How do I reinstall or repair Internet Explorer 8 in Windows Vista? Answered

I don't like this machine, it has a sick feeling to it...
IE8.0.6001.19019 will start, then close before I can get hold of any buttons - it's broken.
I can't install IE8 from Microsoft because it decides the broken version is newer.
Firefox works OK, but I don't like IE being non-functional.
32bit Vista home.
-Funny thing: it works on one login, but not the other two.

I would say your best bet is to uninstall and then reinstall.

To uninstall IE8 in Vista:
1. Click Start, then Control Panel.
2. Click Uninstall a Program under the Programs category.
3. In the Tasks pane, click View installed updates.
4. In the list of installed updates, double-click Windows Internet Explorer 8.
5. In the Uninstall an update dialog box, click Yes.
6. Restart your computer.

To reinstall IE8 in Vista:

1.  Download and Install from here.

Download and Install the Internet Explorer 9 Release Candidate from here.

I'd prefer not to, but that's my pending option (unless I get a better answer, which I probably won't)

IE9 is almost out - You can play with the Release Candidate, which works OK for me.  You could give that a try.

Alternatively, roll back to a restore point before the trouble started.

Yes I thought about that, but "beta" sends some kind of creeps down my spine...

I installed Firefox, I want to repair IE (for the benefit of just having it fixed).

Option 1: Install Firefox.
Option 2: Install Chrome.
