Yellow Gear with 84 Teeth!

I have a large collection of K'Nex and have discovered that a few of my yellow gears have 84 teeth instead of the usual 82. The shade of yellow is paler than usual and the spokes have a narrower shoulder near the rim. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Yellow Fever Vaccine Question

OK, big trip coming up, all the Kite Boys (including GrandfatherKite) are off to Kenya at the end of July. We'll be on safari around Samburu, Lake Naivasha, Treetops, that general area. We've had a bunch of vaccines already, and have our malaria tablets ordered, but we haven't had Yellow Fever vaccines yet. Here's the thing - should we? I've had conflicting advice from medical professionals (one said I need it, one said no need), probably down to a lack of experience in the area, so I'm wondering what you folk have to say. Yes, I know that free medical advice on the internet is frequently worth less than you pay for it, I'm just after some opinions or pointers on the risks vs benefits. Are the probable side effects worth it, given the potential risk involved?

No yellow comment boxes on pictures using firefox

Hi, This is probably a problem at my side, not an Instructable-caused problem, but I'm not having problems with any other site right now so I feel inclined to ask it here. When loading an instructible within Firefox (using 2.0.0.13 right now), while the pictures are loaded, briefly all the yellow comment boxes are displayed on top of the pictures. Then they dissapear. Forever. Hovering the mouse over the pictures doesn't bring them up again, neither does reloading the page help. I'm not sure what could be causing this. Loading a page in IE (version 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp2) doesn't have this problem, but I don't feel like using IE for anything other than sites that really don't work within Firefox. I know it should work and has worked before, but can't remember what I could have done to cause this. Any ideas as to where to start? Using Windows XP professional, SP2 and (almost) all updates. thanks...

Wildlife CCTV repair question

So, I accidentally agreed to fix a friend's IR wildlife camera,  which has had the cable mostly ripped off. I have three wires to solder back to a crowded circuit board, but I don't know which goes where, and I've never done SMT soldering like this. I've tried finding diagrams or manuals, but I haven't managed to yet. Does anybody have any ideas? (In the photos, the only wire soldered in place is the black one, and the jacks are the end of the cable away from the camera)

Adding yellow comment boxes to pictures

I'm having an issue adding those yellow comment boxes to pictures.  It seems it only let me add one set to one picture.  Also, the yellow box that it does allow stays inplace through all my photos.  I have to exit out of my instructable and go back in to get it to dissapear. Now its gotten worse and no matter what step i go to, it will only show my introduction statement. i cannot edit all the other text.

Gearbox Sharpener for knex

NOTE THIS IS A MODIFIED VERSION OF THE ONE I MADE LOOKING AT THE VIDEO ON YOUTUBE! IT WAS INTENDED AS A GEAR BOX BUT I ALSO TURNED IT INTO A SHARPENER AND A CHAIN SAW!!! It is hand cranked so... yeahThis is a knex sharpener tool that uses gear ratios to spin the rod at high speeds faster then a large yellow gear to small blue or grey gear ratio which is a 1/5 rotation ratio, for this gearbox though you achieve a magnificent 1/32 rotation ratio. One spin of the cog or yellow gear or starting gear whatever = end rotationWhen spinning at high speeds use a knife or sand paper to refine the sharpness of your rod to a dangerous needle if needed, or you just want to clean up a bad cut job from a pencil sharpener or knife cutter? This gearbox will smoothen out our refine your knex rod... NOTE THIS CAN SHARPEN THE ROD SO SHARP THAT IT IS DEADLY... NEVER EVER FIRE THIS ROD EVER TRUST ME NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER SHOOT THE SHARPENED ROD AT YOURSELF OR SOMEONE OR ON AN UNRELIABLE KNEX GUN OR A STUPID KNEX GUN ETC THIS THING CAN MAKE YOUR RODS DEADLY TRUST ME IT HAPPENED TO ME BEFORE!!Anyway enjoy!

