The Secret Service is Calling Me! Help!!

Hi Friends,Recently someone has been calling me on my cell phone about 3 times a day saying they are the secret service from a private Caller ID. It is someone from my high school. I think they are using a spoof card because the phone number is blocked or the white houses number. It is really starting to piss me off and I need some help. They have called about 7 or 8 times in the last 2 days. Its really annoying. I called sprint to see what they could do but all they said was that I would need to contact local law enforcement to put it to a stop. The worst part is they are not only wasting there own and my own time but they are also working away at my phone bill. So, I need your help. What do you think I should do, contact the local police and get the perpetrator(s) arrested for impersonating a government member or should I try something else such as taking the law into my own hands (phone trap/ back spoofing)Thanks for all your help.Joe Rowley

Help With A Mouse-Trap Car

Okay, for physics class, we need to make a mouse-trap car, and I need some help. Basically, the only thing we can't have any electronics, or another mouse-trap. I've seen the ones on ibles here, and lots on google. The basic idea, is to have two CDs, each with a rubber band, or balloon around the edge for traction. But I am asking you, if you were making a mouse-trap car, what would you do?

Zombie Traps

In the spirit of Halloween and to kick of Season 4 of The Walking Dead, I came up with this idea for a zombie-proof house as a sort of design exercise. It also has the benefit of sustainable zombie disposal. See some Pros and Cons on my blog. Tell me what you think of my idea. Do you have any ideas for a fortress or zombie trap? Post them here!

Humane Trap Ideas

Okay, so we've got critters in our attic...Probably Wolf Rats or something....I've tried using a large bucket with a board ramp. On top of the bucket I've got a towel laid across the top. For bait, I've used bread with peanut butter. My trap idea just doesn't seem to work.... The animals steal the bread without fallin' in! They're smart.... Any other ideas? Thanks! :)

I want to make a sensor which can detect the dingo trap movement

Hi guys, I want to make a sensor which can detect the dingo trap movement as I want to know if any dingo is trapped or not. I want it connect it with a dragino MS14( in 14 positions screw terminal). I have many traps in my farm and my part is to make a sensor and find a way to connect it with dragino MS14 14 positions screw terminal. Else will be handled by my fellow participants in the project.  Does anyone have a any kind of knowledge about it?

Scholarship Roomba Create Idea: Mouse Trap

My idea is for the robot to be a mouse hunter. I know this sounds far fetched, but all you have to do is load it with peanut butter. To describe the trap: You attach a capacitor, and leave the circuit open. The robot remains unmoving, and waits for the mouse to go for the peanut butter. When the mouse steps on the two separated plates, attached to the Create, the mouse closes the circuit, releasing the charge in the capacitor, killing it instantly. (A disposable camera works great for this, it has capacitor and voltage needed to kill a mouse.) The Create would search for either movement via IR, or, if possible, UV reflections from the ground. Mice leave trails of urine that reflect UV light. These trails give the Create an excellent place to set the trap. Once the charge of the capacitor is released, the Create will sound an alarm and flash an LED. Perhaps scooping the mouse into it's undercarriage and moving on to find another ideal trap site.

Trapped for the weekend.

I experienced a delayed posting of a project just this past weekend. I submitted an instructable Saturday afternoon to not have it appear until Monday afternoon.  Somewhat frustrating to invest time crafting an instructable then to have it burried in the third page when it finally appeares over two days later. Many page views are missed when this happens. I believe the cause was that my instructable contained the word knife [https://www.instructables.com/id/Cut-Paper-Circles-With-Ease-Drawing-Compass-Knif/] and thereby became trapped in the filters setup to catch dangerous instructables. I understand the need for filtering and containing dangerous projects but having reviewed and released projects keep their original posting date means lost exposure. Maybe nothing can be done about it but I needed to share my frustration. Self therapy perhaps.  There, I'm already feeling better about it. -Jason

Information wanted on "Mongoose Box" plans

Does anyone have plans for a "Mongoose Box/Trap"? This is a rectangular box, looks like a live trap. One end is closed with a cover and when you lift the cover, it whips out a piece of fur or fabric which looks like an animal escaping. This is a really great fun joke to play on people who are curious and unsuspecting.

Hornet Trap. Should this be an Instructable?

I know how to make your own hornet trap. I don't know if I want to post it as an Instructable or not. It's more of an Idea of mine right now, so its kinda sketchy, and I haven't actually tried it yet. Here it is in a nutshell: (I will give better instructions if I decide to make it an instructable.) Cut a large plastic coke bottle about 1/3 from the top. Fill about 1/3 of the bottom of the bottle with a sticky liquid (Coolaid). Invert the top third of the bottle so the neck is down and place it back into the bottom 2/3. Tape the two pieces together and place somewhere (near a trash can, etc). Catch some hornets I know, it's vague right now.

