Audio Detector

Is there some type of electrical component which detects high frequency sounds like those mosquito ring tones? I've looked around and seen things which apparently detect high frequency radio waves, but that isn't really what I want (at least I don't think it is). Thanks in advance.

SMPS formulas?

Are there any switched mode power supply formulas? I've been googling but I can't find anything... I need to know relation between duty cycle (I'm using square waves) frequency size (value) of the inductor output voltage output amperage how many amps should the inductor be rated for (is it how much your drawing?)

Why to use RF directional couplers in some measurements and control processes ?

I am an electronic engineer in the field of RF directional couplers, but I am puzzled about this question, why to use RF directional couplers in some measurements and control processes ? Today I come to this forum to turn to you to discuss my understandings are appropriate. Here are my personal understandings: RF radio frequency is referred to as RF current, it is a high frequency AC change electromagnetic wave short. Less than 1000 times per second changes in alternating current called low frequency current, more than 10000 times called high frequency current, and radio frequency is such a high frequency current. RF technology in the field of wireless communications with a wide range of irreplaceable role. In the electronics theory, the current flows through the conductor, the conductor will form a magnetic field around; alternating current through the conductor, the conductor will form an alternating electromagnetic field, known as electromagnetic waves. When the electromagnetic wave frequency is lower than 100khz, the electromagnetic wave will be absorbed by the surface, can not form an effective transmission, but the electromagnetic wave frequency is higher than 100khz, the electromagnetic wave can be spread in the air, and the outer edge of the ionospheric reflection, the formation of long-distance transmission capacity (Analog or digital) with high-frequency current modulation (amplitude modulation or FM), the formation of radio frequency signals, through the antenna to launch into the air, the radio frequency of the high-frequency electromagnetic waves.  Long-range radio frequency signal received after the anti-modulation, reduced to the electrical information source, this process is called wireless transmission. Wireless transmission developed for nearly two hundred years, forming a large number of users and product groups, but because of climate change and the impact of surface obstacles, can not transmit the perfect information. Modern human invention of the cheap high-frequency transmission cable (radio frequency line), in order to pursue the perfect quality of information transmission, taking into account the original wireless devices, wireless cable transmission began to pop. Resulting in the concept of radio frequency transmission. And even through the space parasitic capacitance directly to another conductor, so these high harmonics is caused by radiation interference (emission) of the main factors; (that the simple point is that the signal rise faster, the more complete the signal, the better the signal quality, But for emi bad) . PI: PCB exists on the number \ \ analog area, high frequency \ 'low frequency region and other different areas and planes, if the partition is not easy to interfere with each other, that is, conduction conduction (conduction). What are all the flaming-hoops?

Say if I was to sell electronic objects invented by me or friends, that may or may to be functional or may or may not be artistic what are the laws/certification/inspections/flaming-hoops that I would have to clear first and what is that entire process like? Does anyone know? The FCC is one of them, and it pertains to whether your object will make planes fall out of the sky or turn off pacemakers dues to magnetic waves or unauthorized frequencies, correct? Who ensures that the objects won't catch on fire or melt into a caustic China Crisis goo? How you convince them of this? Who else do you want or need a rubber stamp from before you can sell your radio wave emitting blinky bug at the garage sale? Or your robo-fridge ("Is your fridge running? Better go catch it!") in your Etsy shop? What if it had a sim card? Any illumination on this would be invaluable!

Charging camera flash capacitors from mains supply

Hi everyone, I have a quick question about charging some capacitors.  I'm trying to make a very simple ignition system using capacitors from disposable camera flash circuits.  I'm planning on using maybe 5 or so.  They are rated at 330V and 120uF.  If I were to hook them up in parallel, so that i have a total of ~600uF, could I use a full-wave bridge recifier diode to turn the AC into DC and simply charge it like that without anything else in the circuit.  I don't know how to explain this very well so I attatched a schematic so you can see what I'm talking about.  Any help is much appreciated.. P.S. Ignore the fact that the full-wave rectifier looks messed up, doesn't have a f-w r symbol.  Thanks again!

