Instructables not updated

Last night, about 2300 PST, I posted an Instructable I've been drafting for a couple weeks now.  It has been over 15 hours, and the Instructable still fails to show up in my profile feed, and in the main page under recent Instructables, It also shows it as being a draft in the summary view of the menu. But inside the profile there is a link to it as an Instructable, it just does not show up on the feed. My other Instructables each showed up almost immediately after publishing. Is there some kind of problem with the system, or did I hit an update cycle just after it finished or something?

Updated Frisbee

Just in case you're interested, I have just added an extra step to my Cardboard Frisbee Instructable. You may not have seen it, since I published it almost two years ago, but  I've started using a modified version to help teach compass bearings and angles in my maths lessons.

Site Update

So maybe I've got the right spot for this comment this time (Thanks, Kiteman, for the wake up), but here goes..the last time the site had an update wasn't too bad. Things were relatively easy to see and find, and the previous style had been a little cumbersome--now it's a big mishmash and confusing as hell. What is it with geeks who can't leave what works well enough alone, but have to try and fix it? (I'm looking at you here, too, Firefox.) Pay attention here folks! The project of the day humongous header at the top of the page--it's frickin' annoying!! It was good to be able to see all the projects in a row, very neat and organized, and then go to the one I'm interested in. Surely I'm not the only one? I can't get here everyday and now the different projects are extremely hard to catch up on. I'm not trying to be mean, nor am I against constructive change or fixing problems, but changing something just to be different doesn't always work. People come here to see the projects, etc., To connect on ways to do things or build things, not to see a website where someone wants to show off their building skills. Please take a poll of your readers or something and see what everyone else thinks. If I'm a minority opinion I'll just learn to lump it, but I still won't have to like it!

The New Update

This forum topic is in the bugs section. I don't know... It's just my opinion... I wasn't online yesterday, but today, I came back, and (we) had a wonderful surprise... I like changes. I just like them, when they're the other way around... I've already written my thoughts here: https://www.instructables.com/community/Have-you-seen-the-update-to-your-profile-page/ I'm sure the staff has worked very hard on the new update, but why? What will Instructables earn from the new update? Why is it better than before? Am I confused and this is an April Fool's prank? There are many members that don't know what the forums are, and don't have a way of expressing their feelings about the new bug. It would be great if this was explained in an email. I know that Autodesk acquired Instructables a few years ago. The newsletter has changed and has become a bit more Autodesk-y. Does this has anything to do with that? This update might be better for viewers, I don't know. However, if it isn't comfortable for us, content producers, Instructables will just have to re-use old Instructables, because we will leave... Please take into account what we have written. Thank you. Maybe this is a Part oe for the update. I might be wrong. Thanks in advance for the replies?

Health Update

A few sundays ago, I fell asleep at the wheel of my car mid-day (thankfully Ellen my wife was with me and I swerved and unnerved her enough to wake me).  Of course I scheduled a follow up sleep study to be done (amazing how booked up they are) and that is taking place this coming Monday - Tuesday.   It will probably result in my "pressure" being upped to around 15-18 on the machine; which is getting high.  Just wanted those of you that know me why I wouldn't be posting Monday afternoon in case anyone noticed :-)

A change up top, and a bunch of cleanup under the hood!  We've been working on the header bit by bit to try and make it clearer without taking up too much page space.  I think it's going well... We've also been cleaning up code underneath, so please let us know by posting a bug category forum topic, if you find anything we broke.  Most of the invisible changes are javascript and CSS.

I'm sure you've noticed that Instructables now have categories, but also check out the fun ways to combine categories, the new sorting and organizing features of your library, and the increased control over commenting (ability to delete, or remove and leave a stub, if there are responses). Updated Revolver

Updated pictures. I tried an 8 turret afterwards and it was too heavy and big, so I stuck with a 4 turret, which keeps it light. My picture quality is crap, I hope to get my hands on a camera that actually works soon, but here it is. 1. A picture of the whole thing. Things that have changed: - 4 Turret has been added. - Iron sights have been added. - Charging handle has been added. - Handle has been improved. - Fore-handle has been replaced with a grip. 2. A picture without the stock. 3. Looking down my original (and very effective) sights. 4. The gun at an angle. Notice the charging handle sticking out and the size of the grip. 5. FPS shot. Not much to say here. This is ighly improved, I hope to be able to make detachable clips soon.