How they steal your card at an ATM!!!

This is how they steal your credit card right in frot of your eyes! (Well, kinda)One surveillance camera in a bank in Italy has captured these images. They clearly show how easily you may be swindled out of your money, while banking at automatic teller (ATM)Read the process here, or just hover over the pictures for the explanation of what's happening:Pic 1- The camera shows someone routinely making a bank depositPic 2 - But what this person actually doing is inserting something in the machinePic 3 - To make sure that nobody catches him tampering with the machine, he has a friend outside to alert him.Pic 4 - Once the trap is set, the victim enters the bankPic 5 - He inserts the debit card into ATM, and it gets stuck there! The victim is surprised: "Weird, maybe this machine is broken?" He looks around for advice:Pic 6 - Luckily there is someone eager to help to get the card out. What "the helper" is actually after is the P.I.N. code:Pic 7 - "The Good Samaritan" convinces the victim to try to enter the code again (he may blame the faulty keypad, new type of the machine, or claim to know the "secret unblocking code", etc.)Pic 8 - However, the card remains stuck, no matter how many times he punches "Enter" or "Cancel". The exasperated victim leaves, realizing he will have to get his card from the bank later.Pic 9 - As soon as the victim is gone, "the helper" returns to retrieve the card from the machine. Now he's got both the card AND the P.I.N..Pic 10 - he withdraws the maximum amount of money from all accounts on the card, and leaves. How it happened: Pic 12 - The inserted "card trap" is just a piece of black film, which blends with black plastic of the ATM.Pic 13 - The trap is inserted into the slot, with the ends slightly sticking out and glued to the outside, for an easy withdrawal afterwards.Pic 14 - Once these ends are neatly glued in, it's nearly impossible to tell if there is any foreign object in the slot.Pic 15 - The trap film also has special notches, to ensure that the card is not ejected by the machine when the operation is canceled.Pic 16 - Once the victim is gone, the crook unglues the tips of the trap and "fishes out" the card.DO NOT FALL FOR THESE TRAPS!Never type your PIN in plain view of strangers.Be on guard, and share this information with your friends!

The FootHold Snare

One day, you might find yourself lost in the woods while camping! One day, the stock market will crash and are YOU ready to survive? Traps and Snares are one of the most important things while surviving. Blake Alma, the founder of The Art of the Outdoorsman once said, "A trap is as someone else hunting for you when you can't, it is truly your best hunting buddy!" This is so true. Unlike fishing poles and firearms, traps and snares work when you are sleeping! Hence, learning how to make a simple snare indeed helpful and lifesaving for it is an art of an outdoorsman! Let's get started on this foothold snare. You need: A shovel, 550 lb. test paracord, and bait. Note: There are laws regarding trapping. Step 1: Digging your Hole Picture of Digging your Hole I hope you got a good shovel and back! You will need to dig a hole 2 to 3 feet deep. Yes, I know it is a true pain, but it can save your life or get you free food! Diameter of your Hole: - Raccoon/Opossum/Mink/Groundhog/Large Rabbit (6 inches) - Coyote/Fox/Bobcat (8 inches) - Animals under 550 pounds/Deer/Small Elk/Very Small Bear/ect. (12 to 18 inches) Step 2: Camouflaging After digging your hole, add leaves, thin sticks, tree bark, or grass over the hole. Do not put to much "camouflage" over the hole or else you may prevent the animal from falling down in the hole. Step 3: The Snare Wrap the paracord around a stick or you finger making a small loop. Tie the small loop, and pull your finger out. Make sure the knot is very strong. Put the other end of the paracord through the small loop. You should then have a giant loop, known as the snare itself. Make the loop's (snare) diameter slightly smaller than your hole's diameter. Tie the snare extra line around a tree, sapling, or log near by. Make sure it holds. Place the snare itself over the hole, on top of the "camouflage". Step 4: The Path of the Least Resistance Sense the animal has plenty of ground to step on, it might be hard to get him in your hole. Hence you need to create a the path of the least resistance. You need to make him limited to where the animal will step. Make a path to your foothold snare using leaves, sticks, logs, and grass. Make it easy for the animal to walk through. Like us we want to walk on a nice smooth sidewalk, not on a beaten trail. They want to walk on a path with the least resistance, they don't want step on pointy sticks. They want to step were the feel most comfortable. That is way you need to make a path to your snare, so it will step into your snare! Step 5: Baiting your FootHold Snare Picture of Baiting your FootHold Snare Place your bait two to three feet ahead of your foothold snare. Raccoon and mink like fish. Opossum like processed meat like hot dogs. Groundhogs like sweet apples. Coyote and fox like meat. Deer like deer feed (duh!). How it works: The animal will smell the bait and take your path of the least resistance. While walking up to your bait on the path, he will step his foot in the hole. It will pull his foot out of the hole and continue walking. (When we pulls his foot out the snare comes out with him.) Then the snare tightens around his foot, making him trapped. Making traps for a persistant home intruder

