Hi everyone I am doing a project in university and i wanted to make a talking thermometer which told a blind person what temperature the meat was. At the very best i wanted it to have different functions for chicken, beef and pork. (So they can cook a medium steak and then a safe temperature for chicken, although the temp for chicken and pork is above that of a beef so maybe i can fit it into one chip. i dunno) I have to make the PCB myself so i was just looking for any help on how i may do it (maybe a mix of a home made pcb and arduino) Any any tips or advice i may need Thanks Michael

Hi all. I would like to build a wireless push to talk switch for use with my comms set up used for airsoft. I would like to be able to put the switch/button onto my rifle (wirelessly) so I can keep hands on when communicating on the radio. Having to take my hand off the rifle to push the talk button is a pain. The only ones I can find online are commercial and quite expensive. What I hope to do is build a simple wireless switch and modify the current PTT swith to be operated by the wireles one. Can anybody advise me how to do this? Circuit diagrams or hints? A site with ready made plans (wishful thinking) Cheers in advance from New Zealand

Drumroll please...it's the world's (or at least instructable's) longest forum post! :D I want to solder a microphone (I ripped it out of an old telephone headset) to a walkie talkie's board in such a way that I can talk into that and have the walkie talkie pick up that instead of the input from the preexisting mike...I figured I would have to use the same old push to talk button, but I would sure like to be able to press a button near the mike to talk. I want to thread the mike up my arm, like a secret agent! The Where would I solder the microphone wires? Do I have to worry about burning/shortcircuiting my microphone or the walkie talkie? Is there any way to attach a talk button so it runs down my arm as well? Thanks!

Innovation Lab recently put together a conference and asked Squid Labs to start it off by talking about the disappearing factory. Unfortunately, we weren't able to attend, and so sent this video instead. In it, Saul, Tim, and I stare into a sunset and talk about what we think is the disappearing factory.

Bought board v015, cable, cd and Breadboard Shield from vendor, at this years Trenton Computer Festival. The vendor also had an optional de-9 to usb converter. Fundamental Logic apparently now only deals with retailers. I did exactly what the instructions "said" to do, no response, never got the board to talk to my p.c. Thought it was a little odd that the same software could be used for rs-232 and usb? Thanks for your help! Quando Omni Flunkus Moritati

Today (Friday October 16, 2015) Instructables founder Eric Wilhelm went on Science Friday to talk about some fun Halloween Projects for Science Lovers. "Green fire, magic mirrors, fiber optic fairy wings—just a few of the ways to geek out this Halloween with do-it-yourself projects. Eric Wilhelm, founder of Instructables, joins Ira to suggest a few of his favorites, like an arduino-powered skull that follows you as you move, or truly realistic edible eyeballs (sorry, peeled grapes.)" Listen and follow along with this fun collection of projects.

I've been thinking that you guys need a personal public "talk to the editors" section in the forums. There have been many times I'm working on a project that I'd like to get an editors view of what I'm doing, or that I'd like advice from the creative people there. And it would be great to have an open line to each editor, visible to everyone, in which to share ideas and opinions. I know we can ask questions via personal messages, Kiteman and caitlinsdad ;))) this is more direct to each editors creative abilities.

Friends, I hate talking on the cell phone; it's too small, especially when I'm talking from home. I keep a land line so I can chat for hours on a regular sized telephone. However, I'm moving next week and won't be able to spring for a land line. Can anyone help me use an old-time big phone receiver with a cell phone? Blue tooth maybe? Or perhaps attach something to/around the cell phone that allows me to hold it between my head and shoulder and talk into a mouthpiece that's near my mouth? Thank you, evil geniuses, all... xo

These first aid kits include individual kits for treating different types of injuries. What makes this so special, is that each kit includes audio instructions on how to handle the situation and how to use the kit.The LinkThis technically fits into kids and sports, but I posted it on the life section, since more people read this section.....

Double comments? I have been noticing this a few times within the last few weeks. Such as today. I got a comment from DJ Radio someone and then about 40 minutes later, I got the exact same comment. I'm pretty sure people are not doing this as a joke. When I'm talking about this, I'm talking about the comment tracker, it doesnt appear twice on the actual ible it is on. Has anyone else seen this happening?

