How to calculate torque required for transport motor? Answered

I'm planning on making my own Segway. My biggest design problem right now is my motors. I need to find the torque needed to move them. I'm thinking an equation like this would use the radius of the wheels, the mass of the rider, etc. How do I find the torque needed to move this Segway? Bonus points if you can point me to a place to get one of these motors. I don't want to spend more than $20 each for the 2 motors. Thanks.


How much can you spend on gyroscopes, control systems and batteries?


I'm using wii motion plus, arduino, and haven't chosen batteries yet. So costs on these are zero because I already have them.

I don't know what you mean by power-control, but gyroscopes are in the wii motion plus.

Ah, nice idea to use the wii. The power-control is what handles the electricity to the motors; you need to silicon semiconductors, they cost money.


I'm going to use Arduino Motor Shield to control the motors.

There are 746 watts to the hp

Your not going to get that for $20!!

Apparently to buy the parts off the shelf you looking at about half the cost of buying a Segway so i would start saving or make a model.
