Getting into a password protected Samsung Computer? Answered

My brother died in February. I have his relatively new Samsung laptop but I can't get into it because I don't know his password. The first screen that comes up is his name, his email address, and then it asks for a password. I tried the directions for Windows XP system but nothing happened when I held the F8 key so maybe his operating system is not Windows XP but Vista or something else. Can you help?

Best option is to take it back to the store where it was purchased, and ask them for help.

Second-best option, take it to another authorised dealer and ask them.

In both cases, be prepared to provide photographic ID, and documentary evidence that you are the new owner.

For me it is pretty simple (sorry):

Suspicious topic, unknown user with no history and no profile at all.

Means I can only assume things and in such cases I always assume the worst case.

I won't give any advise on gaining access to stolen equippment.

Ok, must not be the case here - but how can anyone know for sure?....

Just a thought -- It might be stuck in a sleep or suspend mode with a program running. To force a reboot press and hold down the power button for at least 5 seconds.

AND you might want to fill in your profile a little. We have a spammer who's profiles are blank. For all I know your going to push a spam answer next and this is not a real question.

So what operating system is it running? Because if its "relatively new" it would not be XP. Also I don't know of any system that has a user name and an email address in the log on process.
