Virus on 'ible Home-made-lava-lamp-%5bupdated-for-the-last-time%5d/ ???

I was clicking through "next step"s on this 'ible and got a persistent popup insisting I had a virus on my computer.  I know this scam is to actually put one ON my puter, so I kept trying to cancel out of it.  It took me to a site that was "scanning" and I unplugged my net cable before anything could download, shut down, and rebooted only to do a full Norton scan.  I think I avoided harm, but please look into this!

Didn't know how else to contact you. It seems that your website is infected by a HTML Script Virus. Every time I click on a new link or tab, my ESET Antivirus reports an infection by HTML/ScrInject.B.Gen virus.

Virus alert: trojan.pidief.f

While viewing the instructable "Wall Clip-Hang Video controllers on Walls" I received a virus alert for trojan.pidief.f .  Evidently it was trying to change something in acrobat reader or was from the adobe file I was viewing.  My virus software caught and eliminated the virus but I thought others should be aware of the risk.  This is some information I found on this virus. Trojan.Pidief.F is a trojan the exploits the Adobe Acrobat and Reader Collab 'getIcon()'

I'd like to know how to create a harmless virus that will block anyone from entering a certain website. But I'd like to be able to remove the virus after a period of time. Or at least do something to get revenge, harmless, but still revenge. They really ticked me off. I'm sure you've all been there. Any help would be great.

netbook virus?

My daughter's netbook has an icon in the bottom-right that keeps wanting me to activate a malware protection program which I think is bogus. Every time I try to open anything it pops up and error message in the corner saying "file iexplore.exe is infected by W32/Blaster.worm please activate malware protection to protect your computer". It says this for anything I try to open. I tried running MSCONFIG to disable it but got the same message. I can't get any virus programs online b/c of this error. Any help would be greatly appreciated. (Got same error trying system restore as well). Thanks,

Virus/trojan infections on site

There have been a lot of trojans popping up from this site over the past week.  I suspect it may be coming in through the ads, like it did at least once before.  I can visit a page on the site (never the same one, so it's inconsistent) and it will redirect to a bogus page warning of an infection.  Yesterday, after this happened, I had a fake malware removal program on my computer that was masking for a trojan.  Malwarebytes was able to remove it.  The same thing has happened a few other times on this site, but thankfully no more infections have gotten through.  It's only been happening to me on the Instructables site.  Between this and the flood of collections, I'm about ready to quit the site entirely.

Pros and viruses

Fellow-pro-members, I have been seeing a lot of complaints about viruses / redirection etc. in the last couple of weeks. It may be my imagination, but most / all seem to be from non-pro members. Are pro members getting these problems (especially if you click through from the newsletter)? I haven't seen any of the problems (running FF in Wondows, with Norton installed and up-to-date).

Virus Instruction?

I was googling to find a solution to the aftermath of a virus on a friend's computer.  What do I find?  Instructions on how to construct a virus.  Most of the posts were incredibly illiterate.  Big surprise, huh?  Why does a site that offers much quality allow this s**t?    Are there any awake moderators out there?

When Browsing Instructables...

Every so often, when I browse the Ibles Website, I get prompted in a message box to download some antivirus Software. It is obviously not antivitus software, a virus in disguise, so I get out of the message screen as fast as possible. Is this an actual virus on Instructables?

A virus wiped my C: drive and deleted Windows Vista off my Notebook.

I downloaded this program off the Internet, and it wiped my C: drive. When I turn on my notebook it loads the Bios and then goes to the loading screen, it stops there and and doesn't even display the vista logo. I have tried the system restore time and time again but it always says that it fails. I went through the software and warranty booklet, and it says that you don't need a disk for system restore as it is already installed on another drive. I was not given a operating system disk for it to reload vista. I do not know what to do, can somebody please help. I think that all I need to do is buy another vista, but don't want to pay the hefty price. what can I do?

Google Jump/Re-direct "Virus" Help!!