Hey Dev Team This isn't exactly critical... But when you've got a moment to spend a few cycles on, superuser me and check out my backtalk page. Any projects with a square bracket (probably with the first char only), messes with the UI and puts a red box around that field. I used square brackets when I did those collegiate meal projects.... Happy new year :)

Elemental LED hosts office DIY Challenge, names Instructables as their source for DIY inspiration and help Elemental LED recently posted an article about their office DIY Challenge to see who can create the best LED projects. You might remember Elemental LED as the sponsors to our summer LED Contest. The video talks about Elemental's place in DIY culture and why sharing creations on Instructables is important. In the video you can see some of the projects they created during their DIY Challenge party, they also mention how Instructables is their place to come and get inspiration and guidance for their creations. Just me again looking for more advice.... *sigh... i must be pathetic...* I have been having problems talking with people. Not talking as in messing up my words but talking as in saying something softly and uninterestingly. it seems i can type with personality but i can't show it worth a crap... I just don't feel happy and i feel empty inside one of my friends said it was not believing in myself but i don't think that's the case. It's not a confidence problem. (3 years in Tae Kwon Do fixed that). It seems like a personality problem. I don't feel like myself... i don't do much but keep to myself. I play online games with a headset and i can talk just how i want to unless i am at school. I just feel numb inside. It is really hard to explain and i feel like i look like the kid that just sits and goes through the motions and doesn't have any fun. It feels like i have the personality of a rock. Im not the best looking, not the funniest, but i am nice to everybody. ( for the most part). I am just not getting noticed as much as i want. when somebody talks to me i just kind of respond in as few words as possible and it doesn't feel natural to talk for a long time. Can anybody tell me what this problem is and how to fix it. (if possible?) ----------------extra info-------------------- --I don't get out much --Most of my time is taken up by COD my computer and hunting --I have a small group of loyal, good friends --have never had a girlfriend --do not normally get in trouble please help me with this... i just don't feel interesting...

Hello, i'm trying to hack my motorola walkie talkie using a microcontroller to play music continuously from my iPod, and switch to the headset of my walkie talkie when someone speaks to me over the headset. Has anyone done this before or have any suggestions or helpful links? My walkie talkie of course has a headset that has two prongs, one for audio out, and another in from the handheld mic that clips to my shirt. I'm wanting to, like i said, use a microcontroller to sense when the audio is coming from the walkie talkie and mute the iPod, then continue playing again once my coworker has stopped talking to me on the communication device. Any help? I have the necessary equipment to program the microcontroller, but won't know the code or which microcontroller to purchase. Please help? I've attached a picture of the type of walkie talkies i'm talking about, it's not the exact one, but you can get a better idea of what i'm talking about

I have a Palm Treo 700p and a PhoneLabs Dock n Talk that I'd like to connect. Currently, the only way to connect them is via Bluetooth, which stinks, as there is a long lag between placing/answering a call and making the actual connection. Some phones connect via cable, which has no lag (these cables carry voice, similar to a handsfree cable). I've got the cable that plugs into the Dock n Talk box and I've got two different cable choices for my Palm (2.5mm headphone jack for voice/handsfree, and a Palm/USB data cable: http://www.amazon.com/SYNC-CABLE-PALM-TREO-700wx/dp/B0030BH3EC). Can I splice anything together to connect the Dock n Talk to my Palm via cable?

I tried to cram a lot into the subject line, because Notacon's got a lot going on this year. It's 3 weeks away, and if you're reading this, you should definitely come. Talks this year cover computer and network security, video production, social networking and bots, microcontrollers, photogrammetry (look it up!), electronic musical instruments, and more. There's an entire demoparty (Blockparty 09) happening inside Notacon. And then there's the bit I think is of most interest to you, Mr. or Ms. Instructable: The Anything but Ethernet contest, which I judge. Bring weird gear, move data over it, win prizes. This year's grand prize is a $250 soldering station. Trust me, you should enter, and you can win something.

The Yes Men are speaking at MIT next Monday, October 26th, in the Bartos Theater in the Media Lab (E15, on Ames St). Wish I could pop over, but it's a long trip - if you get to go, share your thoughts. Why do you want to see this talk? From the posting: The Yes Men have an unusual hobby: posing as top executives of corporations they hate. Armed with nothing but thriftstore suits, The Yes Men lie their way into business conferences and parody their corporate targets in ever more extreme ways – basically doing everything that they can to wake up their audiences to the danger of letting greed run our world. The Yes Men were featured in the documentary, The Yes Men Fix the World, which won the Panorama Audience Award at the 2009 Berlin Film Festival.
