because they are completely ridiculous and show how "evil" and intolerant Christianity really is. Like seriously, who thinks that it's right to kill a disobedient child.... People can go ahead and say that its from the old testament but its still the bible.

Really? The bible is outdated? Then why do you believe in it if it was the belief of a couple thousand years ago... By the way, it says disobedient children SHALL SURELY be put to death. Same thing with the gays. SHALL SURELY is a command. The last one is saying that people will go to hell if they don't believe in god. Doesn't sound very peaceful and loving to me.

also when i said it was written a couple thousand years ago i meant that Times have changed Before God used to be strict and offered barely any forgiveness. In the old testament God told Moses to hit the rock with his staff once to draw water. Moses was untrusting and hit it three times. Because of this Moses was not alowwed into the promise land with the rest of the Jews.

You just flawed your own religion. If god is suppose to be all knowing and transcendent then he wouldnt have changed, because he would know the right thing in the first place.

Anything can be understood out of context incorrectly, for instance you quote John, and then say: The last one is saying that people will go to hell if they don't believe in god. Doesn't sound very peaceful and loving to me.

But it doesn't say that at all. The place of burning was G'ehenna (a valley just south of Jerusalem) where they burned both garbage and criminals. It is being used as a figure for the utter destruction of one that can not learn love.

The others, well, I can show you why they are logical, but a forum is not a good place for such explanations....it would involve understanding the context of the books themselves, and you would need to see why these things were written and whether they were expected to be followed or not.

The idea of (as Paul also wrote) comparing spiritual things with spiritual (in order to learn) comes from Isa. 28:9-13 of which most, even those that claim Christianity, do not do, so they do not know.

Well do you have any evidence against christiananity anthing to prove it wrong. Lee Strobel a devote atheist went to prove god wrong do you want to know what happened? He became a strong christian because he found the bible was truthful in as many ways as possible and that Jesus was a real person and did excape from the tomb and ascended into heaven. If you want to know the name of his book its called a case for christ

Tell me this how was everything made how does your brain work the way it works how does your foot move when u take a step? These simple things are so complicated that no coincidence can cause them to accur. If man came from monkey why dont we have people who are extremely hairy but arent monkey nor human.

Just because you don't understand something doesn't make it not true. Thats like saying that since I dont know how a tv works, that there are gnomes inside it dancing around. We work the way we do because we evolved over millions of years from a simple organism, to one that is suited for our survival.

I understand your argument a while back I didnt beleive in God either. What you have to do is instead of looking at everything and not wanting to think there is a god, is just look at things with an open mind. You saying god doesnt exist because you havent searched for him is like me saying that elephants dont exist because I have never seen one or touched one.

I don't not want god to exist. I know god doesnt exist. And the open mind that you describe is just gullibility. I have an extremely open mind, in fact I just did a speech at school justifying some terrorist attacks. The thing is that for ideas of creation, I need more proof than just religious texts. And religion does not offer me it, so I go with science.

Alright this argument is getting no where. Im considering your answers and thinking heavily about them. But theres one thing that comes back to mind is the fact that you say you dont understand creationism. Can you please just tell me how you think earth was made, the sun was made the other planets where made and so on? What I want to know is if science can explain how the world was made then tell me from the very start. My friend is an atheist and says the world was made from a cell but that wont work for me. Why? Because I want to know what makes the cell, what makes the cell making process, what cause the process that causes the cell making process. Looking at it like that is like a scientist. You have to start from the beggining not from a later period. If you say the world was made by a cell I wont argue with that. But if you say it was made by a cell and thats just how its always been, thats where I have to argue. If you can explain this I will stop this argument right now and leave this forum for those who are interested in the topic.

Ok in very simplified terms, there was a infinitely dense piece of mass. That piece of mass then exploded, creating the universe. The universe expanded at an ever accelerating rate. All the matter from this piece of mass was really hot and the universe was very bright. The atoms eventually cooled down and started to group together. Some evidence of this is that, that bright light at the beginning of the universe, is now detectable as microwaves. And there is a very well spread sheet of microwaves detectable everywhere in the universe. When the atoms grouped together they formed stars. The stars were made of hydrogen. When they burned they produced, helium through nuclear reactions. Once the hydrogen supplies ran low, stars started to burn helium. Which produced lithium, and when that ran low, it burned lithium and so on. This went on until Iron. The gravity from the star isn't strong enough to go beyond iron because iron is too heavy of an element. Then, since there is no fuel, it creates a supernova. A huge explosion with enough energy to bash together all the atoms, to fill in the rest of the periodic table. These then created other stars and planets. Our planet, happened to have a atmosphere full of co2. Bacteria then spawned. Bacteria learned how to draw energy from the environment around them. They learned how to turn sunlight into energy. Photosynthesis. This allowed bacteria to grow extremely fast. This produced oxygen supplies in our atmosphere. This produced the Ozone layer, which protected the earth. This allowed bacteria to then evolve into different forms of life, and from there life flourished and evolved into what we have today. Evolution has been proven, using carbon dating, and fossil records. This is very simplified, as the technical aspects of it are from all different areas of science.

Well what happened before the big bang is not relevant, as time started at the big bang. It was a singularity, so space-time is infinitely curved. So time is not relevant, thus anything before the big bang is not relevant. Also know that the ball of mass had infinite density thus 0 volume, but that is not relevant since space is not relevant. Some physicists say that before the big bang there was a big crunch. And before that big crunch there was a universe just like ours. And that eventually our universe will go under a big crunch, which will then lead to a big bang. So time is infinite.

I think you get the point I was making: you two are bickering about something which you don't even place in the same universe as us, so as a scientist you've got nothing to base your position on. This is why you're (both) not getting very far.

Yes people generally like to have explanations for things they don't understand, even if they are baseless. There aren't too many who are happy to not know and not be bothered by it. And there's not that may people who spend their life trying to find out about things they don't understand... L

That is where you are wrong research has been down on religions and take the book of morman for example. No place no people or anything have been found mentioned in the book of morman. this has been done on other religions also and has come up with the same results. But for christiananity the bible mentions actual places that are actually there today and you could go visit.

I never said they couldn't but take the flying shpaggeti monster for example. I don't beleive he exists. And why dont I? Because sphagetti and intoxications our from the world. And that concept was made simply to fight the way science was taught and to make fun of the bible.

And the concept of religion was made to explain something that the science of the day couldn't. With todays science we can have a LOT better explanations of the universe, based on equations, not stories.

You've trivially misread that first quote of yours. "Smite" doesn't mean disobey, it means to "kill or seriously injure" (think "mayhem"). Ex. 21:15 is saying that murder or attempted murder of a parent is a captial crime. What do you think?

I think that's a fair view of it. It's not likely talking about a little kid swatting his dad out of frustration. I don't even think it's about the rebellious teen that gets into an "unfriendly" wrestling match with their mom. More along the lines of attempted patricide or matricide. Think about grown children (in their 40's and 50's) who have a dependant aging parent. If that child steals from their elderly widowed mother to feed their drug habit , and aussalts her when she complains.... If they beat their bedridden father because he soiled the bed.... If they keep the parent alive (locked in a basement, with little food and no medical treatment), just to collect their social security check.... THey have smitten their parents and deserve to die. Part of understanding scripture is understanding immediate context (as well as cultural/historical context). Also, it's important to understand a given scripture in view of other scriptural principles. Other related scriptures may clarify, or even modify the first, making it more understandable- and usually more reasonable/rational.