Has anyone else had issues the last few days, with an Adware/Trojan which re-directs links and addresses? I have delt with them before yet this one seems particularly nasty. Not only does it re-direct every link in all search engines to random sites it also blocks many if not all sites associated with adware removal tools/tech support etc. Example: HJ this is not attainable to send techs logs. I can't get to my email because wont open. It begun as just a simple re-direct script but it seems the sites which I have been re-directed to are flooding my comp with ad-ware/fake virus removal tools/security warnings. One of the spawning virus's has managed to remove my "task bar" and "My computer" from the desktop. My comp is just spawning trojans and adware at the moment, every time I do a full scan there is atleast 40 more spawned by the time it is finished (15min). At the moment the only thing I have is Super Anti Spyware, which the guys there are obvious on this as their 15min updates seem to be catching the new creations... But I'm fighting a loosing battle here... I know it is probably beyond most here to help me, yet I was more interested to see if any one else has been affected, as the site that I can get to for tech assistant is flooded out with... "Another Google re-direct Virus Help!" in their forums... Google has to be PO'd about this one.

USB drive virus? Do I have it? What should I do?

So a time ago I got an worm on a laptop, when I looked up this worms spesifications on, it said that it automaticly copies itself to external drives connected with USB, through autorun. (I also got a couple of trojans etc). And I used an external harddrive, a memory card in a usb slot and an ipod 5g, before I discovered it. I freaked out of the viruses and reinstalled and formated the computer. Recently I have also scanned all three computers that could get infected, with MBAM and combofix (someone checked my logs) and all three computers were clean. ps. MSE and MBAM didn't fing anything on the drives, when scanning through them. my questions: -how can the worm not have spread itself to them? (is that even possbile?) -lets say that I have that worm on a drive, will it spread itself if I turn off autorun, plug in the drive and drag one file at the time over to for example dropbox and then format the drives? -can I be completely sure it isn't a virus there, the AV's didn't find anyting..... If you have any better ways to check it or something like that please let me know. because I cant reformat and all that jazz with the ipod 5g.  ps. here (see pictures) is one way I tried to check if there was any viruses there, although I don't know if it works (?)  (the drives in the pictues are an external harddrive and an ipod 5g)

Could I have gotten a virus from a Facebook link?

Hey! I was on a forum earlier today, when someone linked to a facebook account, so I thought, why not? I went to it in Mozilla with Noscript and adblock, but was prompt to enter username/password since I usually dont use firefox for that + noscript blocks that anyways right? So I pasted it in Google Chrome (where my password is stored in the browser..) from there I got directly in, but just came to the front page og Facebook... Why did this happen? Could it be that I have been sent to a fake site to give me malware :s ? here is the link: Ps. I checked just now and if you look at here : and here: (this is how it looks while loading) , you see that the links is very different.. Is the link in the second picture a normal one? And also note what I have circled around in red down to the left... Any ideas? I scanned my pc with MBAM, SUPERantispyware, AVAST and Spyboot S & D, but if there is a virus at all, could it be encrypted, will they be able to detect it? sorry for nagging, just getting a little paranoid :p p.p.s If I click on that link and then try to press a notification that will bring me back to the homepage too.. (but not other ones, only the first one I click after clicking the link, per session..) Thank you for answers :)

Man injects himself with computer virus?

It may seem strange, but a scientist has implanted an ID chip with a computer virus inside it into his body so that whenever he passes an ID scanner, the virus will copy itself onto the scanner and spread throughout the system. It was made to prove a point that if somebody were to create a virus for the ID chipping system, it would be easy and could kill somebody if they had, for example, a pacemaker. A scary thought!

USB drive virus, scan through, restart with external harddrive in

Hey! So last night I started scanning through my computers, scanned the whole computer with MSE, MBAM, PANDA ONLINE and superantispyware and it was clean. Then I plugged in my external harddrive to scan, I scanned that one with MSE and then with superantispuyware and then MBAM. It didn't find anything. Then I scanned the whole computer AND the external harddrive. First with MSE, it came up clean. Then with superantispyware, it was also clean, but it found som tracking cookies on the pc, and I had to restart the pc. But heres the problem, I forgot to take the external harddrive out of the pc while restarting... Can this (if there is a virus) have made it boot into the computer, so AV's can't find it anymore? (I had autoplay turned off through "control panel" - "hardware and sound" and "autoplay") Lets say that there is a virus and it did do this, will reinstalling and formatting get rid of it anyways? Is this tool to be trusted? Does it work? : please say if you know of any better ways to detect this. *More backround info in my last topic here (including list of viruses that could have something to do with it.

