PC Test rack

I read an instructable a couple of weeks ago on a PC Test rack, basicly allowing you to test a PC without a case, but I can't find it. I've searched for ages but can't find it at all. Any help on finding it would be appreciated.

Fundemental Logic Freeduino maxserial board dosen't talk to pc

Bought board v015, cable, cd and Breadboard Shield from vendor, at this years Trenton Computer Festival. The vendor also had an optional de-9 to usb converter. Fundamental Logic apparently now only deals with retailers. I did exactly what the instructions "said" to do, no response, never got the board to talk to my p.c. Thought it was a little odd that the same software could be used for rs-232 and usb?  Thanks for your help! Quando Omni Flunkus Moritati

Kiteman, out in public...

Dorkbot Anglia is a regular evening of talks and conversations with "people doing strange things with electricity" in the East Anglian area. We are delighted to announce our seventh meeting as the guests of the CSV Media Clubhouse on Thursday 24th November. Entry is free. Thursday 24th November 2011, 7:30-10pm CSV Media Clubhouse, 120 Princes Street, Ipswich, Suffolk, IP1 1RS (About five or ten minute's walk from Ipswich railway station) This time, there's a special guest ... Edit: It was a grand night, lots of folk went home with a determination to try the site, plus a new t-shirt. Even better, Tim Hunkin was in the audience! Afterwards, we speakers and the organisers adjourned to a pub called St Jude's for some excellent beer and, frankly, a rather random conversation.  Some interesting ideas about mixing the concepts of 3d printer and laser-cutter, though...

Talk like Shakepeare day!

Thursday has been declared Talk like Shakespeare day! We don't know exactly when he was born, but we're calling April 23 close enough! Readeth the proclaimationeth. Refuse to speak in any tongues save ye olde english Thursday, and force your friends to do the same! Here are 10 quick tips on how to talk like Billy from http://talklikeshakespeare.org/:1 Instead of you, say thou. Instead of y'all, say thee. (This one will be hard for me! :D )2 Rhymed couplets are all the rage.3 Men are Sirrah, ladies are Mistress, and your friends are all called Cousin.4 Instead of cursing, try calling your tormenters jackanapes or canker-blossoms or poisonous bunch-back'd toads.5 Don't waste time saying "it," just use the letter "t" ('tis, t'will, I'll do't).6 Verse for lovers, prose for ruffians, songs for clowns.7 When in doubt, add the letters "eth" to the end of verbs (he runneth, he trippeth, he falleth).8 To add weight to your opinions, try starting them with methinks, mayhaps, in sooth or wherefore.9 When wooing ladies: try comparing her to a summer's day. If that fails, say "Get thee to a nunnery!"10 When wooing lads: try dressing up like a man. If that fails, throw him in the Tower, banish his friends and claim the throne.

Instructables Internship - Day 7 (Day @ Google!)

Sorry to keep you guys waiting, I've just been so busy having fun, etc ;)So, without any further adieu, Tuesday through Thursday! (in four separate posts, so that I don't overwhelm you)Tuesday: Google Day!So, yes, it's true. I got to go to Google to talk a bit about Instructables. Yes, it's true, I'm a terrible speaker. And yes, it's true, Google is awesome!I had so much fun at Google, I'm so glad that we (Billy and I) were able to go. We got to see Stan, the t-rex standing outside in the courtyard. We got free foodstuffs and shwag. We saw SpaceShipOne (I think it was a model, though), and had a great time. It's really cool inside Google; everyone's desk has something strange on it, some people are even in "tents." it's just wacky to the max. Unfortunately, my camera died after a few minutes in Google, so I wasn't able to take too many pictures for you guys v_v sorry. There's actually a video of about 1/2 of the talk up on Google Video, and it's already on the Instructables Blog hereAfter Google, we went back to Squid Labs, where Jason and I worked on and pretty much finished up Project X. All we need now is some fine-detail work and it'l be done! So, it turns out that Tuesday was the annual Squid Labs' Intern Barbecue Day! At 6, the BBQ started, but Jason, Noah, Billy, and I were all out in the back, "testing out" Project X. After a few attempts, and an attempt to modify Proj. X, we decided that our brains needed some food to operate in a more functional manner. The BBQ was nice, there was quite a bit of food, drinks, and socializing. TimAnderson and others were flying kites up on the roof-patio (where the BBQ was held), in a mostly-successful manner. We watched the sun begin to fall, and as Squid Labs has the best view of San Francisco, it was spectacular. Unfortunately, my camera was inoperable... due to lack of battery power, and I didn't get any shots of the sundown. v_vAnywhoo, We all got Squid Lab 2007 Intern T-shirts, which were pretty damn awesome. There's a pic of them at the end of the post. After, Jason, Noah, Mike, Mitch, and both of their girlfriends (Erica and Jenna) came down off the roof-deck to help perfect Proj. X. We did quite a bit of work on it, but after several failed attempts, we knew what we had to do. Unfortunately, it was getting really late and we had to stop working on it for the night. Work will continue on Wednesday! Then, Billy and Star (Starsterisk) were going to watch The Boondock Saints on the projector in the conference room, so I joined them for a bit. We (Eric, Christy and I) got home around 10:30... pretty DARN late....Cheers,-Muffinator

