Ads on my own ibles Answered

I am getting ads when viewing my own instructables. I'm logged in, have a current pro account, and tried logging out and in again. When viewing other author's instructables, there are no ads.

I see banner and side ads on any instructable. forum content does not show these.

This happened again to me last week, too, but only on one computer. Clearing the cache seemed to fix it.

Update:

I believe we fixed this bug about a month ago, then accidentally reverted our own fix while releasing urgent changes elsewhere. We try to release very little in October, so we expect to get the fix for this rereleased next week along with a bunch of other changes.

I'll post here once the release goes live.

One of the best things you can do to be rid of ads from all web sites is install "disconnect me" under "tools> add-ons" while Im writing this is blocking 24 ads.

If you use chrome google "disconnect for chrome"

Pro members shouldn't have to do that, though - one of the listed perks of being pro is "less adverts".

Logged in Pro members should not see any ads in the body of the Instructable, period. You may see one in the header, and you may see two in the sidebar, but there shouldn't be any inline. Please let us know if this is not the case. Our testing has revealed no bugs in this area currently.

We did see an issue briefly last week where ads appeared for pro users in the body of the Instructable. This was an honest mistake and a bug, not a deliberate push for more ads. Please let me know if we've missed the mark!

There should not be any ads at all for pro members. I'm getting a header and one above the ible info on the right sidebar that follows me as I scroll down. I have never seen ads before as a pro member, and adding ads for pro, regardless of whether it's less than non-pro, would be very uncool.

I stand corrected, my apologies! I don't see this view very often myself, but I was pretty sure we'd always shown the leaderboard and sidebar ads. I can confirm though that you're correct.

We'll get that fixed for pro's pronto!

Phil, see bricabrac's comment above.

I have also been getting the ads this last week, using Win10 & up-to-date FireFox.

That's your problem, right there. ;-P

Meh, it could be - I have a "feature" where, if I plug the laptop in while it's running, the screen goes black, and stays black until I restart...

Weird.... so the sidebar ads disappeared, then came back again last week? Especially odd since we make zero changes during October to keep things consistent around Halloween.

I do see that the sidebar ads and leaderboard are present for pro users. We'll take a look.

The ads in the banner and to the side are new, since (it appears) the recent update. I hadn't seen banner/side ads for months, and then it was explained (I think) as a side effect of a geographically-limited contest - it was only being advertised in the US, so the rest of the world got that space filled by an ad.

That Tandy Leather ad was in the "Lets Make" header/search bar and was only up for a few days. With the exception of the "Lets make" banner changing to an add shortly and sporatically, I have not seen a single ad on instructables for years. I would expect the same on your end, since you've been pro forever.

Yup, you're right, and yes, I have been (I can't remember the exact date, but I turned Pro in the first couple of days of Pro).

Or the ones that when you scroll down the ad stays put!

Especially the one's that flash at you insisting you look at them!

It's now very annoying to be a pro member and get these ads...I can't get rid of them and it makes reading anyone's instructable unenjoyable because they are an intrusion and unwarranted!

Snap, although sometimes all I get is a blank space where the add should be, plus a small button that takes me here:

There's an opt-out option on that website.

Which doesn't really work, because all I get is a different ad from a different agency.

When I opt out of that one, it's replaced by an ad from google, and there isn't an opt-out option there...

Actually, I'm getting ads on any instructable I look at.

so am I it actually started for me when I logged out then back in

Me too, but I'm getting them on all articles, not just my own
