Frequency of Laser Tag guns Answered

Does anyone know if Laser tag guns use infared LED's emitting at a certain frequency, If so what frequency/range of frequency

I think it's just standard IR, not sure if it's modulated or not. Just test it by pointing an IR LED at one of the sensors andsee if it activates.

. It is probably modulated so the receiver can ignore ambient IR. . If it is modulated, it is probably pulsed - much simpler than AM.

What could I use to pick up the frequency of the pulsing IR light?

. Not sure. Maybe clip a 'scope or freq meter to the output of the transmitter (input of LED)?

Could I use a ir reciving diode and hook it up to a recorder of some sore then process the signal by computer e.g acid xpress

. I dunno. Maybe one of the ppl with more experience can help you out. Sounds like it should be possible, but a rather Goldbergian way of doing it.