Request: DIY Portable Microwave

I was looking around and was hoping to find somewhere a guide to make a portable microwave, I have looked around on the internet for hours trying to find a DIY one because I want to make it myself rather than buying one.  What I am trying to do is find a way to make a microwave portable.  I wouldn't be making the actual microwave though, I would just buy one that you guys would hopefully suggest for me to buy.  The purpose of this is to have a microwave that I can put inside of a locker for cooking food in.  I just need someone to guide me through because all I learned through my searching was that I possibly needed an inverter, due to it being battery powered (I assume.)  Then again aren't there car batteries that can run on AC like a microwave, although I am not sure which is why I am here.  Summary: What I am asking is someone to make a step by step tutorial or guide of some sort to making a microwave portable (not building the actual microwave though, just making one portable to be runnable by like a car battery)

Sound wave heart beat detection

I love to graph things. Everything from outside temperature to server room temperature to the number of users on the network to my weight.I just read an article in Make magazine about DIY ECGs, and it got me thinking.. i want to graph more things about my body :)Would a microphone embedded in the bed be able to pick up the heart beats and calculate the BPM? This way I could graph development in resting heart rate over time. The microphone would pick up lots of noise from the person moving around etc.. but that doesn't mather. It only needs to get a few clean heart beats in order to calculate the bpm, right?What hardware and software would be suitable to create something like this?Any ideas?Yeah, of course there are other more traditional ways of measuring heart beat.. but I'm to lazy to do that.. I'd rather spend some time making a fully automagickal system.

2 Minute Meals -- Your favorite breakfast?

2 Minute meals are fun, but in the morning, if you wake up too late, they can become necessity. I've made "oatmeal" in the past, just a little water and some instant oatmeal, in the 'wave for 30 seconds, and its warm. I call it "oatmeal" because its just instant oatmeal suspended in lukewarm water, it doesn't get gelatinous or anything :P What do you do in a hurry?

sound over smell

Could a certain sound frequency cancel out smell? as in the sound waves dissolve the smell molecule? i need to do a lot more research on this... but if it actually heads in the direction of a product where a non-hearable sound kills all the smells i copyright the idea as of now if you steal my idea and make money i will kidnap you and shred all the money you make until it is liquid and inject it into your bloodstream.

What is a wavefunction?

In the Physics topic on the EPR paradox, NachoMahma asked about wavefunctions and "collapse."Let's put aside the whole "collapse" issue -- not all physicists agree that it is a sensible concept. NM's comment has a link to the Measurement Problem, and I'm not a good enough theorist or philsopher to contribute to that argument.What is the wavefunction? "Is wavefunction only a convenient way to say it's located somewhere close to here, but we're not sure exactly where until we measure it?""At any particular point in time/space the object is in a definite spot with a definite set of properties, but we can only make a reasonable guess?"No. The wavefunction, spread out over all of space (I'm speaking non-relativistically here, but the formal interpretation applies to spacetime), is the fundamental "thing" in QM. "Objects" are wavefunctions. If the wavefunction is localized (non-zero for a small contiguous set of coordinates, zero everywhere else) then treating it like a particle makes sense. Otherwise, it doesn't; the thing behaves like a wave, showing diffraction, interference, and lots of other effects. My preference, when I talk about these things, is to just call them "quanta." They are not particles, they are not waves; they are their own kind of entity with well defined, if really hard to understand, behaviour.How do I get to that point? Mobile Phones and Elevators

Ahem. Theoretically, an elevator is a perfect faraday cage -- no radio waves should be able to get into them. Mobile phones shouldn't work in them. But rogers says that their phones do work in them. So here's my question for you, instructables community: do rogers phones work in elevators? If so, why?The only theory that we could come up with was that each elevator has a little repeater in it, but that seems a bit costly.

diy 110v AC screw-in LED lightbulb?

I'm sort of an electronics newbie, but I'm wondering if anyone knows of any designs to make a 110v AC LED screw-in bulb? It seems all you would need is a full wave bridge rectifier, a resistor(?) to lower the voltage, some LEDs, and some variation on a screw-in base to make a home-made LED bulb. Am I wrong, or shouldn't that be relatively simple to build? Any thoughts? Thanks, Matt

Water dancing in a Speaker

At 6 volts,* the speaker cone filled with water produces standing waves. at 10 v,  maxing out the speaker, water droplets splash up.  i coated the paper cone of 1 speaker with liquid electrical tape to waterproof it.   an identical speaker went unmodified.  water doesnt seem to harm the paper cone. both speakers work with water. when directed down into a bucket of water,  sound stirs the water. * chopped dc voltage from an ordinary ac to dc transformer

