Drone not turning on? Answered

I have an Ardupilot 2.6 from 3DRobotics on their quad frame. I am using their power distribution board now instead of using one that I made myself. Before I changed the power board, my drone was working perfectly. Now when I try to arm it (enable the motors) it does not work. The light on the APM 2.6 blinks red when disarmed and is solid red when armed. It only blinks when I try to arm it. I am using a Turnigy 9x transmitter with a turnigy RX. I have tried replacing the RX and it does the same thing. I have a separate battery pack for the receiver because it seemed like it was not getting enough power with the 3DRobotics power board. Could it be a problem with the transmitter?

Vibromotors and GPS turn by turn navigation

Hello, for one of my university courses I have to develop a prototype that give turn by turn signals to a person by means of vibromotors. First I would like to say that my background is mechanical and I have no idea whatsoever of electronics or software. My full Idea (Don't know if feasable) is to use the turn by turn information of a smatphone navigator that uses GPS (like the one of google maps) to activate one of two vibromotors, there would be one vibromotor on the right arm and the other on the left, if a next turn is needed to be made (info from the navigator) a signal will be send to the the motor on the left arm, It will vibrate and let the user know that this next turn needs to be done. I need urgent help since I don't know which components I may need and how to develop the software or anything I will appreciate any hint.

How to turn on and off a stream of gas?

The exact setup I have is a little difficult to explain, but basically I'm designing an extremely simple heat engine, based on boiling ethanol, and need to be able to mechanically alternate the flow of vapour. I have a little boiler, sealed except for a pipe out of which the vapour escapes. This lifts the column of ethanol in the pipe, pouring it into a water wheel which turns. The ethanol then runs back through a second pipe into the system to be pumped up again. It works, and fairly well since I'm not looking to get a lot of power or efficiency, but only if I pinch the tube on and off. This allows the bubbles to collapse, which sucks in more ethanol to replace them. When I release the tube the bubbles rush out, lifting the eths, and repeat. I have two valves to keep the system one directional. So now I'm looking for a way to automate the opening and closing of the gas feed. I've been trying a few things but nothing seems to work well enough yet. The other consideration is that; due to the nature of the larger project, whatever I use has to be extremely simple to construct, preferably from reclaimable materials. 1 second on, 1 second off seems to work best. Any ideas? cheers, Daniel.

Wireless Turn Signals

I have toyed around with the idea of making a jacket that has the turn signals and/or brake lights on the back. However, there is a twist, I would like to see a controller box to wirelessly send the signal from a scooter to the jacket. When the turn signals and brakes are used on the scooter it sends a wireless signal to the controller in the jacket which relays that to lights on the back of the jacket. I've seen some jackets with lights wired on to them controlled with an arduino.

A circuit that turns on randomly

Hey, Another quick questions for the more technically minded than me. I need to make a circuit that turns on randomly between 2 set times. i.e. a circuit that will turn on at a different point between 1 and 3 seconds each turn. I'm hooking it up to a keyboard to stimulate it to press a button, but I think I've that bit sorted! It's getting it to turn on and off randomly that's confusing me. So if any of you geniuses can help!? :D Thanks in advance!

Bluetooth speaker not turning on?

Hi, i made a basic DIY Bluetooth speaker with a glass box. I used one 18650battery from old laptop, a charging module with protection circuit inbuilt, one stepup module to step up 4v to 5v and a 3w amplifier. It's a basic project, but the thing is WHEN I TURN THE SWITCH ON(AMPLIFIER POTENTIOMETER IS OFF) I SEE LED BLINKING ON BLUETOOTH MODULE, MEANS IT'S WORKING ,THE CIRCUIT IS OK. THE MOMENT WHEN I TURN ON THE POTENTIOMETER ON OF THE AMPLIFIER THE SPEAKER JUST SOUNDS LIKE "TICK" AND BOOM EVERYTHING SHUTS OFF. I TRIED TO MEASURE THE VOLTAGE COMING FROM STEPUP MODULE SAYS "0"V. SO I PLUGGED A CHARGER ON CHARGING MODULE AND THEN TRIED TO TURN ON AND FIRST 2 SEC SPEAKER MAKES SOME SOUND AND IT TURNS ON AND PLAYED SOME MUSIC, IT WORKED GREAT. THE THING IS WHENEVER I'M TURNING ON THE AMPLIFIER VIA POTENTIOMETER OR THE POTENTIOMETER IS ON AND I SWITCH ON THE POWER FROM THE FIRST SWITCH THE POWER CUTS. SO WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE SPEAKER. PLEASE TELL ME :(

SKUNKPUNK turns 15!

