Most wheelchairs use 2 motors and stop or slow 1 compared to the other for steering.

A single motor will require some kind of steering mechanism and will need a differential.

Easier to simply drive a single wheel if that is what you want to do it makes little difference to how the wheelchair operates.

Both iceng and Downunder 35m have good ideas, but what can the person using the wheelchair do.

Do they have the use of their hands?

If they do not have the use of their hands mechanical belt clutches would be useless to them.

Tell us about the user, what you have, and your skills.

Use two electric or mechanical belt clutches.

this gives direction control like riding a horse and you can back-up.
