Start with inexpensive materials. Copper wire, non-precious stones. That way, what you create can (to some degree) be considered "throw-away", and so one valid worry (waste of costly materials) won't be quite so much of a problem.

ps> by throw-away, I don't literally mean that you should throw copper away. It can be recycled...

its wire mess with it till you get it down its not going to bite you and you wont bust the bank if you mess up . AS a shoe once said "JUST DO IT"

So, I shaped and polished the local rock and then wrapped it using brass square and half-round wire.

Took 6 hrs over 5 weeks to wire wrap as my first try.

You've probably indulged in some negative self-talk with the result that you're now scared that its going to be a big mess and people will laugh. Getting something perfect usually doesn't happen, there's always some little irk not to our liking, however don't cut off your ear in frustration like others have done. :)

Best anti-block therapy is to cut a length of wire and using a needle nose pliers, bend your first name in a continuous cursive script like we did when learning to write so many years ago.

Just do something, anything. It probably won't be the best at first but the longer you wait the more likely you never start. Don't get addicted to the brain crack of building up something you've never done in your head until your initial results can never live up to your unrealistic expectations for your self. Ze says it best in the link above.

Play with bits of wire - until you get a feel for it and how it works.

throw away what you play with so it doesn't matter
