My paper slicer got warped in a hot car (16"*16" plastic platform with bladed swing arm). Can I un-warp it in my oven? Answered

The same day a lighter wrapped in leather exploded (ripping through the leather), a credit card got Dali-clock-afied, and... so on. the paper slicer is made of thick hard plastic, more like pvc than rubbermade... I was thinking I could set my oven on low and put a damp cloth in a sheet pan and then put the slicer on top of that. What do you think?

Am I using this guitar humidifier correctly? Answered

I recently acquired this Planet Waves Acoustic Guitar Humidifier, and on the package it says no leaks because the holes are on the side. I can only store my guitar (in its case) on its side, so one side is facing downwards. I am putting in the minimum recommended water amount, but i am still worried it will leak. Will it leak? Will I have to store the case laying flat? I really don't want my new acoustic to crack or warp, but i also don't want it to collect water, as this will mess up the wood. Please help!!!

What is a good way to cut vinyl records? ?

I want to cut vinyl records in half (or a little less) to use in a sculpture. I want the records to remain flat - to avoid warping. Most of the suggesting I've seen on the internet involve heat, but warn about warping. I have basic equipment, and I'd like to avoid buying more for this project. Any suggestions?

How can I cut vinyl records for a pickguard? Answered

I'm trying to cut a vinyl record to use as a pick guard on a guitar. I have tried to use scissors after heating it with a heat gun, but it always ends up warped. I have tried to flatten it with more heat, but have found that this is futile. It either becomes too hot and burns, or it remains warped. Any suggestions?

How do you make Zel-Gel, like the stuff they used in Time Warp with the Fuel Girls?

It is really expensive, 100 usd per gallon... I don't have that type of money, and I was wondering if anyone knows how to make it

How can I brace the L-shaped aluminum bar to take the stress of the door being automatically lifted without warping the bar or the top panel of the door? Reshaping Rondo'ed pepakura items? Answered

I've done some digging, and I keep getting mixed answers on this. I have a pepakura helmet I have been working on, and recently, I had the back end of it warp on me. I applied rondo (which is roughly 70% figerglass and 30% bondo) It warped while I had it sitting in my car on a rather hot day, so my hopes for fixing it are high.  However, I have already taken a heat gun to it (which did make it very flexible) to reshape it. However, it always returns back to it's original misshaped form. Am I just no applying enough heat to it? Or have I basically accidentally created a memory material? Thanks in advance!

Where can I get large ( diamter larger than 3 ft.) plastic tubing for a child's diy inside gym/playground.?

I want to make a Super Mario Bros themed inside playground for my kids.  I'm basically wanting to construct some type of tubing to make a "warp pipe" tunnel large enough for them to crawl in and out and create a little wooden fort that's painted to look like a castle from the video game that would connect to these hypothetical warp pipes I want to create. I need whatever I am working with to be safe and smooth, non toxic, strong enough to support two kids btwn the ages of 2 and 4 years old & 25 to 35 lbs, and durable yet not so heavy & dense that it would cause injury to my kids if they bumped their heads. I've briefly looked at PVC piping and concrete forms and am a little unsure; would either or both of theses products be suitable for my idea (and do they even come that large)?  Or does anyone else have some suggestions?   Thank you for your time and any responses.

Dilithium created and observed in the laboratory!

According to a news report in Physics Today, scientists at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory have confirmed the creation of element 114 first reported by Dubna physicists in 1999. As true afficionados may recall from the original Star Fleet Technical Manual (pictured), element 114 is dilithium, used to regulate the matter-antimatter reaction for warp propulsion. Unfortunately, with a lifetime of just a few hundred milliseconds, it's unlikely that crystals of element 114 will be produced any time soon.