Brainstorming - Teamspeak PTT Bluetooth Device

Gurus of the Tech World, First off, I'm browsed through a lot of great idea and I've got to say, you all are geniuses.  Hopefully, someone can help steer me in the right direction.  I have made a few Windows Phone apps, made a few HTML websites and some networking fundamentals, but I've never really made a device... much less soldered a board. With that said, I want my first project to be a Bluetooth Push-to-Talk (PTT) button for Teamspeak.  I have a Bluetooth headset with a microphone for Teamspeak (VOIP PC Application) so I can hear people speaking while being away from the computer but I do not have a way to communicate back using the Push-to-Talk method. So, what I want to do is make a small Bluetooth device, maybe powered by a 9V, with a single PTT button, and maybe an ON/OFF switch to save power.  My thought is to program it so that it send a keystroke to my computer for the duration that the PTT button is pressed (CTRL would be ideal).  This is something that I want to make, using as much of my brain as possible and the least amount of prefabricated merchandise ("omg, just buy a bluetooth dongle and plug it into a button. ta-da"). I'm sure that this is something you guru's can do blindfolded, but, please, point me in the right direction... and use baby words. Thanks! Stryker2k2 (@stryker2k2)

syfy alien style gel/liquid controller

I wonder how one could build a controller like the aliens use in district 9 and other movies/games. You know the kind im talking about? The one where you put your hands inside of a gel like substance and manipulate the controls. Now maybe were a long way from the actual thing but i would like to make or see made something similar. like maybe a clearish, strong bag that could hold some kind of thick gel. then using displacement of your hands some how be able to "press" buttons. like move index finger up, displacement of gel causes a button/sensor above to be triggered. all while being inside of a clear glowing stylish case... is this possible with todays tech? i think so, but has anyone an idea exactly how to do it? community project maybe??

Wireless or bluetooth rechargeable button attached to PC with a dongle

Hi, I am trying to find details of a cheap wireless/bluetooth largish 3 or 4 inch single button that uses a dongle connected to a Windows PC via USB.  It'll be used for push-to-talk type stuff. It should be rechargeable via USB (a mini connector, or some such thing).  While the button is held down it should send some kind of signal to the PC, and any advice on how I can detect that in C# would be appreciated.  There should also be a status light that will show green when the unit has sufficient charge, red when the button is pressed and blinking yellow when the battery is running low. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks reaxion

Make a hard drive constantly spin outside a PC case?

I'm currently working on a POV hard drive clock. Instead of designing and building a separate circuit to drive the motor in the hard drive, I thought I'd just power the circuit board of the hard drive and let that spin the motor itself. I gave it gnd, 5v and 12v and it spun up, fast and stable too. ~30 seconds later, it stopped spinning and the only way to make it spin again was to turn the power off and turn it on again. Obviously this isn't good for a hard drive clock as it needs to be spinning constantly So how can I make the hard drive spin constantly? Can I pulse a request line on the IDE cable every once in a while or do I need to actually transfer data to and from the hard drive? If it isn't too complicated I could program a PIC chip to talk to the hard drive to keep it spinning but I'm not sure about the structure of the data or how to talk to the hard drive. Anyone know the simplest way to keep it spinning? Thanks, Louis.

I need t make a simple water (moisture) sensor to connect to a talking catfish plaque.

And all my workshop will be floating. I have this cool talking catfish plaque. Its 6VDC batteries and a Transformer for AC plug in power.  I need a simple switch to activate the plaque. I tried two wires from the switch it has , put in water, no luck. I tried the alum. foil type posted instruct. that does not work either. So any suggs.? Thanks Simple is better. I can solder and read simple scematic .stuff. But KISS.

SAMSUNG GALAXY SII SKYROCKET TROUBLE!!! INFURIATING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE HELP!

