Changed username - UTF8 troubles Answered

I've changed my username  and I had used a version with a polish diacritic character. But inside the control panel and in your profile link* "Dźwiedziu" is converted to "Dźwiedziu". Even if you get to view your comments trough it (in example if you have commented on your own Orangeboard  https://www.instructables.com/you?show=ORANGEBOARD ) Nowhere else this bug appears.

So, is this a bug or technical limitations? Do I get a refund on my one-time name change? :P

A similar problem: A friend of mine signed up with the username WitchDoc#42. Now every time I click on certain links on and to his profile, I end up on the profile of a different user, named witchdoc.
For example, if I would try to send him a patch, it would go to witchdoc instead.

Since the site doesn't handle special characters in usernames well, wouldn't it make sense to exclude them in the signup procedure?

There are other instances where anything outside the range of standard US character sets are used like in titles, image notes, coments, Russian language spam that causes weird displays... You should personal email to service@instructables.com to note what you did and request a change to something you want that does not use extended or alternate characters. As for your refund, nothing from nothing is nothing.

You can get your name changed as many times as you want. All you need to do is go here:

You should skip the first option, as that's a one time deal, but post anything you like in the second option. I would strongly recommend against any special characters as you've seen what they do with our system.

Hope that helps.