Ok, This is a bit of a crisis. My oldest son, Skunkpunk, turns 15 today! I turned 37 last week. I'm feeling OLD. I only realized that I was no longer a teenager a couple of years ago, and now I'm having to deal with being a parent of a teen. For me, 15 was a big year. Learning to drive, my first serious girlfriend, etc. I'm not ready to deal with Skunkpunk's teenage-roller-coaster. So anyway, If anyone has any advice for us we could use it. I need advice on how to parent a teen, and he needs advice on how to survive the teen years.

TDA7293 isnt turning on Answered

I recently bought some TDA7293 chips figuring they'd make nice amplifiers, but when I tested one just now, nothing happens.  It doesn't even seem to take any power in, it doesn't heat, hum, smoke, pop, or anything else, and I've checked the wiring a bazillion times.  (12, actually, but that should be enough)  I'm using this circuit :  http://sound.westhost.com/project127.htm   on a +-12V supply, which is the minimum specs according to the datasheet.  I can't use a higher voltage because I don't have a higher voltage power supply right now (the 24V one I had hummed enough to destroy one of the other TDA7293s I had), and I want to remove all other possibilites before buying another split supply.  It has a little static when I take the power off, but leave the input connected, but it turns compleatley off if I apply voltage (but doesn't click or anything, there is no voltage going to the speaker at all.)  Any ideas?

Turning instructables into earnables...

Hi - I really enjoy instructables. Seeing all of the cool things people do here inspired me to create a related site. That site is for people who want to post their how-to videos and collect online rental fees. Becoming a publisher is free - the site is supported out of the rental fees (you keep up to 76% of the fees you collect). I won't be tacky (more than I have been already anyway) and post the URL here, but please PM me if you are interested. We're actively looking for publishers who want to earn a few bucks. Thanks, and sorry if this is inappropriate - please delete it if crosses the line. Jeff

So I want to try to turn a old sony cd diskman circa 1999 into a turn table for cds. My idea here is to have it play but I can stop the disk with my finger and hopefully get a skipping effect, the other idea is to be able to freely move the laser eye and have it still play while doing it. I already have it soldered up so that it can play without the case and have a 9 volt connected to it, but thats about it. Anyone have any idea on how this could be?

I need some advice with a transistor in a turn signal circuit. Answered

I am working on a turn signal system for a recumbent trike and it isn't working correctly. It's based on your basic 555 timer to provide the flashing. An on-off-on toggle switch will select left or right. I didn't want to be running the 555 timer all the time so I thought I would power it through the switch. D1 and D2 ensure the timer is powered when left or right is selected while only energizing the correct transistor. The visible LEDs will be dash panel indicators and external light clusters will be connected to the jacks. The problem I am having is that both left and right lights flash with the switch in either position. I'm pretty sure that the 555 is actually powering both indicator LEDs on it's own through the bases of Q1 and Q2, instead of just switching them on and letting the current from the switch do the work. I only had generic transistors hanging around and I'm wondering if using MOSFETs would solve this problem? My understanding is that they would not conduct enough Gate to Drain current to power the LEDs.

Digital Music stand with timed page turning.

I really need to make a digital music stand.  Setting up multiple paper pages on a stand is extremely inconvenient.  It takes longer to set up the music than to play the song!  Plus, even with the arms extended on my music stand, it can only hold 4 pages max.  Some songs can be 10 pages or more. So here's what I'm thinking: A raspberry pi running a program to view .PDFs and a flat screen TV or monitor mounted to a music stand. W. Wayt Gibbs, here --> (http://spectrum.ieee.org/geek-life/hands-on/diy-handsfree-sheet-music) has already built the exact thing that I'm thinking of.  However, I'll be using this for drum music so my feet will be busy enough without having to use a foot pedal to turn the page (Maybe I'm not that coordinated. Definitely won't be chewing gum while playing!) So I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas about automatic page turning. My idea would be a .PDF viewer that can display 3 pages (so that the page turning doesn't have to be exact) and can be set to automatically turn the pages at a timed interval after i click start.  The problem with this is that each song will have a different timing.  Does anybody know of a program that can turn pages via a timer AND remember different timings for each file? I suppose I could just write the timing setting on the top of each .pdf and set it to that every time I open a file. Also, I'm not a computer programmer.  I have built a home theater pc which gave me a little knowledge.  But, when it comes to raspberry pi's I've never used one.  Is it powerful enough for what I'm proposing? Is that the route you would take? I'm also not sure what to use as an input device.  Maybe I'll just mount a percussion table to the drum rack somewhere and use a mouse on it. I'm open to any and all suggestions about every aspect of this idea. Thanks for any help or suggestions!

