what zune?

What zune should I get? Zune 16 or Zune 120? Or should I even get a Zune? Please tell me! Half of me says get the zune 16 because it is smaller and more portable and I think it might come in different colors. But the other half says if I get a Zune, might as well get the 120 gig. Please help.

MP3 books to ZUNE

I just got a Zune, I like to listen to recorded books while I work, which is reasonably easy to do with the Zune interface software and most books on CD. THE PROBLEM is books recorded as MP3 files. Strangely enough here is an "MP3 Player" that cannot handle MP3 data directly... At least this is my experience so far. Placing a MP3 recorded book CD in the drive and while I CAN listen to it on the laptop using Zune's Software interface. Trying to transfer the files to the Zune unit creates error files that are unusable and so far I have not been able to remove from the Zune. Admittedly I'm a newbe to the Zune but have been using computers since the Atari 800 came out too many years ago for me to admit to...ANY help would be appreciated. Possibly there's something I just have not found as yet.

Zune 80 Cases

Hey, I'm new to posting on this site, so if I am posting in the wrong area, please forgive me. And I'm not sure if I can make requests, but if I can, I have one. I bought one of the new Zune 80's and have been looking around for a case specially designed for the Zune 80 and not the Zune 30, but can only find two. So I am just wondering if anyone out there can make an instructable on how to make a Zune 80 case, if it isn't too hard. Thanks.

Solar Device Charger: No complication required?

Hey community! Anyways, so I have a fairly simple question for everyone who's solar-savvy out there today, and it's about a fancy thing called a USB charge cable. Now, I may as well be a specific as possible, seeing as it's really for one device, but I may expand this project to ellipse more than one device. Here the question: Do charge cables and USB hubs automatically (built-in) regulate voltage, or am I going to have to get funky with some or this stuff? If you think you have the answer to my prayers, or need me to elaborate a bit, feel free to respond. Thanks! Ewitwins

Help me fix ma zune!

I've got to fix this damn zune, there's no warrenty on it and all in all it's a piece of crap. The guy doesn't care that much if it can't be fixed. I've got shit webcam reference pictures. You'll see that the battery has the terminals connected to a small IC board with 3 solder pads on it, and a voltage regulator of some sort on the bottomside of it. The ribbon cable has 3 little metal spades that solder to those pads on the battery. There's voltage coming out of the pads (I don't have a voltmeter, just a tongue but that works just as good). When I've got the ribbon cable soldered to the battery and I touch the end of it to my tongue I can feel current, so why is it that only once in a while I get power to the zune? Like if I wiggle the cable around sometimes I can get a low battery symbol to come up and then it shuts off. I don't know why it's still showing a low batt symbol because I charged it and it feels like there's a good charge in there so what's the problem? I wanna get this fixed so I can play around with it, no I've never had the pleasure of a zune :p. Thanks guys for anything you can help me with. I was thinking maybe the IC came loose from soldering/desoldering the cable a few times, but it still appears to be stuck on the board pretty good. Well look at the pictures and decide for yourself. It's starting to look like I'll be buying a new battery, which apparently the ipod 30/60 gig batteries are the same size/amperage and can be used in the zune and at a low price of $14, I can probably get a battery that'll last longer than the factory one eh?

Computer won't detect 8gb zune-brand new, 28 hours out of box-can you help?

Hey, all.Yesterday, I bought an 8 gb zune and brought it home. I tried turning it on, but all I got was a screen w/ the zune logo, so I figured I had to leave it charging. I went home, disconnected the zune as per instructions I read on the official site, downloaded the software, installed the software (after redownloading because the first one got interrupted and thus currupted), and plugged it in.The software never recognized it. I kept getting the zune logo (on the player screen), no matter what. Once, I got it to say "charging", but that's it. I left it connected with the logo screen on all night and all this morning, and this afternoon have played with it with no success. Did a hard reboot. Finally got it to turn on when disconnected and say something about connecting to the social network or something, but pressing the ok button in the center of the zune didn't work. Neither did pressing play, or back. It showed critical battery and turned itself off. Did this twice more, apparently I've completely drained the battery because it won't turn on at all now. If I connect it now, the computer dings over and over and over like it knows something is happening but can't figure it out. Apparently this is a common problem, I have googled and tried many things with no success.I've tried all my usb ports, it's brand new out of the box, so is the cord, I know all my usb ports work.It does show up under device manager, with a yellow question mark beside it.I'm about ready to return this piece of microsoft junk, before I do, I thought I'd see if anyone has a zune or knows how to fix this...Can anyone help me?