I recently was given a samsung galaxy SII skyrocket that was being used on the AT&T network as a contract phone. I have a pay-as-you-go phone from straight talk wireless, which uses the GSM network on AT&T towers. Because of this, i thought that if i switched my SIM card from my previous phone into the Galaxy SII, it may work and function just like normal, since AT&T usually supports unlocking their phones and i know straight talk supports unlocked phones. To my surprise, and delight, it worked seamlessly for most aspects of the calling/texting portion of features. The only problem i've found is, despite both phones using the same towers and me paying for an unlimited data connection, the Galaxy SII refuses to pick up any kind of data connection or 3G signal. This means i cannot use many features of the phone itself, certain features of applications i have installed, or even get on facebook. however, the most annoying, frustrating, and honestly infuriating problem is; it won't let me send or download picture messages, which i do often!!! Is there any way i can get a data connection with the Galaxy SII without going back to my crappy old phone?????? or having to pay for an AT&T contract?!?!?!?!? PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What robotic PC add-on would instructables users most want to build? Answered

I'm interested in building a PC add-on, and posting it on instructables. Now, the type of thing that I'm talking about would be like a simple robotic arm to automatically reload the DVD-writer for mass production, or a customized USB game controller, or a wriggling USB squid-monster that quotes you Shakespeare in a computer voice, or something. But, none of the above, since they've all been done. What does your computer need to do for you, that it can't do now?

HC-06 Capabilities

Hello, I am doing some experimenting with the HC-06 and the Arduino/Leonardo. I have the basic setup working to a terminal emulator on my PC. I would like to go one step further now and have the Leonard/HC-06 communicate with a PC application like Word or a browser. In short, I'm trying to have the Leonardo/HC-06 function like a Bluetooth keyboard. Is that possible, or is the HC-06 limited to talking to only a terminal emulator? Thanks, George

Any ideas on how I can hoop up an old synth to a PC?

I have this pretty old synth that has no midi out, just out for a speaker. About the hookup, I know I can just hook it up to my PC's Microphone/Audio Input and record but that's not the point. What I want to do is hook it up to a program (like Reaper) and use the program's synths. So, just use it as a keyboard. And from what I can('t) tell the output is something like square wave (also it can put out sine on the bass keys and i think some options have triangle waves.) Also I have no idea what model this thing is, all I know that it was made by Vermona and it makes a pretty good sound. It's completely analog. Thanks in advance

How can i get my PC to detect a WIFI signal again?

About 3 weeks ago, I was trying to update from win10 v 1709 to Win 10 version 1803 but I couldn't finish because the signal for this particular WiFi at the Lodge became so weak all of the sudden. Actually, the lodge has two routers- one with the excellent signal and the other with a very weak signal. What surprised me is that my android phone detects the signal immediately I enter the lodge premise but my PC won't. This WIFI network only shows up on the available networks for a few seconds and it disappears for hours. Sometimes I get lucky, it comes on and connects automatically but limited service. So I think my PC has a problem and not the router. Any help please. I'm stuck here for like 3 weeks, school work isn't easy to do anymore. I've atrached pictures from which u will see what Im talking about. I'll appreciate your responses.

While I don't care so much about the actual copyrights (Instructables is largely based on "Attribution non-commercial share-alike" legality), I do believe that at least a formal nod is in order. It might look (to those unfamiliar with Instructables) like he did some fancy research to gather those neat tips together, but to me it is practically undeniable that he was surfing Instructables. (I am not exaggerating, I read at least half of those tips on Instructables within the same hour!)Perhaps the best tip Zack Stern could have given was the only obvious one he left out: Visit Instructables for more of these user-enabling tips!Sincerely,Ricky RatzlaffAvid Instructables readerP.S. is there a way to hack my motorola walkie talkie to play music when no one is talking over the headset?

Hello, i'm trying to hack my motorola walkie talkie using a microcontroller to play music continuously from my iPod, and switch to the headset of my walkie talkie when someone speaks to me over the headset.  Has anyone done this before or have any suggestions or helpful links? My walkie talkie of course has a headset that has two prongs, one for audio out, and another in from the handheld mic that clips to my shirt.  I'm wanting to, like i said, use a microcontroller to sense when the audio is coming from the walkie talkie and mute the iPod, then continue playing again once my coworker has stopped talking to me on the communication device.  Any help?  I have the necessary equipment to program the microcontroller, but won't know the code or which microcontroller to purchase.  Please help? I've attached a picture of the type of walkie talkies i'm talking about, it's not the exact one, but you can get a better idea of what i'm talking about

Playlists! (What Games Are You Playing Now, part two)

OK, now give each game you're playing a score. Out of five, ten, whatever, I don't care.Halo 3 - Xbox 360 - 5/5Guitar Hero 2 - Xbox 360 - 5/5Guitar Hero 3 - Xbox 360 - 5/5Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow - GameCube - 2/5Oh man, Ubi Shanghai really dropped the ball on Pandora Tomorrow. Also, it's the GameCube version. GameCube versions of Splinter Cell always suck.Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory for Xbox, soon hopefully (getting it cheap (used) off Amazon).

TigerNod (and perhaps other people too) can't create a group

When I tried to submit a group my pc told me to enter a name for my group. I did, and I called it "Command and Conquer Group". For some reason, it keeps telling me to enter a name before I can submit. I'm not that technical with computers or the Internet, so is there someone around to explain me what I should do?