How to build a jammer

Hi All, I'm a new member living in the UK and don't know anything about eletronics.I am looking for some help on how to block my neighbours radio signal-He is a radio ham  and everytime he is transmitting i get the whole conversation through my  radio, hifi and stand alone TV's and anything that has a speaker attached to it-sometimes get lines through my TV. Measuring audio

I have a project where I need to be able to measure 3 or 4 microphones and decide which one is getting in the loudest input volume. In other words to know who is talking around a four persons table. Does anyone have any idea how to solve this problem? I'm using arduino ( for the rest of the project so I'm able to use the arduino to measure dc voltage but how do I transfer the sound wave into a measurable dc voltage? thx in advance / david

Ratings, so you know...

I spent a bit of time today looking again at the Instructables rating system, here's what I found:A single rating lands an Instructable around the 3 mark, there is a huge spike just on the upper side of 3.0. Mean average rating (rather close to Pi) is 3.14Most ratings seem to be positive, the overall distribution has 68.7% of rated Instructables "above average" (60.5% of all Instructables if you include unrated submissions)There is a "wave" of ratings heading up towards 4, and a smaller ripple going down towards 2. High Voltage Flyback Transformer Pinout HELP!

I pulled out a flyback HV transformer from a CRT television set (I DO know of the dangers involved, and I'm VERY careful to discharge all caps and to short out the flyback).  But the problems is, I have a FB Samsung C31113D.  Very hard to find schematics or specs on.  Rather than fiddling with which pins do what (via battery and multimeter-which I guess I could do), does anyone know of a site that offers pintout schematics for different manufacturers?  I'm anxious to begin my project on building a Jacob's Ladder.  But without knowing which pins do what, I refuse to tinker.  My life is just too important. Is there anyone who may be able to help me out here?  Perhaps checking each pin with a battery is the only way to go, but I would like to avoid that if possible.  Also, what waveform does the FB  Transformer put out?  I've heard square wave, and I've heard D.C.  The only thing I have definitely heard is that sine waves tend to result in smoke from the FB. Thank you!

Is such water cooling gonna be good enough ?

I would like to make water cooling for laptop. But not sure if it will cool good enough, tell me what you think. I'm thinking to use copper tube, plastic tubes, some reservoir. Machine that can shape water

The National Maritime Research Institute of Japan has a machine that can create shapes in the water such as hearts and stars. That's just the small one. The larger machine can make much bigger collisions between waves. There's some research around safety here to merit such a large setup, but I'm just happy with the splashes and the over-the-top reactions of the reporters. Radio Frequency Proximity Detector

Hello, Does anyone have an instructable for building a proximity detector based on a radio transmitter and receiver? Or some other wave based method? I've viewed the IR proximity detector here on this site, but I need a transmitter/receiver based one. Yes, this is for my pet. I have 2 cats and 1 dog. I need to keep the dog out of the same areas that the cats are allowed to go into, thus the proximity detector needs to be specifically tuned to the dog. Distance does not have to be far, anywhere from several inches to a couple feet. Appreciate any comments or instructables! Thanks, Eric

LED Gloves

I was in a bar tonight and there were these guys with these weird LED gloves and were doing this little show where they wave their hands arounds and it looked really awesome. Seems pretty simple. They have 16 watch size batteries linked up to super bright LEDs. I kinda thought that was a good project to try instead of buying a pair for 100 dollars that are considered quality.  I really don't even know how to go about this.  They're called Light Show Rave Gloves. Waveform Generator

Hi guys! So actually i wanted to make a circuit that can turn on and off an LED array at a particular rate (say 10 seconds time period). I want the LEDs to gradually brighten and dim. At first i thought i can implement it using a multi vibrator, but it it turning off and on too fast, since the output of the MV is a square wave. I want to design a simple circuit that can generate more slowly rising waveform (like sine or triangular) and can also drive a load of at least 100 mA and have a time period of 10 seconds or so. Any suggestions?

I lost my glasses in the ocean; help me choose a new pair!