Preview is not updating

I am in the process of drafting a new instructable. I make changes, hit save and they seem to be saved. But whenn I go to preview, I'm not seeing my changes. I'm not sure if I should publish the instructable or not since I'm not sure it will publish the most recent changes. Again, when I'm in edit mode and editing my steps it seems to save the changes there. But when I hit the preview button it opens the new window and most recent changes are not showing. At first, I thought there might be a time delay, so I waited several hours. But last time I logged in, I'm still not seeing the most recent changes to my draft showing up in the Preview. Any suggestions on what I should do? Thanks in advance!  Also, I'm doing this on my iPad. Are there any issues with creating instructables from an iPad?

BBSS **UPDATED**

It's done. I decided to scrap the shell idea because it didn't benefit the gun at all. It can be easily modded for shells though, it still has the open breach type thing. I finally made a trigger, loosely based off of spider massacre. So now, it's a single shot. It's very powerful. Right now I have it shooting 60+ feet with 2 #64's. It fires grey or red rods. I prefer grey. I'll post it sometime soon. New stuff - -New barrel that uses oodammo (oodalumps' ammo). I call this the lumpy barrel.-Ammo holder for oodammo.

Updates and junk

Howdy. It's that guy who posts like once every 5 months and says he'll make something but never does. I try, I really do, but then I lose interest in whatever I'm working on, forget about it, and get back into class work. Just to reiterate, I'm on my last semester of college and I just had a job interview, so crossing my fingers that I'll get the job. It's for an associate software engineer position if anyone cares. Programming and crud. Woo. But it'll pay quite handsomely, enough so I may invest in more K'nex in the future. Anyway, once I finish college and get the job (I'm like 85% sure I have it already) I'll pretty much be free to my hobbies after work. I'll have moved out and be living with my friend's parents (awkward) until he moves out and gets a house, in which then I'll live with him until I'm ready to get my own. The point of mentioning this is that other than playing games with him, I won't really have much to do so I'll probably get back into K'nex and do a lot more than I have been since starting college. Hope the community hasn't died off yet. I'm working on a capstone project to graduate, a website that hosts an IRL game of sorts that I came up with. I don't want to link to it yet, but just be on the lookout for when I do. I plan on getting a demo of the game up within the next two weeks or so.  So, here's the last thing I was working on before I went on another hiatus. I basically wanted to make a just for fun, but still decent gun that'd perform better than the UMP. I call it the Ninjato, going along with the SMRI theme. The ninjato is often portrayed in Hollywood as a small, katana-like sword wielded by ninjas. So I considered this gun in a similar relation to the SMRI, something based more on compactness and stealth rather than a signature weapon. The idea is that if it were a real firearm, it'd be a compact, internally silenced SMG. There are some obvious resemblances to the SMRI (I'm really liking the rail system and sights I developed)  and the UMP. It was haphazardly thrown together in many ways, such as a really cruddy trigger guard I meant to be temporary and no trigger system yet. I was also meaning to get a stock on it and get it firing before I showed any pictures, but of course I never did and I've left it to sit unnoticed for too long. The magazine was meant to have an internal pusher and of course attach UMP style, though it had broken pieces so I was iffy on it. I thought about using it to make a horizontal-mag weapon, though. Overall, the gun looks weird I admit, especially without a stock, but I figured I'd show it anyway. I don't plan on finishing it. Anyway, my next project I'm thinking is to go even simpler than the Ninjato. I thought that I'd more easily complete a smaller weapon and apparently and SMG-esque weapon still wasn't small enough to keep my attention. Well, my natural calling is pistols so I figured with the revival of essentially the sidearm fad, I'll have a go at making a version 2 of my TDSS, again mostly just for fun. And also considering that Instructables somehow lost my old TDSS instructable, it seems fitting. I'm very busy, so I really hope I can dish this one out ASAP.

