Hi there,

To be eligible to enter a contest, an instructable must be published within the open dates of that contest.

When you visit a specific contest page and you have an instructable that was published during the open dates of the contest, there is an orange button showing that says "Enter Now!"

If your project meets the theme of the contest, click that button to reveal a window where you can select your instructable and submit it to the contest.

You cannot enter an instructable into a contests if it was published prior to the contest dates, however.

The contest rules were updated May 2018: https://www.instructables.com/topics/Important-Changes-to-Contests-May-1st/

So any projects that were posted prior to that date were eligible to enter up to three contests.

However currently, individual instructables projects may only be entered into one contest, and duplicate posting of the same content as different instructables is not allowed.

If you are seeing the same project entered into multiple currently-open contests, please let me know so we can take a closer look, as that should not be happening.

so an old instructable could be entered into a new contest, but a new instructable can not be entered into more than one new contest.

"so an old instructable could be entered into a new contest"

No. As stated in one of my responses above: To be eligible to enter a contest, an instructable must be published within the open dates of that contest.

Anything published prior to the opening date of a given contest will not be eligible to enter.

"but a new instructable can not be entered into more than one new contest"

Correct. Individual instructables projects may only be entered into one contest

I tried to figure that one out for a while myself.
The best I got so far is that some seem "to slip through".
In some case an Instructable however really does fit into the guidelines of more than one running contest.
And even if not really in the fair spirit of things I can't really blame anyone doing it.
For example if there is a make it glow and a woodworking contest then a wooden LED lamp would fit both.
Deciding if entering both contests with the same Ible is fair is one thing.
But making the right decision if something would be good enough to win both contests is a different story.
Might be hard to explain to the later places why the winner of their contest is also first in another with the same project.
Have not seen that yet, so I guess some safeguards are in place.

Most times you cant.
Its a way of seeding new ideas using incentives.
For example under the "how it works" tab of the gardening contest..

Write an Instructable

Create a new Instructable that fits the
guidelines outlined in the contest description above. To be eligible,
Instructables must be published between Apr 1, 2019 and May 27, 2019