I lost my glasses kitesurfing in some enormous waves at Waddell Creek yesterday! I went through the complete spin-cycle: caught in a wave, spun so fast underwater I didn't know which way was up, almost run out of breath, lose glasses, etc... I forgot to write my email address on them, so if you find a pair of glasses somewhere along the Northern California coast let me know! I've worn my glasses in the ocean for more than 6 years without incident; in fact, I lost so many pairs of contacts to the ocean, that I started favoring my glasses. Below you can see me just coming back to shore wearing my glasses -- on this particular day, I was so tired after 6 hours of kitesurfing that I couldn't get the food into my mouth properly. I choose that pair by wandering into an optical store and demanding "1960's NASA engineer glasses." They were probably more "graphic designer" glasses, but cool nonetheless. Help me choose what I should get next! I'm partial to because they're super cheap and believe me when I tell them "my prescription really hasn't changed and I don't need another eye exam."

How to Identify or Measure Inductance?

I am gathering the parts for an ible, but I am short one part: a 12mH inductor.I can spot some inductors in electronic garbage - the wire coiled around a ferrite loop - but there are also solid state inductors. Plus, the inductors are not usually labelled with their values.How can I measure the inductance of an inductor with a volt-meter and an ammeter, but without access to a sine-wave generator?Is there some simple trick that would get me "close enough" to the true value? What would be really useful (but probably doesn't exist) is a chart or formula where you plug in the size of the core and the number of turns around it and out pops the inductance value. ?

Effectiveness of sugar as a piezoelectric material

Most of the sites discussing piezoelectricity mention that sugar crystals can be used, but I have not found any examples of them being used. I've just tried it with about a 1cm chunk of low quality (conglomerate of small ~3mm crystals) crystal, and got a good 100mV wave when tapped with a pencil. I've not tried applying a signal to it yet, and some better single crystals are growing at the moment, so I was wondering how well it works compared to commercial piezoelectric compounds. I've not done anything like this before, so if anyone knows where I can find information of the best way to mount and apply a signal to the crystal, it would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Did you know that many aspects of the world’s legal systems come from biblical origins using tried and true fundamental laws originating from the Ten Commandments? The concept of “watching your six” borrows from these universally accepted laws, whose credo stipulates guidelines for human interaction as well as interaction with god. Your "six" refers to the driver behind you whom you should treat as you would yourself. With this in mind, we have a new credo for today’s need to interact with each other by driving your car responsibly through high density traffic to avoid “wave congestion". This term is used to describe isolated packs of cars suddenly causing a local slow-down in traffic flow, while both upstream and downstream traffic continues to still move well, and so our rule states:   “Drivers are responsible for the immediate driver behind them, keeping him safe and avoiding unnecessary braking”    How This Rule Works In traffic: 1)            The Rule is Expansive, All Inclusive and Saves Us Money If we followed this general rule, we would become responsible for leaving the proper space/time ahead of the car in front of us. Space clearly gives us reasonable reaction time to perhaps "brake by simply coasting" and not force the driver behind us to suddenly brake hard. It will help us to recognize that the proper spacing between cars is not an open invitation to dart between lanes just to get ahead by one car length. This causes “wave congestion” and the possibility of accidents during heavy traffic situations. It assures that braking is something one does as a "last resort" and only when no other circumstance for safety and/or avoiding a collision is available. It holds the “rubber-necker” responsible for maintaining good traffic flow or get ticketed. The rule encourages a driver to adapt the techniques of defensive driving so as to avoid accidents, and to embrace the proper social skills of driver etiquette to mitigate road rage and its associated erratic driving behavior. Ultimately, the rule will financially help us to reduce our car insurance costs by promoting fewer negligence accidents. 2)            Eliminate Reactive Braking … Trust the Driver In Front of You Keep in mind what normally happens in heavy traffic when the first driver uses their brakes either in idle thoughtlessness or in protective response to traffic congestion ahead. Under these circumstances, we reactively use our brakes for two reasons:  a)   Reduced Reaction Time  - The first car’s brake lights go on, giving us less time to react so we over compensate by braking harder than him. This affect gets compounded, causing each subsequent upstream driver to brake still harder, until the reactive braking time becomes impossible to respond to and a collision or multiple collisions occur.  b)   We Don’t Trust Other Drivers  -  We are conditioned not to trust our fellow drivers because they haven’t yet been educated to abide by our Rule. This lack of trust causes us to drive "overly" cautious and results in the over use of our brakes to defend ourselves. Our driving habits have created a psychological situation just waiting for an accident. 3)            Implies Driving Etiquette that Must Become Required Driver’s Education The rule and its derivatives must be taught as part of our driver’s education program, and their concepts definitely reviewed during the licensing exam. The Rule also includes adherence to a driver’s code of etiquette which goes beyond just obeying our basic traffic laws of vehicle safety as is currently done. Highways are becoming too congested to allow rouge drivers to ignore their “social” driving responsibilities and the etiquette of the road.  Traffic tickets for abusing social driving etiquette should be as prolific and costly as our traffic laws for speeding and/or not stopping at a stop sign, etc. 4)            Compliments Our Near Term Use of Self-Controlled Vehicles Our Rule intrinsically implies the responsibility for social driving etiquette and takes us forward with steps that avoid future traffic congestion.  Improvements will come from technological automation which will eventually take the erratic human factor out of our equation to produce the smooth flow of traffic even during congested periods. Something as simple as today’s cruise control helps us to avoid “wave congestion” by maintaining a constant highway speed plus reducing inadvertent “brake riding” which sends the wrong message to the driver behind us.  Our ultimate step towards smooth traffic flow involves using near-term technology that completely eliminates drivers and relies on self-controlled vehicles taking over within regions of high density traffic. Ideally this will eliminate traffic accidents due to the unpredictability of driver shortcomings, making technological glitches our only possible area of concern in the near future. Google, in cooperation with the state of California, is currently in the process of introducing such vehicles onto the state’s roadways.