Keepon

Anyone think they could build one? I've been thinking about it.I think what it does is compare 2 different freuqencies (of the song, I'm just going to totally ignore the camera in the eyes part, just want a dancing yellow robot) and depending on the difference of the frequencies it moves a different amount. It probably only moves to lower frequencies, only to beats of songs and not the singing.anyone up to it? I might try...

Stoplight Status Indicator Project

I have never attempted a project before and I imagine it maybe be somewhat simple for some of you.  If I could get any advice on this I would really appreciate it. I would like to make a "stoplight" that consists of three lights/signals.  Yellow, Red and Green.  I'd like to be able to switch what color light is activated by pushing one (or three buttons if that's easier) but only one light should ever be on at one time.  If one button is used then the order the lights would cycle in each time the button is pressed is Yellow --> Red --> Green --> Yellow --> Red --> Green etc etc... Additionally, I'd like a timer to start whenever the Red light is lit.  After the timer reaches 2 minutes I would like the Red light to start flashing on and off.  Basically a warning that the red light has been on for 2 minutes.  Ideally the timer length would be changeable to anywhere from 1-4 minutes.  Also, as a bonus if some sort of LED timer could actually should the timer counting up from zero that could at least count up to 9 minutes 59 seconds that would be awesome. I could easily enough just make a 3 buttons that turn on/off a light, but here are the two main things I need help with: 1) How do I make it so that when the Red light comes up the timer starts and flashes the light at 2 minutes? 2) How do I make a single button cycle between turning on each of the three lights in order each time the button is pressed (e.g. Press once it turns on Yellow and Red & Green off, press again it turns off yellow and turns on Red, press again and it turn off Red and turns on Green, etc Thanks in advance!

Need help sourcing yellow or rgb ultrabright leds

Hi, I am getting tired of ordering "we promize this is ultra bright yellow leds", and then either receive very low luminosity leds, or "590nm" leds which looks orange, not yellow, to me. Useless to say that each time I have to order 50 leds just to see them, or to pay $1 leds with $5 for shipping. So, if anybody know where to find 5mm ultra bright yellow leds, I would really appreciate this information. Maybe using and RGB led is the good solution : since it will use red + green, it will certainly be brighter than the 590nm leds I've found. And if they are common anode, I can use only RGB leds an play with the spare TCL5940 I bought for the mood light :) If someone can take picture of good yellow leds, or RGB leds, with also some ultra bright blue and yellow leds on the picture so I can compare them, it would be nice. If anybody is willing to trade 2 or 4 a few of this yellow or RGB leds for some other colors (or for some plastic optic fiber ?), it would be VERY nice. Of course, the led have to be still aviable at a decent price so I can order a pack of 50 or 100 after I have tested them or seen them in .jpg . Thanks you, tReg.

I need an epoxy that won't yellow when heated (to 230 F) - please help.

I'm doing some craft projects where I'm attaching small LED lights behind pieces of glass and crystal-type stones.  Then I'm adding some decorative elements using Fimo clay.  The problem is, due to certain LED and clay placement, I need to bake the clay *after* connecting it to the glass/stones.  So the entire piece goes in the oven.  The lights and solder hold up just fine to the 230 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes.  My epoxy, however, turns very yellow.  If I have a blue piece of glass with a white LED epoxied to it, it shines very much green.  So basically, does anybody know of an epoxy that won't go yellow when exposed to heat?

Combining (Rewiring) Earphones Together

Hello! I'm having trouble rewiring my Ipod earphones. Currently I have two sets of nonworking earphones. One is an Ipod 3rd generation earphones. Pretty standard, ones you can find anywhere. The earbuds are completely busted on this one, and thus it does not work. The second one is Iphone earphones, and thus has a little mic component along the right earphone cord. This one, the bottom jack is completely busted. What I want to do this cut and combine the bottom 1 inch (including the jack) of my ipod earphone with my Iphone earphones. I understand this will render the mic capability useless. The ipod earphones have 4 wires inside, yellow, red, green, and red/green. The iphone ones have 6 wires. green, blue, yellow, red, red/yellow, and another yellow. How do I match these up to work? Thank you so much in advance!