Power bypass circuit?

Hey everybody, Ok so here's the deal...I'm building some external speakers for my zune. I'm using some the board out of some old computer speakers to amplify the sound. Right now, since I'd like to make it portable, I've got it hooked up to a 12v regulator going to two 9v batteries. Since it seems to drain the batteries of charge pretty quickly, I'd really like a better way to keep them powered when I'm near a wall outlet (like when I'm at home). I managed to find an old 12v wall adapter that I could use as a constant source of power. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure that I can't have it and the batteries hooked up at the same time. So what I'd like to know is how do you build a bypass circuit (or whatever it's called) so that, when the wall adapter is plugged in, the board will draw power from it instead of the batteries? Sorry for the long read, and happy building everyone.

Holy Toledo! Z2K9!!!

Right, so this is a weird one: we're getting tons of reports—tons—about failing Zune 30s. Apparently, the players began freezing at about midnight last night, becoming totally unresponsive and practically useless.D:It's true! My Zune gave me a picture of a battery with a sad face when I turned it on!GAPS!"They" speculate that it has something to do with the "leap second" this year. It's like Y2K all over again! BUT WORSE.Read the whole thing here, from Gizmodo.

MP3 Players and Magnets Newb Help Please?

I am planning on doing the project below for my Zune using a dry box and a marine speaker so I can take it canoeing with friends. The one thing I was wondering is if the speaker's magnet will wipe out my Zune's HD seeing as I would mount it in the box near the speaker. I know I can find shielded speakers, but I don't want to shell out a heck of a lot of cash for only one speaker seening as this is my first project like this. https://www.instructables.com/id/Simple-iPod-Amp/Help would be appreciated very much.

Youtube is horrible now

So, when I went to Youtube one day, I watched a Rockband video. And I'm like... okay, why did this person put different music on the video? Then I realized it was on most youtube videos. THEN, my favorite Youtube account was suspended. Why was all of this happening? Copywriting. I mean, most people probably bought the song off of Zune or Itunes. Most videos that look awesome are ruined because of the earache-cheap-cheesy garbage youtube puts onto videos. I think we should start a boycott or someone should start a petition or something! Does anyone have any other ideas?

LED Lights and Music

To get a general idea of what's going on, I'm a CAD student and we are studying Electricity -- I was looking at a recent instructables guide that showed how to make a box that lights up to music. Well I was planning on doing something similar with a few twists. 1) Dependant on the frequency, there are certain LEDs that will light up 2) The ability to plug in a MP3 Player (Zune is my test subject) 3) The addition of two (2) small speakers around the size of maybe 2 inches My questions pertain to what exactly will I need to do here and where I can find information on the parts required for this project. By all means please try and refrain from giving me specific parts (If it requires a Transistor with some requirements [If a transistors do have any differences] please just say Transistor with x requirements). I don't mean to sound rude but I really want to try and figure things out on my own, but I'm not sure where to really look. I would grab bits and pieces off of these Instructables (Which are all very nice) but I want to actually know why to use a Transistor by reading up on it. If anyone can also mention to me a good place for speakers of smaller size I would appreciate that as well. Assuming I'll have problems with connecting certain things like a plug for a Zune -- if you are willing to lend your help please just mention it as a response. Thank you all a head of time!

This song drives me crazy!!!

Okay so here's the deal: I downloaded a Coheed and Cambria album off of zune marketplace. Love that album! But one thing, there is this song called "Always & Never". It is very catchy, great guitar... but there is just something about it. Weird background voices/noises, it freaking hypnotizes me!!! Does anyone know if there is a story behind this odd song?If you have never heard the song before go here and tell me what you think: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYKZfM-itEUP.S. I know I have said it before.. but there are freaky background voices/noises. Listen for them. It's like giggling, screeching, gibberish baby talk, random words.