Phenolic discs for whimshurts? Answered

So recently I found a webpage about someone using Phenol for a rotary spark gap for a Tesla, I had never heard of this material and don't know too much about it. For a while now I have wanted to make a whimshurst that is larger than the one I currently have (bought online, a gift from my family) but with my current one i have an issue with the acrylic discs not only not being balanced but also warped causing them to start vibrating on their shaft making it harder to turn the handle. I figure that because every piece of acrylic i have ever worked with has been warped that is would be best to find an alternative. My question is, would it be easier to keep phenol flat and balance or would it be best to stick with acrylic? another thing im curious about is this a material that would even work for this application? Lastly i would like to say that i did try doing a little research on this and didnt come up with anyone trying it for this purpose, i know that in some cases static can act a little differently than normal high voltage arcs (say, from a microwave oven transformer) which brings me to this question. P.S. im not sure what category this should go in, if anyone thinks there is a better one let me know and i will change it.

In his updated version, you can warp to any place on the map, and can change all sorts of things such as lighting and backgrounds and even play sans armor. Will PVC piping bend under a wire tension? Answered

I'm looking to make a hot wire foam cutter, and have most of the setup all outlined. However, the 'bow' still need to be made, and I plan to use PVC. Reason being is I would like to be able to stick some four/three way bends on one ended as to allow me to stick the bow on a stand of sorts to make a band-saw style hot wire. But, question at hand: if I were to make a frame out of PCB piping for a hotwire, would the tension of the hotwire cause the frame to warp? And if so, what would be an equally cheap option for the frame? Thanks!

Fight Simulator

I just had a great Idea last night. Okay, I think we've all seen those $250,000 homemade flight simulators built by people with just a wee bit too much time on their hands (like anyone who goes on instructables). One of the main reasons these are expensive, other than the computer themselves, is the fact that there are multiple LCD screens surrounding the pilot. These things cost a few pretty pennies, so this is where my idea comes in. The first thing you would need to do, would be to arrange some semi-opaque plastic panels where you would usually have the LCD displays. They need to be opaque enough that you can't see through them, but clear enough to let a good bit of light through. In other words, they need to be translucent, not transparent. The second thing would be computer software. It needs to be able to totally invert your desktop display. You could do this with hardware, but it would be a waste of time and materials. Connected to your computer would be a digital projector, which is where all of the magic of this project comes together. You run the projector through a prism (what kind, anyone?), to slightly warp the projected image. You need this warpage (is that a word?), to counteract the different angles of the plastic panels. The projector is set up in front of the "cockpit," projecting its inverted, warped image at it. You can see the images on the inside, because you chose the correct opacity, right? The hope behind this idea, is that it is much cheaper to have 1 digital projector, than it is to have multiple LCDs. Thanks! MDJ

I have some beautiful chairs that need some serious work. does anyone have any suggestions?

I recently received a set of 4 wooden table chairs from a friend. 3 of them are in pieces and are hardly salvageable. But there is one that I think I can work with. The wood has been severely warped as it has been sitting outside in the rain, and it looks like theres a little termite damage on one corner, but it is a beautiful chair and I'm really hoping that I can fix it up. I would love to do something really creative with it so let me know what YOU would do with this chair please. Thank you :)

Anyone know of cheaper alternative material to plexiglass for homemade DDR pad arrows? Answered

What the title says. I want to build a new wooden DDR pad, but this time spending as little money as possible. Plexiglass sheets make a great material for the arrows (see this video: https://www.instructables.com/id/DDR-dance-pad/ ) but it drives up the cost of each pad by about $25. So I'm looking for a cheaper material that I can cut into squares for the arrows/buttons; it needs to be at least slightly flexible (so it can warp downwards slightly when stepped on) and obviously sturdy enough to withstand stepping, but it doesn't need to be transparent or plastic. Any ideas?

Cutting the trim around a steel sink

I need some professional advice. I need to decide on a sink for my future apartment (under construction) and I don't have the choices I like. I really want an undermount sink with a satin finish - and it's hard to come around where I live  (South America). I have found a satin finish drop-in type sink, and I am wondering if it could be cut to be used as an undermount sink. My question is, will the bowl of the sink warp if the frame is cut? The sink I want to cut looks like this but without the strainer on the left. Red lines indicate how I would like to cut the sink.  Thanks for your time, Colorex
