Concrete top coat? Answered

I want to refinish my existing concrete hearth. Is there something that I can use to coat the hearth to give it a smooth and colored finish? I am trying not to sand it since it is indoors and I have carpeting in the room.

To smooth out the surface you're going to need to use some kind of abrasive. If the cast was smooth to begin with you can try and use steel wool to remove any bumps. However, if your cast was rough to begin with you have no choice but to use a grinder to get a smooth finish.

I talk about coloring concrete here, you can use a dye to tint the top of the concrete to get the color you want.

As with any refinishing project, start in an inconspicuous area first to determine the results before committing to the entire piece.
