Gold sluice questions?? Answered

So I am building a small prospecting/cleanup sluice but have no clue what angle to put it at once its built does it depend on the water speed or is it a certain amount of drop per foot of sluice type of thing?? I have no clue about this stuff so any help would be great!! No hurry we still have three feet of snow It will probably be october before I get to go out panning:( Thanks in advance!!

I suggest you look it up on line. There are many articles about using and building your own sluice. Suffice it to say there is no exact angle. The flow of water will dictate the angle and vise verse. So you'll have to find that magic mix on your own. Every water flow is different and every sluice is different. Just be sure to pan the tub as your dialing it in to see if more adjustments are needed.

Yah I guess ill try that... I'm a total rookie don't even have my pans yet!! So my idea was if I could make a good river sluice than I will only have to test pan when it doesn't really count and use my sluice for the actual collection of gold. That way the only panning I have to do is to clean up black sand and to test spots to sluice. Thanks for the help mpilchfamily and waterrocketexpert!!!

Even with a great sluice setup panning is still a very important aspect. You'll want to check you out wash every once in a whaile to ensure your not washing all your gold away.
