Wii troubles?

Ok, so my Nintendo Wii, which we have had for about 3 years decided to stop reading disks about 2 months ago. It played the downloaded games just fine but now we cant even get the Wii remotes to register on screen. I can get the hand to show up if i plug the Wii remote into our guitar hero 3 controller and use the analog stick on that but thats it. We keep it in our basement and we have 3 cats so its rather dusty. Im just wondering is it a software problem and would formatting it do anything or is it dust on the lens or some other hardware problem. I was going to format it to see if it would do anything but Im afraid that we might loose all of our save data, and I cant remember what my user name or password was for the Wii shop channel so i cant recover any of that save data either. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Gamecube Controller for Wii

With the Wii U coming out without any nintendo gamecube controller ports, I was wondering if it were possible to still somehow mod a gamecube controller so that it could work on a Wii U.  Since classic controllers that plug into a Wii Remote will work on a Wii U, i was curious to know whether it is possible for a gamecube controller to be modded so that it is recognized as a Classic controller.  Somehow connecting a gamecube controller to a Wii remote, since a classic controller and a gamecube controller have pretty much the same buttons.  If this is possible how would it be done?

Wii Remote Ports - What can they be used for?

So since the Switch is the main Nintendo console and the Wii sold like wildfire, I recently had a thought for a project involving the plug and sockets for Wii Remotes and the things you can plug into them. Seeing as how Nintendo is all about unique ports for handheld and home consoles, why not remove the ports from a Wii Remote and Nunchuck for use in say (something easy to try) a storage device, like a specialized USB or something? Based on the Wii Remote i took apart, the port is only 6 pins, and you can get both parts of the port with a Wii Motion Plus. I imagine the price for either is lowered quite a bit at used game & movie stores, so what do you guys think could be made with the ports?

Custom Wii Gun

I remeber back to the summer I was at an arcade playing Ghost Squad. Now that it is out on the wii, the fun was only half way there. I played with the wii zapper, and as much fun as it was, it just isn't cutting it. My favorite part was the force feedback gun that gave some recoil. I decided to go making my own, but I can't think of something to give enough punch. I plan to make a PVC gun outline and encase the wii remote. I would then rig a trigger on the PVC rifle to pull the fire button on the wii remote. From there, I could connect the wires so at a certain point on the PVC trigger pull, an electrical current would be completed activating the recoil. I started with thinking about takeing out the rumble motors in some old game controlers, but that would only go so far. I really wanted a staight back and forth movement. I started to think about taking a piston similar to an airsoft gun, were the motor cranks a gear that pulls the pistion back. This gear as some teeth shaved clean so that after so far of an extend, the teeth would inentially slip causing the built up spring to push the piston back into the starting position. Before it got too complicated and I started to build it, I wanted to make sure this was possible. Is it possible/practical? What type of feedback should I use, and were can I get it? -John

parts for wii guitar hero drums

I have the guitar hero world tour for my wii, the cable that connects the drum set to the wii remote has recently been destroyed. the cable is white about 6-8inches long and is attatched to a circuitt board inside the drum set at one end, and like i said the other end plug into the wireless wii remote at the other end. the forceful craming of the remote into the remote storage area on top of the drum set i believe caused the damage. where can i find replacement parts? thanks eman.

Water jet controlled by Wii type remote and sensor

I need to be able to create a water jet gun that I can control with a Wii remote and sensor, or something like it. I would use servos to move the jet, but dont know how to set up the sensor and program the microcontroller. If someone could create a tutorial for this it would be awesome. Also, the setup needs to be waterproof, and I dont know if any servos are or how to waterproof the sensor without blocking the signal. Any help is much appreciated.

Bluetooth handheld remote (like a simpler wii 'chuck) accelerator/brake trigger assembly, what else is it called?

Hi All, Easy question (for someone), on this handheld bluetooth remote control, what is the hardware name for the accelerator/brake trigger assembly? It moves for and aft to control a bldc motor and motor brake circuit. I've been looking around and can only locate the 2 axis joystick. I would like to incorporate this into a different housing if I can find it. Thanks.

Wii VR, the fun of 3D without those silly goggles

Here's a cool new use for the Wii. Instead of holding the Wii remote in his hands, Johnny Lee, a PhD student at Carnegie Mellon, puts the Wii remote on the TV and puts a couple of IR LEDs on a pair of goggles, reversing the usual setup. This way the TV knows where he is and can adjust the image on the screen for a nice 3D effect. He explains the setup and starts the comparison of normal vs. his Wii VR at 2:30.via Neatorama

K'nex Challenge for Wii Owners

Alright, I had a nice idea. I notice there are few Wii Zapper peripherals that are easy to use. Most are cheap pieces of plastic that cost much more than they need to and they still suck. There was one though that looked promising but still wasn't quite that comfortable. Here's the challenge. Make the easiest to use zapper body construction for a Wii remote and nunchuck. Some ideas are: Add a stock. Maybe some sort of stand you can rest the gun on to make aiming even easier? Add K'nex levers and buttons that press the Wii controller buttons. Make a trigger that presses the Z button and make a fake charging handle that presses the C button maybe? Tilt the remote sideways so it's easier to reach all the top buttons. Remember, comfort and ease of use. Those are important. It'd also be nice if it looked decent. Think any of you can handle it?

