Surely there's an app...? (Software recommendations, please)

So, I have this new HP Sprout that I totally wasn't expecting. It's got a large touchscreen and this cool projector-scanner-touchmat combo that should be really useful for... something. The first thing I actively want is to be able to create files for my laser cutter (running Lasercut5.3), just by drawing with fingertips or stylus.  In my head, I see a version of Inkscape that works on the touchmat, but only responds to the stylus (to save weird lines from knuckles, elbows...).  I have Inkscape downloaded, but it won't work with the touchmat. Second, it would be nice to start learning how to create are actually 3d already, that could then become lasercut-able or 3d printable. Again, it would be nice to use the full potential of the machine, so what software would you recommend? Third... what?  have you got any cool ideas? On top of all this is the consideration of cost.  Free would be nice - if you are a software developer, I don't mind having a go with Beta products (I'm known for breaking code, so if it can survive me...).

How do I separate one of a group of Vector Graphics on a page of many?

I downloaded a page of free vector images. In Illustrator, they are all combined together into one group. If I "ungroup" them, each image is then separated into it's many parts. For example, if one of the images is a flower made up of lots of separate pieces, how do I get just those flower pieces combined so I can separate the flower? Thanks.

Free Instructional Illustrations

I want to create some instructional illustrations for an instructable to be published here. Who's? I still don't know. There will be no cost to it. Just tell me about the instructable that you are working on so we can work through it. How does it work The illustration will be based upon a photo. You will take a picture that you want to use in your instructable and I will vectorize it by tracing over the image. Then, I will send the vectorized image back to you so you can publish it. Copyrights The work rights will be under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported (CC BY-SA 3.0). That means that I just need you to put my name on the credits of your post. I will use the images in my portfolio and/or will be published on my website. About Me I am a graphic designer and web developer that decided to join the United States Coast Guard a few years ago. I loved my job but I wanted to do something different and serve. I love what I do now but I miss designing so much that I've decided to do it for free. I guess is still serving the community.

How to make a tv screen's electron beam constant, not pulsed?

I got an old black and white mini radio tv. I hacked the yoke to turn it into a vector display. The problem is that the beam electron beam is pulsed, rather than constant,  causing dotted lines. How do I make the beam constant? Should I bypass the internal RF input circuitry and replace the normal input with something else? Is there an easier solution?

Aviary, an online graphics suite, is out of private beta

This happened some time ago, but I thought that maybe there are still some people who haven't heard about Aviary and would enjoy it.Basically, Aviary is a graphics suite (with, amongst others, a photoshop and illustrator-like program). It's nowhere near professional, but the programs are cool and easy to use. The big innovation here is that they run in your browser without the need to install anything, so you can access them anywhere. Besides that, the good people at Aviary try to build a community of artists so that you can easily share what you've made etc. Only a small part of the suite is available for free though , the image editor is free but the vector editor you need to pay for. I'd personally still rather use photoshop and illustrator, but the idea that it is possible to run complex programs like this so smoothly in your browser is quite intriguing.the link to check it out is obviously www.aviary.com

Recommendations on Python GUI tools

Heya everybody; Just got permanently done with schoolin', and now that I have free time again I'd like to start making some slicker interfaces for some of the open-source design tools out there (for PCB design, CAD, FEA). I know its an ambitious project; but its a long-term goal. Tried a couple different programming languages, and so far Python seems like the most flexible and powerful. Figure I should start messing around with GUI libraries. So the question: Which of the myriad options would you recommend for GUI creation from Python? The end result I am going for is something along the lines of the computer screens in "Iron Man" series, preferably with support for vector graphics. Example of the desired style shown below. Suggestions/advice? Also, anyone interested in collaborating on this, let me know!

Anyone Want Some Vinyl Cut?

I recently acquired a new vinyl cutter, and wanted to spread the word.... I can cut custom artwork, or if you have a vector graphic ready to go... I can cut it for you. Consider it a sweet tattoo for all your stuff. Customize projects, laptops, instruments, windows, your car or bike, pretty much anything. I am trying to start up a small business and this would be a great opportunity to hook up some good people with good product really cheap to build up a bit of previous work. I am a member of this site, not just coming here to solicit business or something. Just willing to do some cool stuff for you all for a good price. No job too small, i just want to get a variety of work under my belt. Got a weird question..?? let me know. If you are interested, send me a shout at : flea@toomanymorons.com