Why is it so hard for people to use their turn signals? I guess its way over some peoples heads? Answered

I drive allot for work, I see people endangering me and everyone they share the road with concealing their intentions to turn or change lanes. Most people I see just slamming on the brakes and turning are younger drivers who I suppose have not developed enough brain power to use the highly complicated device known as the turn signal. Others are just lazy and don't care if they get side swiped. I know its hard people but get your knuckles off the ground and check your blind spot and use your turn signals....

Direction/turn signal indicators making them brighter with led bulb I need help pls

Hi. I somtimes ride a 1985 yamaha ms50 pogal 50cc moped. It has an 6v electrial system where as modern day scooters are 12v. I bought a knew indicater relay for it and checked all the bulbs as the turn signal indicators are not so easy to see flashing. I mean, on average sunny day other road users would need to look hard to see them flashing. the bulbs are 6v 15w and both old and knew flasher relays gives output of 6v 40w. I would feel much safer when turning if I had a bulb that gives a brighter flash to give other road users a better idea when im turning. I can see on the web there is a 6v 5w and 10w bulb I can try or even 6v leds but I dont know much about leds. the stanadard factory fitted indicater buld 6v 15w gives an ok flash at night, but in sunny daylight I would need to be close up to see it flash which is no good! I don't want to change the originality of this little ped since it has been carefully taken care of over the years and has made it in intact into current times as is. I need to come up with somthing that will work and if I replace a buld with a 5w or 10w when it should be 15w I may get a brigher flash or just blow the bulb. I wonder was there a problem or just bad design with the indicator lights on the yamaha ms50 pogal when they first came out in the 1980's as I have seen a couple of them fitted with suzuki fz50 indicators and other makes of bike turn signal indicaters on them. I don't think the flashers are faulty I feel they where just made that way. I could be wrong. I suppose there could be a bad earth on the flashers. Sorry to go on so much about this. Im looking for your suggestions for a brighter indicator flashers which is purely for safety reasons. If car drivers can see where im turning, im less at risk of being nocked off by them. Im thinking a higher or lower wattage incandescent 6v buld or even a replacment 6v led buld ive seen on ebay but as I said. I know nothing about led bulbs or even if they will work on my moped. Would a equivalent 6v 15w led give a brigher flash than a 6v 15w tradisional incandesant bulb? can someone help me here pls Here's the led ive seen on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2pcs-E10-6V-9V-12V-24V-INDICATOR-LIGHT-BULB-LED-WL-ay-/330859527741?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash;=item4d08c3be3d these are the standard 6v 15w bulbs i want to replace with brighter led bulbs http://directshopping4u.com/6voltvehiclelighting/P244A10

Yes, i know about transistors and relays but these switches turn off as soon as the second current is stopped, how to make this change in switch permanent, i'll be precise, i'm working on a laser alarm system, and it works fine, but the thing is that when i block the laser, sure the buzzer goes off, but when the obstruction is moved, the buzzer turns off, how can this be kept on until turned off manually by a switch. i know it must be quite simple but i dont know, please help thanks

How do I build a gouge for a lathe? Answered

I recently built a spring pole lathe and I have not been able to turn any thing yet due to my lack of tools. The cheap set I ordered turned out to be small, flimsy, and arrived broken, they are being returned for a refund. I need a good gouge but dont want to spend 20 bucks for the tool when the whole lathe cost 14 bucks. I was thinking of taking a steel electrical EMS pipe and cutting it in half. Then sharpening the inside edge with a file. Would this work? Is there a better way of doing this or do I just need to go ahead and but the 20 dollar gouge for Harbor Freight. Thanks

Dell computer question?- not turning on

I have a Dell dimension 2400 that while using it turned off and never powered back on. It was raining that day and I was on the computer and I heard what it sounded like a spark and I kinda saw it too behind where the computer case is(light was off so I saw like a small spark on the wall). I have the computer on a protected surge power strip. This happend before a month before and it was fixed with a new power supply. It didn't turn on also the next morning and it was raining also in the night. I'm thinking a voltage spike cause it .So this time I put in a new power supply and it wont turn on. The power supplys both work(new and older one). So what could it be that is causing it not to turn on? Anyone ever had this problem before? There is a green LED inside that turns on when pluged in but thats it. The power buttons LEDs don't turn on when pushed to power on.