Hydrofoil Surfing - A New Adrenalin Sport

Listening to Silvio Rivier, the host of Global Village, there was a section on Hydrofoil Surfing. I turned to the television, interested by this large word, to see this guy surfing a foot above the water! It seems that instead of floating along the water like a normal surfboard this board actually would be below the water while you stand on it. A jet ski pulls the surfer up to speed, bringing him up to the top of the water, but that's not it, there's a fin that leads down a foot and a half or so below the board, and attached to the end of that is a special shaped piece of metal called a hydrofoil that collects the water as it comes up from the bottom of the sea and goes over as a wave. The surfer then keeps going upwards, until the "foil" is about 4 inches under the water. Therefore the surfer can balance above the water, with very little resistance & going very fast. It's technically possible that this could be used for surfing not just close to land, but hundreds of miles out, so the person can surf for as long as their legs hold out, because they can surf in rougher water. Does any body think they could build one of these? Balancing on one is supposed to be like using a uni-cycle, & I'm having trouble surfing normally so even if I did build this I probably couldn't ride it. Arduino Outdoor Security System - PIR Motion Sensor, Security Lights, Intruder Warning/Alarm & Blynk Notification

I would like to ask your suggestions on how to build an outdoor ESP2866 security and sensors combo. I have seen separate postings on PIR and lights around the site and in other websites so I thought it would be doable. I knew Arduino then but only paid close attention when I realized that my x-10s are outmoded but z-wave devices are expensive. So I am learning about it, how to sketch and trying to understand C++ more. My dream is to build an outdoor ESP2866 combo, powered by an AC120v-5v module, with two PIR motion sensors, three 120v relay switches (two relays for two sets of security floodlights and one relay for an amp/wave speaker with mic), a photo (dusk/dawn) sensor and temperature/humidity sensor (for a future thermostat). Operationally, I imagine that it could be armed and disarmed through Blynk. When armed at daytime, a motion will trigger a low volume intruder MP3 warning alert with 10 minutes of security lights at night. But if the trigger persists for more than 5 minutes, the security floodlights will blink, a loud intruder alarm will sound and push phone notifications. What will be the best way to sketch these? What is the better way of wiring them together? How could I make multiple ESP2866s in the same WAN work together for an event? The desired function is if an alarm event is triggered in one of the ESP2866 that would also set off blinking lights and alarm sounds in the other ESPs. Thanks for all your help.

Hey all ! anyone miss me? :-) ....