I need help with Guitar Hero World Tour!!!!

Today I got Rb2 and GH4 For Xmas. I heard the rockband drums work with gh4. So, today I tried GH4. The orange note was still there. If you don't get it, then what I am trying to say is that GH4 Drums have 6 different notes: Red,Yellow,Green,Blue,Orange, and Purple (Bass). Rockband has 4: Red, Yellow, Blue, Green, Orange (Bass). Usually when you play the RB drums on Gh, you see the original 4 colors (You cant see bass till you hit it). But I saw 5. I couldn't hit the extra note because I didn't have an orange pad... PLEASE HELP

Is it possible to hook up a device using composite video (from the red, white, and yellow tri-cables) to my computer?

I ripped open a cheap mini surveillance camera and removed the IR filter, but now I'm tied to the TV if I want to see what it does. I believe it uses a composite video cable, (the yellow cord on those red, white, and yellow three-in-one cables), to output the video to the TV. Is it possible (as in cheap :P ) to connect that cable to my computer and view the video? I'd been thinking that I would just use an adapter to convert it to S-video, but the port on my laptop clearly says "S-video Output," so I doubt that it would be able to interpret the signal. Free apps for this? I'm open to ideas.

burn out light in flickering LED without killing flicker chip

Hi.  I want to use a flickering LED (like the kind you'll find in dollar store candles) to make a different LED flicker (because I don't want yellow and can't find any other colors).  Should be fairly simple.  However, I don't want to use up my battery powering the yellow light.  So my question is, does anybody have ideas on how to fry the light without killing the flicker-chip along with it?

Question regarding colour

Hi everyone! So here is another confusion in my mind.  I know that colours are a result of electromagnetic radiation in the visible spectrum interacting with our eyes.  The visible spectrum consists of 7 colours, abbreviated VIBGYOR. Now my question is, what are primary colours and secondary colours? And how come mixing of two colours produce an entirely different  colour? I expected that all 7 of them would be primary. But that is not the case.  Also, for illustrating the real world scenario from which this doubt crawled into my mind, consider that i have two pieces of translucent films, one blue, and other yellow. Now initially i place the blue film in-front of a white bulb, then it filters all other colours other than blue. Now place a yellow in-front of the blue, and there, you have green. What is the working principle behind this? How come the "blue" light turned "green" after passing through the yellow film?

Stepper Motors..

I recently pulled two stepper motors out of a working IBM dot-matrix printer. One larger, 3v one with 1.8 steps. The other is a smaller, 9.5v one with 7.8 steps. I am more interested in the large one right now. I managed to find out that the large one has center-tapped coils. I also found out that Coil 1 is red-white-brown, coil 2 is blue-black-yellow. I found the schematic below on http://ashishrd.blogspot.com/2007/09/computer-controlled-stepper-motor.htmlI was wondering how this could be adapted to control my motor from a PC program with the ULN2003 (that chip sounds like UT2003)? Here are the complete residences of what I found on the wires with a multimeter, in case that helps. Resistances:Red to Brown: 8 ohms (or 7 some times)Red to White: 4 ohmsWhite to Brown: 4Blue to Yellow: 7Yellow to Black: 4Black to Blue: 4

K'NEX Machine Gun (Does Not Use "Barrel Per Bullet" Design)

How it should (How I want it to) work. Background: Uses a rack and pinion system to draw back a firing pin to launch projectiles(firing pin not shown).1. Crank (black rod) will be turned, spinning the pinion, which in turn draws back the rack. First picture shows the racks in default position. They are locked in place against the pinions by the yellow connectors stopping the orange connectors (center).2. Rubber bands attached to the racks pull them inward, but is stopped by the yellow connectors. Once it reaches the end, the rubber bands pulling the racks will pull them inward suddenly. This will free the racks from the pinions, so turning the crank will not pull back the mechanism any more. 3. Once the racks impacts the front, the force of the impact pushes it against the angled yellow structure, thus resetting the racks into default again.Basically someone build this so it works well, por favor.