Bungie Bag O' Swag

Hey guys, So, if you're as big a fan of Halo as me, you'd find that Bungie has a special Bag O' Swag on sale, for their 20th anniversary, and leaving Halo. They have anything from a Tshirt to a Zune to signed games to high-quality figures. There are only 777 in existence. AND I FRIGGEN GOT ONE! OH YEAH! What was the most interesting thing, though, was that people were staying up all day and night, trying to get one, and they didn't come close. I managed to get one by sitting at the computer for TWO AND A HALF HOURS, and my dad's bank account just got billed(also, Amazon, says it's being "processed for shipment") So, did anyone else get one?

I need video game ideas!

I am currently starting to design an Xbox 360 game using Microsoft XNA Game Studio (a library for rmaking X360, Zune and PC games in the C# language), but I am stumped at thinking of ideas. I have thought of many that seem good at the time, but while starting to plan, program, or make graphics for them, i realize it wasn't that good of an idea and give up on them. If it is good enough, it will be sold on the Xbox LIVE marketplace (under Community Games) and can win a contest. If you do help me and give a suggestion, please know this will be a 2D game (i can do all the work for a small game, but I can't do 3d modelling). Also, I can use an advanced physics engine and there aren't really any limits to ideas I could use. If you do give me an idea, I can even give you credit in the game. Also, it should be something original and innovative, think outside the box! Thanks in advance if you do help me out, this is probably the hardest part of game making!

Power Surge Fried my Integrated Network Card?

At least, it seems this way. I while ago we had a weird "power surge like thing". It was odd... It seemed to "restart" some electronics...I was on my computer when It happened, it was like a really close lightning bolt. Though after it scared the crap out of me and I looked at my screen, the computer was still on and everything was running. Then windows started to act like I had just unplugged everything and plugged them back in. It started to read my flashdrive, my printer turned back on and announced the black ink was low (stupid $35+ ink :P), etc. Since it was going nowhere I just held the power button and shut er off. Then, later, after turning it all back on I found that it didn't have an internet connection. I finally got one after unplugging my router (Which I could still get a connection through the wifi) and connecting my modem to my comp through usb instead. I think it fried my NIC. ...crap Think that's what happened, and I'll have to buy a pci adapter instead? Thanks,RX --This is odd too. I went upstairs and my PSP, and Zune were both turned on. Neither were plugged in and both were completely off....and now it seems my tv is blown out.

Damn you service pack three!

Well I finally gave in to the little pop-up box in the corner of the screen and installed Xp service pack three and it messed me about something shocking... A list of issues: - The quazi-vista theme I was running wet itself completely, now replaced with Zune theme - Firefox three got very upset and now has a mint theme because it had a bog standard theme that looked similar - The startup screen (login bit) and the login screen for password protection on knocking off screensaver is going mad, both do work but have some bizarre half breed theme on the go - The computer ticked and banged for ages - Multiple other weird ones - Oh startup programs decided to appear, suddenly I was inundated by FF, messenger, skype, media player and photoshop all opening on startup rather than just wireless G-utility... The odd three are on my taskbar list, some connection... Skype, I have no clue. Before the restart everything worked really oddly, I caught on that it was time because it refused me the ability to install programs and generally messed around. On the upside I hit a couple of sites and the combination of a less heavyweight theme and a ram optimiser majigger have got the computer running faster, now I'm just clawing back all my old settings. Slowly.

Instructables Podcast Update...

I wanted to take a minute to thank the people here in the forums who listened to the podcast Jake and I put out, for giving us feedback and sending us questions. It was really helpful and a lot of fun. Unfortunately the response from the community here doesn't seem to really want a podcast, and that's okay. To the four of you who might have enjoyed it, Jake and I have set up our own space for the podcast, and will continue publishing them outside of Instructables. We both love Instructables, and we'll still reference it a ton in the podcast, but we felt that the podcast might be better served by venturing out on its own. I also don't really want to clutter up the forums with my nonsense. I didn't get a chance to post last weeks episode here, but it was a really good one that pulled questions from the forums on Makezine, and this week we ventured into guns and 3D printing. You can find all of our current and future episodes on our website, subscribe to our rss feed, through iTunes, and I'm sure there's a couple other places you can find us (Zune marketplace anyone?). It was a lot of fun testing the waters of our podcast here, and we really appreciate Instructables staff letting us do it. I hope those of you who enjoyed the podcast will follow us over to the new space and keep listening. Thanks for the support, and have fun!
