DarkOwlKnex's Project Update Three Answered

I've been doing a lot of stuff the past week.  I have to memorize songs for band, do summer homework, yada, yada, yada.  But, as always, I've found time for K'nex, and this is what I've come up with.  If there's enough interest in any combination of these, I'll post accordingly.

The first picture is of the 'collaboration project' I had with Dr. Richtofen.  X3  It really wasn't a collaboration...  It was really me looking back through Dr. Richtofen's many successful attempts at a non-shooting Walther PPK and trying to make them shoot.  When I was finished building, I realized something: there was no firing pin for the gun that would make sense; the red rod was too short (it didn't reach the end of the barrel) and the black rod was too long (it stuck out the end).  I could've used a red rod firing pin and jammed the bullets down the barrel, (it was a singleshot) but I thought better of it.  I'd say at least 50% credit goes to Dr. Richtofen for that project.

The second picture is just a random little pistol I made out of boredom after scrapping the PPK.  it was cute and compact, but the next day, after I woke up at three in the morning because I couldn't sleep, I had a revelation...

What if I used the type of trigger off of The Racker Rifle (link below) on a mag in the handle gun, and positioned it just perfectly as to have the trigger block behind the handle.  I'd then give it removable magazines like on Blue Mullet's K'nex Handle Removable Pistol (link below).  The last three pictures are the result of about an hours work so far; I may update again soon. (Oh, and the Elvis mouse pad is my Dads, not mine; my Dad's a big fan, obviously.)

Thanks for viewing!

UPDATE:  The big pistol thing is now named George, and I have pictures of it completed structurally, and internally.  It is now in Pre-Beta.
UPDATE/NOTE: The internals you see in the last picture won't work, sadly.  I've updated it so that it now functions.

Thanks! Sadly, there was no firing pin that would make sense for it: red was too small and grey was too big. I feel like we ask each other this question a lot, but do you have any upcoming projects? :3

Well, again, building off the internals here won't work... I'm trying to get pictures of the new updated pistol with a slide, but my camera's not working, unfortunately.
With that in mind, knock yourself out! :3

:3 I would got with an anvil if I were you, but... Y'know that's just me. Go knock yourself out. Go start some sick fires!!! :3

Y'know... Just a friendly reminder. :3

Well in that case, good luck!!! I'd love to see how it turns out. *hint hint wink wink nudge*

*cough* *post pictures* *cough*

Hmm, y'know, long ago I dreamed of the "perfect side arm" which basically had three (and a half) traits: 1. Removable handle magazine. 2. A trigger that blocks behind it. 3. A slide. And then the half is just that it'd still be somewhat compact. I never thought of using that trigger concept, which would allow for a slide. Suppose you could try to slim down the gun and add a slide?

:3 Well, I've already absofreakinglutely nailed that half step: it now uses a red rod ram. I'm not to sure about the slide though. I've never done a slide before, and I don't really like the idea of one, but what the heck... I'll give it a try. :3

I wouldn't say nailed. Sure, it's not huge, but take a look at my TDSS. That's how compact I was thinking. But if you can keep the size of yours while adding a slide, then it'll be just fine. But yeah, I actually don't care for slides as far as practicality goes. My Oodassault 3 started off with a slide but I took it off right away. It's just for the sake of combining all the features.

Oh, yeah... The pictures of the tiny version I made will never be posted because I dismantled it. At the time I replied, I'd made a version that used a red rod ram. It's gone now, but I do have a model with a slide that I made, and it is a bit more 'slim.' Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like I was on an ego trip with the 'nailed' thing.

That's fine. And sorry to get to you late but I just got another idea. XP This might be a challenging step, but suppose now you could give the gun a chambering action? So, like bolt action but instead using the slide instead of a bolt handle? It'll increase the range much more as you put the ammo farther forward.

Wait a minute... You're not late... You replied only like 20 minutes later. I replied like about 10 hours later, so I guess I'm sorry. :3

Mental Note: Always check the times that people reply.

It's fine. XP I realize I should've mentioned it before. Chambering just wasn't originally a concept included in the original idea so I didn't think of it at first. But as far as a feature list:
-Reliable returning slide (pull back, automatically pulls forward)
-Slide lock (triggered either manually and/or when the last round is fired)
Those are all optional challenges. I figure a trigger safety should be pretty easy. The slide would also be simple, just gotta make sure it reliably loads the gun without manually needing to operate the slide back. Finally, the slide lock might be tricky so I don't expect it, but if you can pull it off, more power to you.

TD... :3 Just let me upload the pictures of the finished gun with a slide, and let me actually use it a little bit. *sheesh* :3 I'm probably going to upload it as an instructable as it is, and then for the second edition, I'll give it chambering action. :3 Don't worry, the 'perfect' sidearm will be made eventually, but I'll just give you some time to think of the things that the perfect sidearm needs before you think of something else.

The community has become so much more awesome ever since you came around (no offense intended to anyone). That PPK is pretty boss, and everything else is looking good.

BTW, you know you can just post pictures of stuff you're working on on your Orange Board (OB), as opposed to making a new forum topic every time you have something new. =D Its not a big deal though.

Thanks. It's an absolute honor to know that I'm making the community better. :D I sort of like posting my new stuff as a forum topic, because it's kind of awkward to type as much as I did here and address it to no one in particular. Not that this is addressed to anyone, but, for some reason, it feels weird to post stuff like this on my orange board. I think it's just an OCD thing. Or should I say, CDO, in alphabetical order, as it should be (Bad joke, sorry. :3)

Also, my camera's not working, so I can't upload the new version of the pistol I showed last. It now has a slide, is more compact, and is just all around awesome. I haven't banded it and fired it yet, but it really looks like it'll work. :3

And the K'nex forums are really meant for this purpose. I follow a path of looking at what was recently posted and then what's on the forums. I don't want to have to poke around on user accounts to see works in progress.

You have a Mac lol but as well as the dunkis said you should add a slide or let one of us add a slide hmmmmm I might make one hmmmmm,

Ok, I'll totally let you add a slide. I'm going to work on it now, and I'll get a final version. Once you add the slide, you can show me how you did it, and I'll make an instructable giving you half credit and a link to your profile. Dealio? I might try to make a slide myself first, though.

Wait a second... Before you build anything...

I've finished it, (pretty much; I just need to put bands on it and make the removable magazine) slide and all. Unless you want to edit it a bit for the lulz before I post it, don't bother. Oh, and one last thing: I've completely redone the pistol, so you really can't build from the pictures, as I have tested the one in the picture and it doesn't work, sadly. Pictures will be posted in a few minutes.

On an off-topic note, what instrument do you play?

Cool. I noticed something, look at the last pic in the backround.......
