How To make a Robot that comes to you by pressing a button? Answered

Hi Guys,
I was wondering if anyone one out there could help me.
I have an idea for a house hold robotic drink dispenser using Arduino.
I want to create it so that when you press a control button it comes to your location without hitting walls and furniture. I was thinking using some form of IR transmitter but have no idea how to go about the tracking part.
If someone could help me with how I could go about it and the coding it would be awesome
Thanks

Get a dog, its a lot cheaper and the batteries don't need changing or charging.

Thanks

I already have a dog, unfortunately she won't be getting me an A for my engineering project.

I write with humor in mind, but it is based on fact. Do a search on youtube for "dog gets beer from fridge", I was surprised at how many there are. Good thing they don't like to drink the stuff.

As a student your expected to solve your own problems!

However think about:

How will the robot find you

How will it avoid anything in its way

How will it know it has reached you

How do micro mouse robots work (look it up)

Of course you will also need a mechanical platform that can do what you want so:

how will it move

How will it GET the drink

How will it avoid spillage

How will it store the drinks

just a few things to think about

and lastly what have others done in this area. there are lots of autonomous cars and robots used in industry how do they work?

At this stage I would assess if your asking very basic questions you probably don't have the time to gain the skills and knowledge you need to complete the project successfully.

My best guess is your not going to reply to any of the comments.

What have you got made already ? Frankly path tracking and collision avoidance is probably pushing the Arduino further than it can go.

There are robot golf bag caddies that follow you around the golf course.

Lets look at how the might work.

DRIVE: Two wheels can profide drive and steering while the third wheel swivels.

Direction: An AM transmitter puts out a low intensity carrier wave that the golfer carries in his belt in the back. There are two antennas on the robot... If the right antenna trceives the stronger signal at its detector it drives the opposit left wheel a little faster... The method works well on a grass lot for a house robot you will need to add wall and furniture avodance sensors like ultrasonic ranging modules or IR light,,
