Custom Minecraft Wall Torch Answered

Hello all.

This is my first time here so, I hope I can find the info I need.
I've never used a soldering iron before and know little about wiring, but I'm eager to learn.

I'm looking to customize an electronic Mainecraft wall torch that I have, with a flickering light. However, I wanted to come here first to see if anyone has opened one of these up before.
I was planing on using a flickering light from one of those electric candles. I'm not sure if it's as simple as switching out the LED or if I have to rip more parts from the candle.

I appreciate any help you can give.

Thanks

OK now I have pictures.

The first two are from the torch (a total hemorrhoid to get open) and the other two are from the candle.

I'm not sure if I'm going to need 6 candle LEDs or I might at lease get another, unless I can go to radio shack and buy one.

See that black blob? There's a chip under there, that's what generates the flicker, not the LED itself.

Try connecting more LEDs in parallel to the flickering one, they should flicker as well.

Would it work if I splice the candle board between the power wires and the led board of the torch?

It might at that. What size batteries were in the candle and in the torch?

2 AA's in the candle and 3 AAA's in the torch.

1st thank you for all your help.

@nd I have one last question: on the candle board (not sure if you can tell from the picture) which wire is the positive and negative? I'm talking about the blue ans white wires going to the LED.

Thanks again.

See how the blue wire connects to the long leg of the LED? That makes blue the positive lead.

cool thanks. I'll post a video when I get it done.

So, how could I amalgamate the flicker chip with the torch?

I'm not sure it would all fit.

You can, however, buy flashing LEDs (FLEDs), in a variety of colours. Maybe a mixture of red & yellow FLEDs would give you the flickering flame effect you want?

Pictures, or a link, would be useful...

I'll get the stuff on friday and have pics up on saturday.
