to light for at least eight hours on a full charge, so I can swap batteries daily. Thank you in advance! I'm dumb!

Switching the input to my speakers with a flick of a switch?

I have my 360 hooked up to my computer LCD as I don't have a regular HD TV and this is the next best thing. With my speaker system I normally have my speakers hooked into my PC sound card. What I think is getting a jack extender. Like it has a jack that plugs into my sound card and then I can plug a cord from my speakers into that so I could easily switch between my xbox and PC by just swapping cables. But I would like to make a little switch box so I can keep both of the plugged in and just hit a little switch and change them.

CHALLENGE: Dirty Video Mixer with Sound Sensor!

Hey guys I have a challenge for you all but forewarning I am a bit of a novice with Arduino and electronics in general. I want to adapt Karl Klomp's Dirty & Cheap video mixer (schematic attached) into something a bit more responsive. The original video mixer is essentially just two RCA inputs fed into a potentiometer and then a combined output is produced as a mix of the two original video sources. I want to swap the potentiometer for a sound sensor (image attached) to allow for the mix of the video output to be governed by the volume of the mixer's surroundings. If anyone could please help me that would be great!!! (Even my lecturers are stumped) Thanks in advance guys! Ryan

Gift exchange

I have a question about the Gift Exchange contest that I believe applies to other people besides me. It is in the line "Since we're just getting started with this idea we're starting a little small. Therefore, this gift exchange is only open to featured authors." I am wondering if future gift exchanges will be open to other people besides the ones featured. It is a great idea, having a world-wide gift exchange! Anyways, I'm an ok writer, but doubt I will ever get featured, so will I ever be able to enter? I am just saying that it will be a lot more fun; more people, ideas, and happiness. I believe future gift swaps will allow anyone to enter without having to be featured. Thanks for listening! Please comment if you have similar thoughts or ideas

Hall effect sensor to trigger relay

Hi! I have a project that needs to sense whether water is flowing through a pipe. I bought a water flow sensor on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LVWHJP0/) thinking I could use it as a basic switch, however, it's got a hall effect sensor and I don't understand how to deal with the voltage output. Measuring from the pulse signal to ground, the sensor swaps the polarity each time it's triggered: With water running, I see a positive voltage. Turn the water off and back on, voltage goes negative. My control system can't deal with this. What I need is a simple circuit to turn the sensor's pulse output into a contact closure. Can anyone help? Thank you!

New Editor and Contests

On Friday we released two big new features that we've been working on for a long while: a new Instructable editor and contests. The new editor is great. It lets you navigate and edit step-by-step while your image library settings remain unchanged. You can even import photos directly from flickr within the editor. It also saves after each action, so you can quickly swap between steps making edits. Look for it here:https://www.instructables.com/id/editor, you can also get to it from the "Try the new Editor!" link in the upper right of the standard editor. After running so many contests and challenges on Instructables, we've now built-in many of those features. Look forward to new ways to find contests, being able to judge and collect community ratings directly on the Instructables, and, in the near future, creating your own contests!

An structable that imitates and improves Wacom's Inkling

Hello all! Just surfing the web for some drawingtablets, that is where I found (duh! d'oh)Wacom Inkling http://www.wacom.eu/index2.asp?lang=en&pid;=9226&gm;=3 It looks cool, but: * I wonder if Wacom is "more compatible" with products they sell, in other words, buy Inkling buy other Wacom related products to make it compatible with each other. *Pen, pressure sensitive, but can you swap the inkleader with any you like? Especially(correct?) (I'm Dutch ;) ) the pen. When the ink has dried up, you don't want to buy another Wacom pen which takes ages to ship. It doesn't seem that hard to recreate something similar without my assumptive drawbacks. But is there a whizzkid that would like to make and instructable like this? Please? :) Regards Thomas

Hello,  I'm interested in possibly modifying a water bottle with an attached battery and some heat coils, so that it could slowly melt snow in to drinkable water.  When I hike during the summer I carry little water because I'm refilling from streams regularly, and I'd like to do the same thing during the winter.  I don't normally build things on my own, but in this case I can't find any product like this.  I recognize that doing this requires quite a bit of power, so I'm not sure if it will end up being feasible or not.  I'm willing to carry quite a few batteries, however.  For a big mountain ascent, it's not uncommon to carry 4-5 liters of water, so we're talking about 10 lbs of water.  So even if I had to swap out batteries a few times, it would still be worth it to do that.  Any thoughts on the feasibility of this idea, and if so, how to proceed with it?  thanks, Chris
