Camping! Answered

See you, chaps - I'm away for the next two days helping out at group archery camp. Several dozen small children with pointy things, and I'm scoring. :-/ See you Sunday night (UK time)

Ah, I'm back - sunburned and aching.

The weather was far better than I expected (last time I camped at this site, last May, the camp floated away. Literally.), so I took waterproofs, wellingtons and no suncream. A pleasant breeze completely disguised the fact we were all slowly crisping. Since I wore a hat, I am red up to my nose, and white above that.

I was also using my new tent - the whole flysheet is a union flag - which turned out to be half an inch too short for my camp bed, so I ended up on a roll mat. I am too old to sleep on a roll mat (oh, I ache).

Plus, a local cadet force turned out to be doing a night exercise in the area - I was woken by marching chants ("we don't know but we've been told...") at 3:30AM.

Still, and grand time was had by all - #1 son didn't come, he went to a friend's birthday sleepover, #2 son and Kitewife only came for the Beavers' section archery slot (which is why I used my Union Flag tent and not the much-bigger family tent). He was disappointed that the Beavers only got to use blunted arrows.

District archery competition day today - Scouts and Explorers. Our Scouts came second with only half a team, but our Explorers thrashed the opposition (it helped to have a competition field-archer on the team...)

So, I'm back. Hot shower, hot food and a beer, please. Then episode 2 of the latest Doctor Who series. Sontarans - woohoo!

Oh, and the second series of Heroes has started over here - don't spoil it for me.

He dies.

Oh you said don't spoil it...

Now, there's an emoticon that is suitable here... Oh, yes, I remember:

Teachers using emoticons? What is this world coming to?

If only they could develop a method of teaching using strictly emoticons. Boring subjects (like english) would become instantaneously amusing!

But it wouldn't be english, would it? It would be emotlish or something.

If you don't like emotlish, what about smilish or textlish?

(How would your homework get marked? You could text it to the teacher, but where would the red ink go?)

Precisely! Imagine your emotlish teacher making funny faces at you. Oh dear, I could sit in that class for hours!

LOL - that's it perfectly (no, I am not going to make that my avatar!)

Please don't spoil the latest doctor who episode either! The newest episode was the one with the cute little fat creatures.

Oddest beasties ever. The rest of the series is just as good - we've got another old adversary turning up, plus a not-so-old friend.

Don't tell me! Please! I've already seen Rose. But old adversary, like from the old old episodes? OR old adversary, meaning we have seen him in the new version of the show, just a previous series?

Well, we've seen the Sontarans, they're from the original series, but I don't know which episodes you've seen.

If you want trailers, check out http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/ - there's all sorts on there, including clips and sounds of the last three series.

I've seen all of the episodes from the last three series, all of them, at least twice. But the old ones seem to be hard to get ahold of. I've been wanting to get all of the old shows in like a box set, or something like that, but I can't seem to find one.

I've seen those, I'm talking about the episodes from way, way, way, back when.

Ack, sorry I thought I had a link to the 1963 series *sigh*

I found a set of the old episodes. For five hundred dollars...

Wow, that's what I paid for my first (used) car (in 1976) :-)

Why were they doing an exercise at 3:30 in the morning? I wouldn't be too happy with them....

I was in the cadets, it's just what they do, our best oopsy was letting a blanks firefight go on to private land by mistake, a farmer saterted returning fire, we scarpered... It was fun...

Hehe, I saw the latest DW, the sontarans don't seem very aggressive... in fact kinda friendly. =)

Wait until the next episode... (As I recall, when they first arrived in the old series, they were accompanied by a carnivore - a chap with lots of red hair that ate any animal he found, humans included).

Whoa! Sounds awesome!

Have fun! =) (Don't let #1,2 sons shoot their eyes out!)

Hey, that is my line (Now I know I am getting old, I missed that one....) :-)

Lucky duck! Camping's amazing. Especially on the lake shore... Ah, sweet memories...

Auf Wiedersehen!

Looks like you're trying to avoid my birthday party....

AWWWW! I can't stand it anymore! I need to set up some sort of range for myself! I haven't shot my bow since I moved here 8 months ago! I haven't gone camping for 8 years! (because of my sister, that made me really like her when she was little ) *runs around screaming and foaming at the mouth* Have fun

I haven't been camping for nearly 30 years *sigh* I love camping

I'd love to go camping, but I go crazy if I don't shoot! Honestly, I get so f*ing mad and just explode after a while. It really helps me concentrate and cool down. I feel your pain....

Don't come back full of sharp pointy things! =)

He would have to change his name to Pincushion-Man LOL

good luck and have fun