I can't stay for long, but wanted to bring you all up to date.... #1: I have been really busy with a couple of Asperger Forums and my own support group.. Over the weekend, while cleaning up, I started getting pains in the lower gut.  After it didn't go away in 5 hours, I dropped by the ER.  A CT scan indicated a new hernia, lower down and that the bladder was pushing itself into the hernia..   There is now a kind of a rush to get this fixed before the end of the year (deductibles and all)   Thought I would stop by quickly tonight and say HI !   And I hope you all are doing well.

hearing electromagnetic stuff

Well, I was going to plug my ipod into some old computer speakers. my thumb touched the tip of the jack (ground) and it makes a buzzin noise. Big woop. No, as I go to reach my ipod it makes a big buzzing noise. what I was hearing was the electromagnetic waves. I reach for my cell phone and then a loud really highpitched noise ccame out. I waver my hand over my computer's power supply, I here a loud buzzing noise. How to do this: press tip of thumb to tip of 3.5mm jack turn your speakers up pretty high waver hand over complex electronics boy, do i have fun mornings, lol, being sarcastic

Last night I dreamed of massive Earthly destruction by huge flaming rocks from the sky. It was really, really cool, but rather scary. Black sky, massive and multiple flaming rocks from above impacting with devastating effect (some distance away, but close enough to feel shock-waves). Not like the image, more real and hot-burning coals like (but that's the best I could manage to get for 2 mins of searching)If it happens soon it's a premonition?(I also dreamed that some landlord-bast's had been in while I was out and cleaned my place out of all the junk and important stuff like my furniture, PC etc and moved the stuff out of the shed into my lounge, but that was a completely separate scene and in daylight...)I was glad to wake up!

sound-only area and cancellation

I'm looking for advice. (now this is difficult to explain but I'll try my best) I am trying to design a way to have a dance floor in an open area that will have an area where you can hear the music but away from the area it can't be heard. I'm attempting to do this using an array of speakers around the dance floor that will cancel out the music past the dance floor. Each speaker will face away from the area and be equipped with a microphone (directed torwards the main speaker) that then goes through and amplifier and then to the speaker (wired up so that it will emmit an opposing sound wave). This would essentially create a sound barier. I have attatched a picture as a visual aid.

Pulse detonation(numerical simulation)

Hello everyone iam a Msc student now, i have done many projects over pulsejet engines which you could see in my instructables list. Now i have decided to do a project over pulse detonation engines, before beginning with the real one i thought that making a fluent simulation will be better. I have several tries to create the detonation front and atlast i succeeded in creating one. Take a look at the attached pictures which shows the development of a detonation front inside a long tube of 100cm. Further works will be updated soon. HAARP mind control?

Allegations have been made that the HAARP project is behind mind control experiments. The ex governor Jesse Ventura, interviewed a professor who demonstrated in his show that it is possible to send messages to people's minds without any need for hearing. The professor put two piezoelectric transducers on Ventura's chin and Ventura claimed to be able to "hear" music in his brain. Real science or pseudoscience? If this device could be made, wouldn't this device help people without hearing? What about the possibilities of learning devices or communication? I believe that this device could put thoughts on people's minds but not necessarily control them (unless it is an easy suggestible subject). Interstellar (movie) ScienceFiction

Spoiler alert. The butler did it!!  Just kidding.                 Category: Weird Planets! Water Planet-  How'd they know that the sea was shallow enough to land in? The ship's engines apparently can't run if wet. So landing here was pretty risky. Would you land a plane in a foot of water not knowing if it was 1000' of water? You can't take off if the engines are wet!                         When a big wave hits, (on earth) one of the signs is that the water in a bay will recede. Why didnt this happen when the big waves hit in the film?   Ice Planet-  80% of earth's gravity (IIRC)  Yet a "frozen cloud" can hold up it's own weight. Fun world, very sculptural. Is there any way these shapes can hold themselves up?  Might be more believable if planet had 10% of earth gravity.  Those jump jets also more plausible in low G.                 Category: Black Hole Appearance-  At first, this seemed pretty artsy- bizzare. But i'd read that lots of research + computer modelling went into it. So here's my assumtion explaining the visual:  The black hole has a simple ring of hot debris orbiting it like the rings of saturn. This stuff isn't close enough to have it's light sucked in. Looking above, or below the "hole", Light from the backside of the ring is bent around to our "eyes" by gravity. This causes the illusion of a second ring perpendicular to the first one. If we coud "look"  with some means unaffected by gravity, we would "see" a single ring.                 Category: Demise of Earth IIRC, the crop  blight is "using up" the N2 in the atmosphere??  um...  Overall, a really good flick, addressing big human questions. Of course the human story is the most important, tough decisions face these characters....  but chat on sci should be fun, too.
