Easy wiring projects Answered

I have seen beginner electronics projects but most of the things that they make arent really functional theyre just kinda display things like led throwers or custom made circuit board. I want to learn electronics but not by reading a guide but by doing the diy projects that create electronics items that are functional....does anyone know of any?


Think of something specific you would like to learn and then search specifically for that. Or, look at something that is less than you desire and figure out on paper what it needs in order to suit your purpose. It's a great way to learn, actually adding to a design prior to building something. It hits your brain a few different ways and therefore stimulates more neurons.

Thanks didn't think of that, only problem is I'm an extreme beginner at electronics so ill have to learn all the gear and terms but its hard because I usually do better ith hands on learning.... :(

I suggest you split the stuff up in subprojects.
See, since you will in the end design, create, build and test own electronics, you should learn the basics in a separated context.

Those include:
- Designing a schematic
- Layout the PCB
- Etch the PCB
- Solder the parts
- Searching for bugs
- Mechanical work (for cases and such)

As others already wrote: The best thing is (as you want) to select one project you want to do. Keep it simple for starters...
Lets say a plant-water-monitor: If the resistance of the soil drops below x Ohms, a LED shall be lit.

Come up with a methodical solution like i did already for you (The description of the project). Now break it down to the fundamentals: How to measure the resistance? How to compare 2 voltages (since you will have a voltage as indicator for the resistance)?
Of course such steps require some sort of electronics basic already known. If you dont have any clue you should polish your electronics-knowhow first. That can be done with reading (heay: electronics IS a theoretic-heavy field) or reading and trying to understand the solutions of others to similar problems.

If you have a working solution, you can simulate it if you want. I suggest LTSpice for that (free). May need some getting used to, but it you have that down, it is really a accurate simulation.

Now you can build a first breadbord-version as test. either solder or temporary.

It it works, you can go to a custom-made PCB.
That involves the design of the PCB. For that i suggest Eagle (also free). If you have that made, the etching is due.
Also this process has in fact 3 steps:
1.: Transfer the layout to the copperclad
2.: Etch
3.: Drill
For the transfer i always used the toner-transfer-method. Simple fast and DIY-able.
Then as etching solution i suggest the regenerative and stable Copperchloride + Muriatic acid.

If you want you also can make a small plastic-box for your project.

See? from start to end, such project may be a bit more complex than they seem in the first place. But if you break them down and try to master every step as individual step and process, you can do it quite simple (but with some time involved).
