DIY: in Prison Answered

Limited resources? Hiding from authority? No, not a young DIY-er with a low budget and strict parents, but prison inmates trying to get out. Take a look at this collection of photographs by Marc Steinmetz showcasing creative escape tools crafted by German prisoners while in jail. While many of them were confiscated before completion or implementation, a handful of them were used successfully to break out of jail.

While I in no way condone these actions, you've got to admit some of these are creative use of available resources. Plus, if Instructables ever ran an Escaping from Prison contest (sponsored by Alcatraz tourism, anyone?), we'd all be up against some pretty stiff competition.

I think it would be good if we got to test our items....

Haha, yeah why not... I think I should come over to london and start a fight with the lion in trafalgar... BTW, where did all the pigeons go in general? We now have more than you...

I think they got sick of all the little kids chasing them :D Punching that lion would be pretty painful :P

Actually I've got ridiculous teeth, last time a bottle got knocked against them by accident, you know when someone bumps in to you... I ended up spitting out glass for half an hour because it smashed on them...

Did you fill your teeth up with concrete? Heck you might even be able to make a i'ble on how to smash a bottle on your teeth (or how to fill your teeth with concrete

but I don't like spitting glass out (but i still use my teeth to pull lights out of christmas light strings and they liked to break in my mouth, which I didn't like)

It's really annoying because you have to make it fall out or cut the hell out of your mouth...

I second the Escaping from Prison Constest idea!!

Ok, sounds like fun. Are you in line for the body cavity search, or the de-lousing?

They do that at jail now?

and I thought I had to stay away from the airport
:D

seventhification , eightification and ninthification

one million, one hundred eighty six thousand, two hundred twenty nineified.

A google is a one with one hundred zeroes behind it. A hundred only has two zeroes behind it, like so: 100. So, a google is 1, with a hundred 0s behind it. Even more fun is a googleplex, which is a one with a google number of zeroes behind it. Consult Wikipedia for something a bit more in-depth.

i wouldnt say more fun, just longer and more confusing.

I want to see an escape from prison instructable.

Sometimes being desperate brings the most out of people. Nice find..thanks for posting.

Give the credit to Eric, who forwarded it to me from a friend.

I agree there needs to be a contest! ( I know how to hop the fence) and im not even an illegal im.!

My work have suspected me so many times I've learned how to from being asked to give them more copies of my N.I. card..

I remember watching the history channel once when they were talking about prisons. Appartently, one guy managed to make a gun and silencer/flashguard and shot another prisoner.

Yeah, Escape From alcatraz contest FTW! Those photography makes me remember the alcatraz episode from mythbuster, a prisonner even made a bolt action pistol with plumbing parts !

Reminds me of The Shawshank Redemption.

escape from alcatraz... that is an ingenious idea. I live in SF, actually, and there are people who swim the gap for charity and stuff. Escape is an entirely different concept..... although.... where there's a will there's a way, right? plus, the best tourist attraction they have right now is a set of ghost stories.