Our 12 year old neighbor will not stay out of my house and car. We have to keep everything locked, and even though we do that, he comes in. We can't afford a home security system, so what can we do? The police don't care, really, because they're always driving him home from someplace he isn't supposed to be. He is like a ninja- he used to come in while we're sleeping, and he could take things from right next to our heads without us knowing. Now, he usually goes into our shed and steals things even when we're awake, and have company! When we locked the gate, the window on the shed got broken. One time he almost walked in the door while my mom was sitting on the couch watching tv. He started to beat on the door for about 15 minutes. Mom doesn't want anything to do with him, so she let him knock because something happens almost every time he comes inside. She said he started to come inside, and she pretended to be asleep. When he saw her, he pulled the door shut real quick. I pulled into the driveway at about this point, not knowing anything that just happened. I though he had just walked up to knock. He then got all wide eyed when he saw me and my sister. He asked "who's in there!?" Like he was afraid or something. We said "mom," and he asked my sister for a cigarette. I'm getting tired of not feeling safe in my own home, and now we have someone else's car here. I don't want her stuff stolen, so what are some traps I can set up so that if they don't hurt him, they will at least wake me up so I can do something?

New Category? How About Hunting :)

Hello! My name is Tyler, and i have a proposal for Instructables.com, or whoever might be interested in helping me with this. I would love to see a new 'outside' sub-category (I guess you'd call it that) on hunting, trapping, tracking etc created, and it would be thus called, Hunting! Basically, the idea came to me when i noticed lots of guides like cleaning critters, trap setting/making, how to track animals etc, but to me they don't seem to belong to the right category. I haven't seen any other posts related to this, but I would love to put the idea out there, because I do think it would be quite useful to have a category for hunting, not just sport, but for survival. I want to also apologize if someone has said this idea before and  i haven't noticed it :-P I hope this interested at least someone and I hope to see how it goes! :-D Tyler H.

How can I get a ventilator to suck air from a smoke machine and trap the smoke?

Hi, I`m making a 2meter laser etched cardboard dinamic sculpture face of a girl inhaling smoke with a smoke machine on the mouth, and I want to imitate this inhaling effect!:  2 Q> what can I use to get the "nose" to absorb the smoke? :  {"A fan or blower can be used to suck the vapor in. Then if you have a long enough duct or large enough chamber let the vapor evaporate/dissipate. You can also run it through a furnace filter to help condense the water vapor faster. "} https://www.rolight.nl/Home/Webshop/effect/rookmachine/EFNELOQ20/Look-viper-S-DMX-met-2liter-regular-fog I got the fog machine 2.1 Q> -I am looking for a strong fan or blower that sucks the air in like a nose (and some machine that traps the smoke particles coming from the smoke machine), but What am I looking for more specifically?

I just want to make sure that the victims are never forgotten, and I take this moment to remember the fallen, and those firefighters, police officers, EMT, who all risked their lives to save those trapped. Thanks for taking the time to remember, and I hope some point tomorrow you share a moment of silence with the world to remember. *silence*

Please, release me; let me go...

Yesterday, I posted a long comment, with clear, cogent, and on-topic content, to a forum topic which was specifically addressed to me. It is now more than 25 hours later, and my reply is still trapped in whatever antiscientific purgatory it was banished. If it's not going to be released, could someone on staff post a comment to that effect in the forum topic, so that the OP and others know they aren't going to get an answer.

Will an air conditioner pump be good for a vacuum evaporator?

I've been wondering if I could use an air-conditioner pump for a vacuum evaporator for making concentrates without destroying some flavor for home brewing and cooking and I'm wondering if I should worry about the water vapor the comes from this. Should I set up some kind of cold trap for the water making some kinda vacuum distiller or should I use something else to drop the pressure?