Malware on bone

I recently watched Bones (it was on FOX) , and they had a computer genius who somehow killed a person, arranged a code out of the victim's spine, and carved malware onto bone, shutting off their computer system's fans. My question is this: is it possible to carve a worm/bug/virus on to bone (or anything for that matter) so that, when scanned, it wreaks havoc on computers or mainframes?

Inappropriate Users or Bots

We have created this topic for users that cheat, steal, spam, drop viruses, etc. The topic is also for those who are reporting users as bots, or users that are computer generated and carry out tasks that they are (often maliciously) programmed to do. We posted this topic on account of a bot user known as N-Factor. This bot has gone around Instructables in Computer software guides and has dropped the same virus over six times.

Viruses - Are they pure evil?

Recently I came across a racist online, and he really disgusted me. I won't go into the details of what he said, but since he threatened me, I decided I wanted to do something about it. Now, what I'm suggesting would be making another account on the website it's on and acting all friendly, then asking for his email (and he seems stupid enough to give it) and then sending him an attachment on the email to crash his computer. I know it's illegal, but he threatened to come and kill my family, so I could say it was in self defense. So what do you all think? Should I go ahead with it, or would it be a bad idea? The website is youtube by the way, so with him on there (and I think he may live near me, as one of his videos somewhat shows) I'm scared to post anything (and yes I know he won't kill me, but it's freakin me out here) And if you don't agree, he seems to support Hitler if you catch my drift.

Virus Scan scam on instrucables!

For the past week or so, after clicking an instrucable or step within one, I am sometimes re-directed to one of those sites that claim you have a virus and should do their free scan.  It's getting really annoying as you can't easily leave these sites.  Has someone hacked the site? Update: On 12/31/09 my security software deleted a trojan after once again being re-directed to the Virus Scan site.

Phony Virus Warning Message Popup

I occasionally get virus warning messages on this site that are fake. How do I know that they're fake? I have a mac and the popups have a Windows 7 appearance. They also say my PC is infected. What happened? Now I have to force quit safari because it gives you one option, accept. No close, exit, or cancel.

SONY must pay $150 for music virus damages; how to collect?

A few years ago Sony BMG Music was putting wicked rootkit viruses on the PC's of anyone who played their CDs with a computer. Less than 2 years ago, the US FTC settled with Sony that they should no longer hide malware on CD's and that people whose PC's got infected with their viruses be paid up to $150 for the expense of fixing the PC's. Soon after that, Sony sued the company that designed their viruses for $12,000,000 to pay for the damage. While searching the internet I find lots of cheering but no info on how to claim this settlement. I'm sure there are many people out there whose PC's were infected a few years ago after playing a Sony CD who wouldn't mind getting $150 now.

So I downloaded Arduino 1.01 from the link provided at the Arduino website and then my anti virus software ate it... I mean, said it was unsafe, malicious and removed it from my computer. Anyone else have this issue?  Is the software safe and my anti virus software (norton 360 2012) just stupid or is it actually malicious?

HELP!!! My computers going crazy!

After I installed the drivers to a crappy web cam, I think it did something else. I was checking my processes tab and found a new one...I think. I can't tell exactly what its called because the first letter is either a capital i or a lowercase L but both from what I looked up aren't good. The full name is either isass.exe or Lsass.exe. Everything is running real slow and I've check the system startup to see if it was there also but it wasn't. I can't end the process either. I haven't rebooted yet only because after reading one of the descriptions it said it started to take affect when you do. I'm running spybot now. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated! If you have a SONY product you're screwed. Especially SONY USB products for PC's. Drop the bomb on SONY and let them go OOB with a bang!!! Love your Playstation? Just hack the $#!+ out of it! SONY forfeited their DMCA rights. Stop brown-nosing SONY or you'll get computer-AIDS! They haven't learned their lesson. Search for SONY USB ROOTKIT and get as pi$$ed as me! SONY is the reason I haven't touched Windows since their first illegal megahack in 2005. They either owe me a fortune or I own their sorry @$$3$!!! (By default they acknowledge my Pandora's Box/Predictive Music Synth tech, since they did not choose to instead compensate me for actual damages by "SPECIFIC HARM MUSIC" ... which they did not acknowledge as Malware). I am not liable for this rant. I have first amendment rights and this is true.