OodAst Update 3.5 *Further updated to 3.6*

Well I still didn't feel up to making an entirely new weapon so I tried improving the oodast...again. The main concern with everyone last time was reliability so I fixed that. It's a lot more reliable. I'll spare you the rest of the details until the movie so just watch it. For those who don't want to or can't want watch the video for some reason here's what I did. I changed it to a yellow rod magazine. Tan was alright but really big compared to the rest of the pistol and it left a lot of room for reliability errors. Blue is simply too small for my tastes. This is a nice average. I changed the mag pusher a little so that an extra part extends around the guide rod and it helps keep the pin locked more securely using a "weaker" connection to keep it compact. The magazine was actually moved forward a bit. I'm not sure how much of an increase to range this gave but I guess every few inches can make a difference. The mag "tilter" is now a straight pull back mechansim instead of a push up. I find this a little more comfortable. I also made another minor mod that stills somewhat nice is that I finally made a new safety to work with the version 3 series entirely. It's pretty simple. There's a black hand and a blue cap on the trigger guard bottom facing in opposite directions (don't get in the way of your fingers at all) and when the gun is cocked you can turn the trigger guard so that the blue cap fits in between one of the gaps on the trigger. The black hand provides a fast way to turn off safety by just pushing it back from underneath the guard to the side again. It doesn't get in the way of the tilter slide so you can load the gun while it's cocked without shooting yourself in the face. Sorry no pictures yet. The video should suffice until I get home from school.

Status update (Update: Barackuda soon to post)

Hey, peoples. I'm rather sad to see the community dying but I figured I'll cling on a little longer, try to spark some more activity if possible. I see people still posting instructions, so that's good. Just wish we'd keep more discussion going on the forums. Anyway, a couple things: Just to show what I have around, I tried to make something after my Barackuda but didn't end up going anywhere. I just wanted to have something around, so I remade and improved my SMRI model. This version was designed solely for looks based off my last version. I couldn't really be bothered to try making this one shoot. It still uses Red's stock because I couldn't think of a better design at the time. Anywho, this wasn't meant to be the impressive bit, just something to show while yabbering. =P With the Barackuda and the SMRI, I realized that I'm still limited in a few pieces. I desperately need more dark greys, oranges, and black hands. I also realized I feel bad destroying guns and never keeping them around so that I can build new ones. I figure I might as well build my collection up so I can keep more guns around. So I've ordered more pieces. I'll get them probably some time early next week. I'm hoping to build something right away. I'm thinking of revisiting my Barackuda to see if I can improve the trigger and feed ramp. I might redesign it entirely. I'm hoping to attempt a repeating slingshot of some form at some point too. But it's an area I've never worked in before so I might get discouraged pretty quick. I dunno, I need to try actually building these ideas I have sitting in my head for years. I'll post more in here once I get the pieces and start building something. Update 2/19/16: I'm mostly finished with my new version of the Barackuda. I filled in the empty gaps on the rods of the magazine to make it fuller looking. The trigger -should- work better now but I just noticed it struggles to set when it's still pulled back while cocking. I suspect I just need a better band setup to resolve this, otherwise it works fine when you manually push the trigger forward. Last, the stock was changed entirely to give the bolt a rail to glide inside of with a solid bolt stop right after the trigger engages, allowing for a quick and smooth action. The handle connection is also more sturdy, so the stock is surprisingly rigid. Overall I'm much more pleased with this version, as long as I can figure out the trigger bands this might be posted. I'll begin working on yet another remake of the UMP soon. Update 11/9/16: Man, the year sure flew by. I apologize for never really getting around to posting the Barackuda before. This time I think I've finally gotten over my perfectionism. I've adjusted the stock to keep the same track design but attached it differently and otherwise made the rest of the stock use less pieces. I've figured out a (I think) new pair of K'nex sights more precise than our usual chunky ones, not that it'll help much. The trigger and back of the gun has been adjusted to block the pin further back, hopefully improving range slightly. The front of the gun was made more compact and flat at the bottom to allow potential changes to the front of the magazine in the future. It also makes muzzle loading much easier in tandem with the new ramp. The ramp is also simpler, more consistent, and hopefully offers better range than my other ones. Finally, the magazine has been adjusted to be easier to load and hopefully more reliable. I'd finally say this is a practical war weapon alternative. I'll post this...hopefully sooner rather than later. This time I mean it.