Android on Wii, PS3, or XBOX? Somebody please help figure this out.

I was just in a discussion about the OUYA console. It's a system that uses Android to play Google Play games on the big screen. I've also heard rumors of an Android-running WiiU. I was wondering how difficult it would be to run Android on a game console that wasn't intended for it. Considering that their architecture allows them to run a bunch of Linux OS distributions, I figure it must be possible. It's probably possible in a non-destructive way too. Not to mention that Android can use pretty much any USB or Bluetooth remote you can throw at it with some rooting and fairly simple apps. It doesn't seem that it would be any physical modification, just software. Unfortunately, my programming skills are mediocre, and I'm not much of a hacker. So, let's start some discussion on how this could be done in a fully functional way. If you know it's been done, please post some links. Nobody has claims on the Instructable if they post information here. Whoever pieces all of the information together can do it. It won't be me.

Wiimote Head Tracking -- Nintendo: Please do this!

Johnny Lee did it again! Head tracking with the Wiimote! From his blog:"Using the infrared camera in the Wii remote and a head mounted sensor bar (two IR LEDs), you can accurately track the location of your head and render view dependent images on the screen. This effectively transforms your display into a portal to a virtual environment. The display properly reacts to head and body movement as if it were a real window creating a realistic illusion of depth and space. "I really hope Nintendo looks into this -- even though it only works for 1 person. After all, most games are 1-player, and those games are the ones that would best use this feature. If I had a bluetooth adaptor, I'd play around with this some, but, alas, I do not. However, this and his other projects would work the same with a video camera that has an IR filter.Funny, Sony really didn't take enough advantage of thier EyeToy, if it was IR-only, they would have been able to do more...

Alternative to keyboard

On top is a joystick like an NES joystick. It registers 8 different directions: up, down, left, right, and the in-betweens of those and is controlled by the thumb. Then there are 4 buttons, one for each finger. The joystick replaces the trackpad of a laptop and hopefully is also 'clickable'  to act as a 'left click button. I'm not sure what would do the right click button. Combinations of button presses and joystick directions would replace the keys on a keyboard. I only have the use of my right hand. I initially thought of this as a device for handicapped people like myself, but it would also be good for people lying in bed. The concept maybe could be made into a cell phone case with physical buttons that would allow people to text without looking at their phones. The device is a lot like the nintendo wi remote, but not quite. Maybe a wii remote could be hacked to make a prototype. I wouldn't know how to do that and I wouldn't know how to program it, that's why I'm posting, to see if someone could tell me what kind of skills/knowledge would be needed to make this idea happen. Any suggestions or offers to help are welcome. Thank you!

How can I simulate keystrokes/ keyboard input in Python?

Over the course of a few weeks, I have been programming a robot (called a Finch), to respond to commands from a Wii remote. I planned to use a raspberry pi to run the code so i could make it more mobile. I wrote a program in Java that lets me control movement with the arrow keys, and other keys like A, S, D, Q, W, R, F, J, K, L, M, do other things like change the LED color or make it say something. After I finished that, I wrote some python code that uses the CWiid library. I tested the code on the pi, and it works, its just that I don't know how to use it to send input that my Java program can use.

Led Mini Beamer Overhead Projection As Cheap Wacom Cintiq Alternative?

Hello there! My last english lesson is over ten years ago, so exuse me for my mistakes.  I come from germany and i love to make comics. I juse a wacom bamboo fun for this. But my dream is ( and surely not me alone) to have a wacom cinitq. But its very expensive. To much for me.  I watched the interesting video from roryok,  who find a way with a screen panel via Wii Remote, but it seems very complicated. So i asked me: Is there an easer way for this. So i had an idea about a pen tablet overhead projection with via mini beamer. Take a look to this quickly made scribble : grafiktablett-overhead-projektion/ The most Mini Beamer have an projection space between 15 cm to 1,5 cm . (5.91 to 59.06 inch) . The smallest unit is exatly the widh of an bamboo fun, but is the resolution enough to paint of it in a dark room?  Do you mean that could work and maybe have anybody a minbeamer and an pen tablet for a test? I hope you can help me. For me there is no way to test it. By the way...I have also created a comic painter optimized analog panel ruler. Perhaps that is something for another theme. You can find it on my satire blog under: panel-ruler Best regards sgtroxx