Creating an electromagnet as powerful as an NeFeB magnet with same size

Is this possible? So I'm working on this project on levitation using superconductor and strong NeFeB magnets. I'm try to determine the possibility of replacing the magnets with electromagnets equally as powerful and of the same size if not smaller. But I'm bit skeptic about the idea as I'm not sure how possible it will be to construct such electromagnet (or buy them preferable). Is this something that is possible? can anyone reading this give me recommendations? thanks

In this space it could be moved by pushing it through the plastic. So does anyone know a way i could accomplish this on my own? Vacuum sealing? Heat sealing?

clean and reuse washwater

I want to clean and reuse my washing machine water to wash clothes.  The system must be #1 cheap to build(off the shelf parts), #2 cheap to use(wasting power to save water is stupid). I am thinking, an easily accessed fine mesh lint trap. A second stage to remove chemicals (sand?charcoal?) and a third to kill any buggies (UV light?). I will also need to address which products are best to use for this system. And of course a valve too return to the "normal" system for some occaisions. Thanks for any input . nursenary

"Boy's Life" Archives

http://boyslife.org/wayback/ I most remember "scouts in action" these were cautionary tales, as well as how to get yourself or a stranger out of a tight spot. They seem to be about page 45 to 65. Common topics: "trapped in quicksand" or " when the cave collapsed" or "the chemistry set explosive went off in his hand!!" But there was so much more, like how to make stuff with sticks, rope and knots. So much of my kidhood was howto based on scout stuff. I'm tryin to figure out how to paste  pics from the mag at the above link.

pygmy tarsiers found alive in Indonesia!

Fox news " Mouse-sized primates called pygmy tarsiers, not seen alive in 85 years, have come out of hiding from a mountaintop in a cloud forest in Indonesia. Weighing just 2 ounces (57 grams), they resemble mini-gremlin creatures, as they have big eyes and are covered in dense coats of fur to keep warm in a damp, chilly habitat. Unlike most other primates that sport fingernails, pygmy tarsiers have claws, which scientists say might be an adaptation to grasping onto moss-covered trees. The recent sighting has conservation implications. And researchers said they hope that with new information about where the species lives, the Indonesian government will protect them from the encroaching development occurring in the animals' home range. Hide-n-seek The last sighting of this primate alive was in 1921 when live specimens were collected and processed for a museum collection. Decades went by without another sighting. And scientists thought the pygmy tarsier (Tarsius pumilus) had possibly gone extinct. Then, in 2000, two Indonesian scientists who were trapping rats on Mt. Rore Katimbo in Lore Lindu National Park in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia, reported they had accidentally trapped and killed a pygmy tarsier. So Sharon Gursky-Doyen of Texas A&M University and her grad student Nanda Grow, along with a group of Indonesian locals, went looking for the teacup-sized primates on that same mountaintop. This past summer, the team trapped two males and a female. They placed radio collars on the animals for tracking. Since pygmy tarsiers can turn their heads 180 degrees, this process can be dangerous, as Gursky-Doyen found out. "I have the dubious honor of being the only person in the world to have been bitten by [a pygmy tarsier]," Gursky-Doyen told LiveScience. "My field assistant was holding the tarsier and I was attaching a radio collar around its neck and while I was attaching the radio collar he bit me [on the finger]." The female has since been eaten by a hawk, Gursky-Doyen said.

What to do with Ball Bearings?

For some while I've had a pile of ball bearings sitting here on my lounge room table, and without knowing what on earth to do with them, I now ask you. I have found uses such as adding to my "mousetrap racer," a small car, run by a mouse trap, that can go up to 15 metres. With ball bearings it goes twice as far as it used to, so I have become curious... what to do now though? All ideas would help, and an instructable would be even better. Cheers

Anyone got any tips for a baby fence?

I'm wondering if anyone has any idas on how I could make a cheap, portable baby yard style fence. For those who don't know, I'm talking about a 2.5'ish foot fence that can circle around and attatch to itself, essentially trapping your kid in an area. The commercial ones tend to cost 50 and up if you hope to give the kid a decent amount of area. I'm just wondering if anyone here has come up with a solution, or has an idea in their head that make work. Thanks, Tony

I'm working on a project for Halloween that involves some LEDs, I've got a bunch of old cigar boxes painted up to look like Ghostbusters proton traps and I just want to have red lights on them, preferably blinking. I got an LED assortment at Radio Shack to experiment with. When I put a 9v battery to one I saw a tiny flash and then nothing, so I think I overpowered it. But when I went down to a 1.5v AA battery nothing happens. I'm sure this is stupid-simple, but I've got no experience whatsoever. Any specifics would be appreciated. Thanks!!!