Pocket Siren updated!

I've just updated my popular Pocket Siren instructable with improved cutting files. The changes I have made are: Turbine blades widened at the base - massive amounts of use revealed a weakness in the base of the first version. Turbines engraved in the laser - rather than sanding them down, I placed a circle of engraving over the blades (watch your laser settings, make sure it's set to engrave). The axle is now also acrylic, not wooden, but you don't have to buy any acrylic rod! Lanyard/key-chain loop added to the central layer.

Browser news and updates

Firefox 3.0 RC 1 takes the lead on speed. The Mozilla dev team claims to have squeezed more performance out of Firefox 3.0. The betas were fast, so has the team been able to get more out of their code?Over the past few months I have benchmarked several incarnations of Firefox 3.0 beta. My last benchmark of Firefox 3.0 (using the SunSpider JavaScript benchmark), which looked at Beta 5, showed the browser to be the fastest of the pack, comfortably beating all the competition.UPDATE: I just upgraded: there is no "back page" button, and most of my extension are GONE: chatzilla had an updated version however.SECOND UPDATE: the first update problem was MY fault :-)FireFox 3.0 RC 1 news blog. The Beta is available here !

Instructables Collection Update

I think it high time that the Instructables crew redesigned the collections aspect of the site, the collections are full of odd behaviour, missing features and bugs that need to be resolved I have compiled a few issues which should be addressed, comment if you think this is an important issue and with any bugs not listed below. - Newly created collections often won't appear under profile tab until the user has logged out and logged back in. - Collections have no clear way to add a custom cover photo - No way to delete a published or unpublished collection - Collections occasionally getting deleted for no apparent reason I believe the Instructables team should address this issue very soon, just the presence of your comment can help bring this to the attention of the Instructables staff.

