Mix together a tea spoon of sugar and a tea spoon of common Borax.

Add a fer drops of water, enough to make the mix damp.

Place this under a tin lid, with enough space between lid and ground for ant to get in, close to the ants path ideally outside. make sure kids and pets can't get at it.

Ants will feed off this mixture and take it back to the nest to feed larvae - it will kill them and the nest over the next 24 hours, If still ants and no bate repeat until no more ants.

Invite them to move into a farm. Once they are all in seal the door.

Could you train them to hunt down cockroaches?
Could be a great business offering a nature based pest control.

For those (cockroaches) you need a special predator. Several gecko's living under your fridge would work nicely. When I lived in Hawaii we had them all over in the house as they came and went as they wanted, and we had relatively few bugs. They did a good job.

grease ants (the little brown ants ~1-2mm long) can be encouraged to avoid your kitchen using Boric Acid, a white powder that's usually sprayed into floor cracks and joints where they enter. Afaik, it is relatively harmless for humans, dogs, and cats, although if you have a toddler or baby you should ask your doctor first.

Carpenter ants are a bit more problematic, and their presence usually indicates rotting wood in the structure. For those, it's best to find out where they live and replace the wood they've built their nest into. Stronger insecticides are usually needed for that job. Back in the day it was Malathion, but I don't think you can get that any more.

I have an interesting technique that pours red, green or white colored fine sand into the ant holes.

This sand goes flows almost like water and fills most chambers.. As ants clear a grain ten grains take its place... In a few applications the nest is full and useless..

This only works dry areas like walk ways and dry soil... Plus I don't think the coloring chemicals are ant healthy.. You can get the sand at hobby stores for artwork...

The best way to get rid of ants is use an ant trap. The worker ants (for the queen ant) will think the poison is food and bring it back to the colony poisoning every ant and the queen, thus getting rid of a colony or multiple colonies. No queen...no ants.

Google is your friend, if that is not enough check the links on the right or consult the right person in your favourite hardware store.
