Going to Singapore for 6 days Answered

So yeah guys, I'm going to go to Singapore for six days. Chances are I'm gonna get my hands on a computer with internet access one way or another, but reception might be shoddy. Chances are I'll still reply to comments, PMs and stuff, but if I don't I'm sorry. Wish me a good trip!

Ooh. I love Singapore. It's comparatively clean and safe. The laws are a bit strict, but that's easy enough to get over. I like to go out at night and hit the food-vendor booths. I think I gained like 5 pounds last time I was there. And even though I'm not really a shopper, it was neat to go out and bargain for all the stuff we never see in the US.

Haha, yeah. The laws are actually very strict, if you eat a bubble gum in public you go to jail for a day =( ,(Lousy Singaporean politicians....),

So true! I bought a lot of neat stuff, and it's only my second day! The GodFather II PS3 game was on sale for only 40 Singapore dollars!

It also used to be a $500 fine if you failed to flush a public toilet. There was also a VERY steep fine for spitting on the street. My friend liked to joke that it was a "fine" city.

Dang, $500 for not flushing a toilet? The government's just looking for ways to make extremely easy money...

I'm not sure it's still that way. It's been 10 years since I was there. But they also used to have the death penalty for carrying even a small amount of drugs. And they caned an American kid for spraying grafitti (which I thought was funny)! So I think they're just a little over enthusiastic about enforcing their laws. But hey, it definitely rounds out the countries budget too.

Still... Death penalty? Well, even though (IMO) that's going kinda far, it's still got some sense in it. And Lol, seriously? I pity dat American foo.

Yeah, it really cuts down on the drug related problems in the country, but I'm pretty sure they weren't as harsh with grass.

No country is that harsh with grass to begin with...

The US used to be pretty harsh. There were people going away for YEARS for posession of 1 or 2 joints! Now it's relaxed a bit, but trafficking in it is still punished pretty heavily.

Wow, years? You can be put out for tens of years for possession of joints here in Indonesia. Except for the island of Batam, the Indonesian junkie headquarters =P

I've been to Batam, and around the Irian Papua border, and I've been to the Malay side of Borneo. Never was involved with drugs there though. Is it real strict in Bali too?

It's not that strict in Bali, Bali's probably the second most non-strict island in Indonesia. But in all seriousness, if Batam is, say, 80% lax, then Bali is only 50-or-so %.

how would an officer or official know if you didnt flush your toilet?

A lot of places had restroom attendants. Maybe they check after the toilet is used..??

then they wonder who used what toilet?

now they just use closeup cameras (J / K !).

Lol, made me laugh. And what gives you the right to tell me what to do? =P

Jk, thanks for commenting!

And what gives you the right to tell me what to do? =P

Because I'm me.

Any time.

Because I'm me.

Your point being? I'm like, 100x more awesome than you are. Kiteman even subscribed to me. (Though it might just be his son Roger-X that accidentally snucked in to his account and subscribed to me using it... 'Cause you know.... Kids dig the weapons!)

Any time.

=) Yayz

I dont see "Kiteman" in your subscription list, nor do I see rogerX. However, goodhart subbed you.

Silly DJ, Kiteman is there. And yes, GoodHart did subscribe to me.

There's more than one reason to subscribe to a member...

HA! In my dreams! Wait...Yea, that sounds right.

interesting....my firewall flagged that as a spyware site?

im sure the tinyurlsite is fine, its just that it redirects so your firefall didnt like that

It was a link to "Let me google that for you." He was implying that you should use the huge web of information at your disposal (the internet) to try and figure it out before wasting someone's time asking. Try maps.google.com

Curious. (Yet again, not trying to sound rude) Wouldn't be easier to reply "Oh, Singapore is in where ever." Instead of going to "Let me google that for you" or whatever, and doing whatever you need to do to type for me and everything?

The main reason why I don't search for the answer is because the random people on the internet I don't trust as much as say, you or kiteman, or Caitlensdad(sp?)

I appreciate being compared to kiteman and the like, but I trust sources such as wikipedia and google maps more than I trust myself.

Your welcome.

but I trust sources such as wikipedia and google maps

I don't like google maps that much because if you zoom in or out, your suddenly not looking where you want to be looking at.

It keeps you centered, though. And if there's a blimp, that stays in the same place.

Huh. Cause when I used google maps to search for Singapore, there was a blip, and when I zoomed out, I couldn't find it. It just disappeared.

Short term, maybe. It's actually easier for me to type "http://lmgtfy.com/?q=*topic*" than writing out an answer. If you don't know the URL it's quicker short term, but worth it in the long term if it convinces someone to search their questions before asking.

One last time(Not trying to sound rude) If I Google "Where is Singapore", the page would be blank.
