Cambridge Science Festival Answered

I hope this is not a repeat, but I have read that the Cambridge Science Festival will be held on March 10-20 in Cambridge, England

Cambridge Science Festival

Grand Opening Event

Carol Vorderman, the Vice-Chancellor and aliens from Dr Who will open the Festival and invite you to discover the world of Science.

With activities exploring the South Pole to China, there's something to suit all ages.

This does look like it is an event aimed mostly at the younger crowd, however.

Anyone flying to the UK? I'll hide in your suitcase. I wonder what "aliens" from Doctor Who will be there? I'm guessing the Slitheen.

Hmm, I thought there was an episode where the last one died? (PS: I don't get to see the show very often, so I could be mistaken)

Yeah, but they always come back. I remember the one you saw, hint: the daleks come back after that.

Hmm, this whole trend started when they brought Bobby Ewing back to life, you know that, right ? LOL

Yeah, the "bringing back the ones that had died on shows and movies"; and now the daleks are back. :-)

If you are outside the UK, the following may contain spoilers. Read at your own risk.

  • So far, the entire Dalek race has expired in the Time War, but one last Dalek fell through time and landed on Earth, ended up in the clutches of a collecter, but destroyed itself after being contaminated by Rose's humanity.
  • Then it turned out that the Dalek Emperor had survived the Time War, and spent several hundred years going insane on the edge of the Solar System and building new Daleks from human flesh. Rose absorbed the power of the Tardis and used it to destroy the Daleks to their very last molecule.
  • Then it turned out that the Emperor's personal guard had also survived the Time War, along with a Time Lord prison full of millions of Daleks. They were sucked through into a parallel dimension after the Battle of Canary Warf (against Cybermen from the alternate dimension).
  • Then it turned out that the Emperor's guard had slipped away by emergency time jump to 1930s depression New York, and were behind the building of the Empire State Building, which was really a giant cosmic antenna powering their experiments in hybridising humans and Daleks to form humanoid Daleks (known to my boys as "willy heads"). All but one of the Daleks was destroyed - the last Dalek used an emergency time-jump to escape to ... ?

Oh, and the best series were definitely when Sylvester McCoy was doing it!

Philistine - the only good scenes McCoy did as the Doctor were his opening scenes in the other-wise dismal McGann movie.

The best Doctors, in chronological order, are Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker and David Tennant!

What is really sad, I remember an episode from the "early days", before special effects and a budget of any kind, when he traveled back to the day they were created, set up the explosives and etc. but could not bring himself to make sure the Daleks were never created. It was one of the more memorable episodes from the old days :-)

Yeah I did. I thought Kiteman, for one, would like to know about it, although I am not sure how close he is to the event itself.

Thanks, GH. I had heard about the event. It's just one of several events in the nation-wide Science and Engineering Week.

Unfortunately, that is also the time when our school (and most other schools with 11-year olds or 13-year olds in them) are putting their pupils through the last bits of intensive revision for their SATs.

The event is badly timed, I think, since so many pupils can't access the event because their school is readying for exams.
