How to merge 2 images together without using photoshop? Answered

I want to know how people merge 2 images together, but most people tell me to use photoshop, which I'd rather not shell money out for.  Is there any other way to merge 2 images together?

EDIT- so apparently people are thinking I want to merge 2 images together into some mumbo jumbo sh*t.  No.  THIS IS WHAT I WANT:

irfan view is the best program for what you want to do. download and install it from here

after installing open irfanview go to IMAGE option and from the dropdown menu select CREATE PANORAMA IMAGE then you can add all the images you want togeather, specify vertical or horizontal...
rest the programme does it for you...

http://makephotogallery.net is the tool you want.
It's a free online tool to combine multiple images into one image.

Use GIMP, it's free. After you download it, here's how to do it:
  • Go to file, then open up one of the images you want to use.
  • Go to file, and click "open as layers". Choose the next picture you want.
  • Look at the right sub-window, there should be two pictures now. One should be called "background". Click on the picture that doesn't say "background". Then, change the opacity (it's the slider above the picture list).
And there you have it! Here's an example picture. Hopefully this is what you were asking.

There are a host of free "photoshop" type programs. Paint_dot_net and gimp are two that comes to mind. I prefer Paint.Net