Profile Page Updates

Hello Everyone! Many of you have noticed and commented on the site updates that went live on Thursday, October 20, which included substantial design changes to the member profile page. The profile page is near to many of your hearts as the front door to your substantial investments in Instructables, and while some have found these changes disturbing, we believe that they're very much in the community's best interests. I wanted to reach out just to let you know that we have given the new design a great deal of thought and attention, and to share with you some of the reasons behind the changes. First, to clear up some ambiguity about the current state of affairs: The public member profile is stage one of two major changes to the site that will work together. Stage two, which is well underway but not released yet, involves the private profile page (currently the "you" page) and will make access to aspects of your presence on the site much more accessible. Full lists of your own content will soon be available on a full-featured (and much more beautiful) private view of the member page; meanwhile, this content is all available in the "you" section. So the sense that your own content has gone missing is temporary. Second, the High-Level Goals: Clearer, more accessible design. Our old member page, say what you will, had a lot of buttons and options. On the whole, we know that most people don't take the trouble to drill down into the various categories. We want to help you all build large audiences of new appreciators, and while an infinitely detailed catalog of an author's content is appropriate for some, the breadth of activity on Instructables can make it difficult for new users encountering the site for the first time to understand what Instructables is about. Fundamentally this is what the new design is for: to help people understand, at a glance, what a given author is up to on Instructables. Highlighting Engagement vs Cataloguing Activity. Different people interact with Instructables in different ways, but our member page has never reflected this subtlety. It has always presented the most recent Instructables and comments, even for authors who contribute exclusively to the forums, or through favoriting and following other users. We felt that your activity on Instructables should be presented front and center, because it more evenly describes the way in which you participate in the community. Many members participating in this very discussion have benefitted from this choice, even as they challenge it. Forum posts used to live buried under a tab on the left; now, the contribution of a forum topic can appear right at the top if that's how the author participates in the community. We wanted to see how authors engage, and we felt it was ultimately more important than being able to drill through every piece of historical content hierarchically. Audience vs Self. The old profile page served "my view of me" and "my audience's view of me" somewhat evenly. With the changes we've made, and the changes in the pipeline, we're taking a stance. The public page is for my audience, the private page is for me. We're confident the new design better serves authors' audiences, even if it has some weaknesses for the author's own view. The author-centric side is coming, please hang in there! Surfacing Older Content. At HQ, we have frequent discussions about the "evergreen-ness" of the Instructables authors post. A great project from 2009 is still a great project, even though the wider internet has a strong preference for "new" over "good". But it's a struggle for us: we can't put every good project on the homepage forever, or new projects wouldn't have a chance. So we have to strike a balance. The new member page helps in this regard: if your old-but-awesome project still gets some attention and activity, it'll show up in your timeline as people favoriting the old project. So your profile becomes a place of discovery, where I can see "whoa, look at that cool thing that this person made 3 years ago!". Previously, the old project would have been buried under several clicks from the landing page, generating almost zero traffic. Add to that the new ability to select "top projects", and you can see that we're trying to help you keep your best projects in the limelight. See new features below. Third, New Features to Help Authors: Top-Five Projects. DIY Projects are at the core of the Instructables experience, and we listened to authors who make different kinds of things, but want to treat their Instructables Profile like a Portfolio. Randofo is one of the community's best-known and prolific Arduino Gurus, but it's a fact that an Arduino Project of his is a much bigger time investment than some of his smaller food projects. In fact, did you know that he's authored 38 food projects? Now, randofo has the opportunity to present his most-relevant work first, rather than leaving it to his audience to figure out. Right now, he seems to be all about Halloween. Activity Feed. Love it or hate it, it's here to stay. We felt that having an activity feed on the member page was the most effective way to answer the most important question for a member page to answer: How does this member participate in the community? While that information was certainly available in the old layout, divining it required an audience member to click through all the tabs, reading every piece of content to completion. There was nothing "glanceable" about the information architecture, except perhaps the achievements (which we've kept). We believe that the activity feed, with the "top Instructables" feature in particular, makes it much easier to determine at a glance how a member participates. Fourth, It's a Living Document: We're watching your comments and feedback closely, and I expect that you'll see some pieces that you're missing return. I can't comment on specifics right now, but I know there are some statistics and counters that may have value. We agree, and we'll respond. But there was a whole lot of "extra" information on the page to begin with, and we wanted to start over as cleanly as possible. UX & Bugs. With a big feature like this, there are bound to be growing pains. Hopefully, you've already seen some improvement with regard to the delay in setting your "top Instructables" and having those reflected on your page. There's still a little blip, but it's down to about 10 seconds now, vs the 20 minutes when we first released it. Sorry about that! We'll also be looking carefully at how the page looks, making sure that we aggregate activity events such that no one event type (ahem, favorites!) takes over, etc. That's all for now. Hope having a little context helps put the changes in context. If it can't bring everyone onto the same page, we at least hope that it'll make them a little less out-of-the-blue. Thank you to you all who have written your comments, and who care so deeply for the community of Instructables!

Account email not updating....

I've changed my account email address and updates are still being sent to the old address even though it shows that it's been updated in the account info.

Thumbnail/preview not updating

In my last couple of instructables, I have decided after publishing that a different photo would work better as the primary photo. However, once published, the new thumbnail either a) doesn't update at all on the Instructables pages, or b) updates on the Instructables pages, but not when the link is posted elsewhere, like Facebook.  Is there a way this can be fixed?
