How do you block porn from appearing on your Mac? Answered

I need to block all porn contents from my Mac. My young friend uses the computer and I notice that when she is logging out, she clicks out of porn sites those are opened and tells me she doesn't know how they got there. The question I have is can porn sites pop out of nowhere and show their contents out of the blue? Please help and excuse my ignorance in this. Thank you.

I am of the mind that is "if you can get it for free why pay for it.
That being said It's called opendns.com
My son put me on to it 3 or 4 yrs ago and have been using it ever since.
Its a web site that monitors you IP address not your computer. That means it will watch your whole local network.
Basically what it does is All the computers hooked up to your home network be it wired or wireless will be protected. That also means if your friend comes in with his computer wired or wireless Windows Mac or Linux and he logs into your system his computer is also protected. Don't worry once he's gone his computer is back to what it was before.
What you will need is a router. that is the best place to do your configuring other wise the computer you did the configuring on will have to be on all the time. I would hope most people already have one between their modem and their system. Most routers come with built in firewalls and that is what protects you from the outside known as WWW. It is on by default usually.
Opendns just adds that extra layer of protection.
I am not going into detail on how to set it up. The website will help you through that part.
I love it because I have grand kids that still haven't been able to crack it. Some know I have it but can't by pass it. My boys both have it on their system too.
Opendns will block not only block porn sites but will also block instant messaging, social network sites, like FB and Myspace, advertizing but not all. you will see once your setup. It just needs a little tweaking to your tastes.
Hope that helps.
BTW an after thought. you might be able to restrict web sites with your router as well. I have seen that function in my explorations of my routers recently.

You need some sort of mac-suitable filtering software - links to undesirable sites of many kinds can be disguised in many ways, but decent filtering software recognises most of them, and others can be added by the user.

If you are "illiterate" in these matters, contact a professional - you will have to pay, but you get what you need.

It is possible to have it pop automatically if you have adware or a virus. Get an antivirus program to scan your computer (yes, macs do get viruses). Also, covenant eyes has a good blocker. They do have a monthly fee, but it is worth it.

There can be lot of advertising of this kind on some torrent search engines and probably some other such pages can be foud too, where some accidental click can open a page. But hardly many of them just open by themselves. How many have you seen there?

Maybe the young person needs some honest info on human sexuality. If the resonable info is blocked out from her reach, then she goes for what she can get, which is almost definately pornographic and worse. We all have gone through that phase few times in different ages.

And third possibility, someone is cyberbullying her and sending her the links. I think it is impossible to distinguish in the beginning between being ashamed of own curiosity or ashamed of being harassed by someone else.

A caring and not condemning talk could help sort this out, but of course gaining the trust for it is hard.

Even if you could find a way to block all porn on your computer, it is not a solution to anything real.
